When a relationships ends, there is the chance that it will lead to one experiencing a lot of emotional pain. There is also the chance that one will be quiet happy with what has happened and although there may be a mild sense of loss for example, they will soon settle down and be on their way. It will depend on numerous factors as to how one feels when they experience the end of a relationship. Just because their relationship has finished, it doesn’t mean that it hadn’t finished a long time ago. Different Reasons

As a confident woman I want to state that being confident does not stop fearfulness or the feelings of being overwhelmed. In my experience what my self-confidence allows me to do is press forward regardless, always with my desired outcome in mind. So even if there is a shadow of a doubt, even if there is some internal chatter willing me to take the easy road and not do anything challenging, I argue my corner and just do it with a smile! Confidence – Accepting that you don’t always know what’s going to happen in a given situation but being focused on the best possible outcome.
If you are like most women, you are trying to keep your head above water in this speed- crazed world, stretched too thin on your time and juggling ten projects at a time. Sound familiar! My best friend Tina and myself have a great joke and we always state wenconsider ourselves “wonder women” and ...
In recent times, people have become more aware of how powerful their thoughts are and while the power of one’s thoughts is nothing new, it was not something that was as well known in the past. And the reason more people are aware of the power of their thoughts is partly down to the internet. The internet has made information a lot easier to attain and people no longer need to be part of a certain society or to take part in formal education in order to educate themselves. What was classed as hidden knowledge or a ‘secret’ at one point in time is now widely available on the internet.
There are some families in the world that are filled with love and connection. These families’ work together, to support and assist each other and not because they have to; but because they want to. To them, family means much more than just a word or the DNA that may connect them to each other. Here, there is no talk or suggestion of obligations and conditions needing to be fulfilled; what is done is done out of love and only love. Pure Fantasy
The Economy and how it has affected the Ego Being weighed down by self-doubt can be crippling. You know you can, you know you should but, somehow you just can’t bring yourself to move. You get comfortable in the stuck mode, you know this is not good but it gets extremely difficult when you feel like your whole world is falling apart right before your eyes. When faced with another mountain of the feelings of being incapable continues, remember these are only thoughts. It is
Questions such as: what does it take to keep a woman happy and what does it take to please a man, have been around for many years. And sometimes people come up with answers and sometimes people give up trying to find answers. The great psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud even pondered this question when he said - ‘’The great question that has never been answered, and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is 'What does a woman want?'’
A reader recently wrote and asked me this question: "How can a person have high self esteem when living with the negative energy of a partner? How can one keep oneself strong or respond differently?" n n My response documents 3 key steps to take that we can all use to help improve any dysfunctional interactions. Firstly I would say that if there is any abusive or violent nature to your situation then you must seek professional help - either as a couple or at least just for yo
There is nothing like a good victim story to get people’s attention. The media routinely covers a certain event or situation where one person or a group of people are labelled as victims. And based on what happens in these situations, it is often very difficult to disagree with the description. Sometimes these stories relate to what the average guy on the street has done and at other times, it can be about what a person of authority has done. So governmental figures, people of wealth and status and other socially elevated individuals.
There are some emotions that are seen as ‘bad’ or ‘negative’ and while this might be the case if they are shown in certain situations, this is not going to apply in others. Every emotion has purpose and a reason for appearing; this not to say that one should act upon every emotion that arises though. There will be times when how one feels has nothing to do with what is taking place. During these moments, it will be necessary to hold the emotional experience. And therefore not to express how they feel and not to repress how they feel either.
Just because one is with someone who looks different to the person they were in a relationship with before, it doesn’t mean that their experience is going to be any different. And if ones last experience was generally healthy and functional, this is not going to be something that one is going to complain about. However, if the relationship they are now in reflects their past relationship and this was a relationship that was unhealthy and dysfunctional, then this is going to be incredibly frustrating to say the least.
There are all kinds of ideas in the world as to how a relationship should be. These ideas are often shaped by popular culture, from influences such as Disney or Hollywood films. And by taking on board these perspectives, some people can come to expect relationships to be easy and straight forward. And once this outlook has taken root in one’s mind, it will often define ones relational behaviour. Through this, one is likely to have a low tolerance for relationships that are not effortless and require work or commitment.
The word success is widely used in today’s world and it is something that is sought after by many people. People from all backgrounds and walks of life are driven to attain success. And through the media and other means, we are constantly exposed to people who are successful in certain areas. Recent creations such as Twitter and Facebook have allowed people to get closer to public figures who have achieved success. So the divide between the two, has now become a lot smaller.
There is how one is spoken to by others, and then there is how one speaks to themselves. And what is taking place internally can often be known through what is taking place exte ally. This means that how one allows other people to talk to them is often a reflection of how they talk to themselves. If it is any worse, one might put an end to it or gradually come to accept it.
Is low self-esteem is holding you back from actively living or pursuing the life you deserve to live? If so, then you can learn to rebuild your self-confidence and self-esteem by practicing the use of positive affirmations on a daily basis. Begin to experience the happiness and contentment that you have been missing in your life. When you constantly repeat negative, derogatory statements about yourself either to yourself or out loud, they can easily bring you down and steal the joy right out of you.
For some people in this world, doing what they love is a normal part of life. And for others this is nothing more than an idea that sounds good and is far from there day to day experience. To do what ones loves and enjoys might have not even been considered by this person. Life can be seen as something to be endured and faced and not something to be enjoyed or embraced. Perhaps one feels that they are not good at anything or don't have any special gifts. And end up going through the motions in life and spending their time doing what brings neither happiness nor fulfilment.
This article has the description abused children and therefore gives the impression that it is going to be all about children. However, this will be about adults who were abused as children and as a result of this now have a real challenge with boundaries. When it comes to child abuse, there are many problems that can and are created. And boundaries problems can often be a consequence of abuse.
Repression, as I see it, is denying a situation of any expression or exposure, until it has gone from our awareness or rarely takes up too much of our attention.
Ah, the gentle pitter-patter of rain upon the roof of a mobile home! The sound can be so soothing that it lulls you to sleep. Who needs an expensive ambient sound machine? This is nature’s own. Just lie back, secure in your comfy nest of bed and blankets and let Mother Nature sing her watery lullaby. You haven’t a care in the world. You’re cuddling Lethe. All is well. Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Huh? What’s that? Is it time to get up already? No. It’s still dark, very dark, and
In the area of self development and recovery the term co-dependency have been used for many years. And this generally describes someone who is not interdependent or independent; they are completely dependent on others or on certain substances. This is something that can relate to every need that one can have. From the need to be: emotionally, physically and financially supported. There fulfilment is then only possible through relying on someone or something.
While the ideal is for someone to live their truth, this is not always possible. And one reason why this is not possible is when they have a fear of being abandoned. Their choices and decisions in life are then going to be defined by this fear and what is actually right for them is going to be overlooked. So the need is going to be there, but in most cases, this will be as far as it goes. One is then going to be used to ignoring their own needs and wants, and fulfilling the wants and needs of other people.
Everyone knows that having a low self esteem is bad and thus set out to improve their self confidence. However, most may not fully understand why they have low self confidence, and simply try to build up their self confidence because they think that it will make them happier. nnnOf course, having strong self confidence will probably make you happier and more satisfied with yourself and your life. Below, we will point out more of the benefits that improving your self confidenc
There's a fascinating relationship among Twitter, your brain and the world. Billions of tweets, texts, posts, emails, and phone calls have one thing in common: they're neural signals in the global brain. We've already seen how quickly and profoundly social networks have altered the global brain. Each tiny tweet, at a larger level, is shaping the next global identity, a “we” that everyone can have a powerful voice in.
In today’s world, there is far less pressure on men and women to conform to certain roles, and this has made it easier for them to be themselves. However, change doesn’t happen ove ight, and while so much has been archived, there is still work to be done. In the past, men had to be ‘strong’ at all times, and if they showed their vulnerability, they would be seen as ‘weak’. Women, on the other hand, were allowed to show their vulnerability, but it wasn’t acceptable for them to be seen as ‘strong’. Appearances
There are many fears that human beings can have and some of these are classed as real and parts of one’s ability to survive and others are seen as self made and have very little to do with ones survival. And the fear of rejection is often classed as a fear that is irrational and not based in reality. In most cases as an adult, it is unlikely that anything too harmful is going to happen if one is rejected. One’s life is not likely to come to an end and they will live for another day.
Over the past 12 years, as I have been coaching more than 600 people, I’ve discovered that there are 4 fundamental Powers that lead to a fulfilling, balanced life. When you have fully developed all of these powers, you’ll have the greatest opportunity to experience life as joyful, free and meaningful. However, fear and self-doubt will, to varying degrees, block your ability to attain mastery of your 4 powers. Confusion, frustration, boredom, and feeling stuck are signals that one or more of your Powers needs attention.
If one is into self-development, they may have heard about how important it is for them to live their own life and not to please other people. As if they were to do what they can to please others, it is going to stop them from being able to fulfil their own needs. Therefore, instead of their life being a reflection of their true-self, it will end up being a reflection of their false-self. And this false-self will be made up of who other people want them to be and who they think they want them to be. A Half-Life
I talked the other day about increasing metabolism to get faster caloric burn. What I suggested was eating more meals per day (5 to 6) but smaller quantities of food. This has been proven to work. I have even known people to sneak in an extra meal by getting up around 3 in the morning to have a ...
Abusive behaviour can include all that makes one feel compromised, undermined and taken advantage of. It can be in the relationships one has with: friends, family, colleagues and in intimate relationships. The type of environment it is, or whether one is male or female, the race or the religion that one has will not make a different. This is something that can affect people of all backgrounds and walks of life. Two Types
After hearing about this film through a friend, I thought it sounded similar to a number of other films that have been released in recent years. The films Push and Jumper came to mind. Now that I have seen the film I believe that it is a metaphor for intention and how intention is what shapes life. It is also about abuse and the consequences that abuse can have. Something it also demonstrates is that in order to have power, one must also exercise responsibility. And perhaps it shows what humane potential is; albeit in an exaggerated form.
The fact that the Westgate Hall in Canterbury is under threat, is not news to me. I have known this to be the case for over 6 months or more, and I will admit that I didn’t think much of it at first. So, you may be wondering at this point, what has made me finally take notice and reflect on the potential consequences this could have for me and of course, many others in the area.
My current outlook to healing and processing is that, along with the individual's willingness to process their past, the other important element to releasing our patterns is to be assisted by someone who has achieved a certain level of presence. And that the processing (healing) technique alone is always secondary to the presence of the person assisting. This for me comes back to the saying ''we can't give what we haven't got''.
For years I’ve thought that our lives—what we do, think, feel, and perceive—were the direct result of our beliefs and our conditionings. When I looked at the lives and beliefs of over 13,000 clients, I noticed a very close correlation. In the past few weeks I’ve had reason to rethink that conclusion. I’ve identified a couple of steps between beliefs and how we live our lives, so I no longer think there is a direct connection.
It is not uncommon for someone to be told that they should just forgive and forget and simply move on from someone who has wronged them. This can seem to be the most logical thing that one can do; to put it behind them and carry on with their life. One could be told that they are bigger than what has taken place or that holding onto to what happened will be detrimental to their health and wellbeing. So one might then feel pressured to move on, or at least make other people believe they have moved on to keep them happy.
Because many emotions are caused by beliefs, getting rid of the relevant beliefs can frequently eradicate negative emotions. For example, the belief that “Dogs are dangerous” will result in an emotion of fear when confronting a dog. The belief “People can't be trusted” will result in a feeling of suspicion around people. When the beliefs are eliminated, the emotions usually will be also. There are, however, emotions in adults that appear to be caused by something in addition to beliefs. Getting rid of beliefs sometimes is not enough.
Codependence is a new word that became popular in the 1980's. It has become a buzzword and important for you to understand in becoming the person you want to be. In less aware times codependence was considered normal. To be good, perfect, compliant, agreeable, giving, and selfless was rewarded and was the unconscious standard with which many people, especially women were conditioned. Now we are understanding that there is a fine line between where being selfless and taking care of others crosses over to becoming a disease similar to having a physical addiction.
For many years I have been focusing on and asking myself about my own identity. Is the way we see ourselves the true expression of who we really are or is it the result of something else. And will we be comfortable with the same Identity our whole lives. Most of us have heard how the way we perceive ourselves has a direct effect on the kind of life we will create and the kind of life we will settle for. The question that arises for me is, how we come to see ourselves the way we do and if the way we see ourselves doesn't fit who we truly are, then how can we change our perception.
Smell the End to Your PTSD Hypnotherapeutic Olfactory Conditioning Who knew when I anchored the rose-water scent of a client's favorite teacher in his mind to feelings of security and high self-esteem that I was employing "Hypnotherapeutic Olfactory Conditioning" (otherwise known as HOC) ? The olfactory glands are physically close to parts of the brain that store memories and process emotions. "The amygdala, in particular, plays an important role both in the long-term, unconscious storage of memories of fear and in the emotional processing of olfactory stimuli" (Otto, 2000).
IFS recognizes that our psyches are made up of different parts, sometimes called subpersonalities. You can think of them as little people inside us. Each has its own perspective, feelings, memories, goals, and motivations. For example, one part of you might be trying to lose weight and another part might want to eat whatever you want. We all have parts like the inner critic, the abandoned child, the pleaser, the angry part, and the loving caretaker. IFS has discovered that every part has a positive intent for you, no matter how problematic it might be.
While one can have grown into an adult and therefore left their childhood behind them, it doesn’t mean that they have completely moved on from those early years. Ones childhood influences them in ways that are obvious and in ways that are more or less oblivious. It is a time that plays a massive role in who one will become; either as a direct result of what happened or through or through one using what happened as a catalyst to be more. In one way or another, these years are fundamental and cannot be overlooked.
Most people have heard the saying ‘’curiosity killed the cat’’ and this has lead to all kinds of meanings being constructed. For some people it will have been interpreted to mean that being curious is dangerous and others may simply dismiss it as just an old saying. But regardless of this saying, curiosity is not always seen in a positive light. In some cases, it is seen as intrusive. And it is then vital that one avoids being curious; as a way to avoid unpleasant consequences. The Variations
This is something that can affect someone in many ways and as a result of many things. Some losses can simply be ignored and forgotten about and then there are others can are harder to forget. One can also lose something and never forget the loss; regardless of how much times goes by or what else happens in their life. What will often define the impact that a loss has is how emotionally attached one was.
The title of this article might seem out of place and even slightly unnecessary. You might be wondering how a word of such meaning, can be used to describe something as normal as responsibility. There might also be the chance of your thoughts being along the same lines as what I am about to discuss here. This will be a psychological perspective on responsibility. The role the ego mind plays in all of this and then as a result of this, how it filters out into our every day life and society. How it forms the way we look at every aspect of our life.
by Lynda Hudson Crown House Publishing Reviewed by Bryan M. Knight, MSW PhD. Wow. What a rich compendium of scripts for both novice and seasoned professional. Lynda Hudson provides such a valuable resource that it deserves to become a classic guide for the hypnotherapist who wonders what to say to help a client challenged with e.g., tics, illness, childbirth, unwanted habits, business fears, social anxiety, sports performance, or travel toilet phobia Those are just a few of the subjects the author tackles so adroitly.
The other day I was driving to a speaking engagement. As I am driving, a small crack on my window (which I have ignored for a year!) started to crack and spread before my eyes. As I went over every bump, the windshield crack started to get longer and longer. Getting out of the car at a rest ...
The definition of what it means to be attractive is not always the same for one person as it is for another. There are general things that are recognised as being attractive in women and attractive in a man. Science often comes up with what these qualities are. However, what is found to be the absolute truth by scientists does not always match up with reality and the real world. When it comes to women for example; a certain waist-to-hip ratio is talked about as being what is attractive to a man. And for women; broad shoulders are often mentioned as being attractive.
When someone experiences some kind of abuse in their adult relationships, there is often the chance that they will identify with one of two outlooks. They can either see that this abuse is a reflection of what took place during their childhood or they can come to the conclusion that their childhood was fine and that it has nothing to do with it. In the first example, it is more or less perfectly clear and there is no doubt whatsoever about where this abuse was first experienced. And as they are certain about it, they can take the steps to deal with that is taking place.
There are many problems in today’s world and one problem is the much talked about entitlement mentality. And this is a mentality that is seen amongst people of all ages and backgrounds. Two people who have this mentality could be observed and what they believe they are entitled to may vary. And this is because the entitlement mentality exists on a spectrum and therefore different people are going to believe that they are entitled to different things.
Do you find yourself feeling like you “deserve” the guilt you are harboring inside of you? Are you more accepting of others’ mistakes than you are of your own? Do you feel like you are carrying a tremendous weight around with you because of being consumed by guilt? Holding on to guilt is never a healthy emotion to carry around and can lead to a great amount of inner turmoil until it is properly released. Common Causes of Guilt
While someone can be by themselves, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they will feel lonely. To be on their own and away from others could be something that they enjoy; with one feeling energised by it. However, there are other people who can be by themselves and this makes them feel incredibly lonely. In this case, they are unable to enjoy their own company and the experience makes them feel cut off and isolated from other people.
