We rightly recognise that memory is not the same as a living experience. Yet, the power of memory holds a key for those who wish to undertake spiritual development. We see this in the context of religious and spiritual pursuits that rely on the power of memory in some form to renew and actualise experiences. The simplest process is to recall and reflect on the peak spiritual experiences that one has had. It may help to visualise the circumstances as one recalls the memory.

Here are two true stories of people letting go of their prophetic abilities. Once there was a woman in her twenties and was very into her new life as a wife and a new mother. Then her husband went off to Vietnam. She would worry about him constantly and then she began to have prophetic dreams. She would wake up in the middle of the night usually about 3AM with dreams of being in the jungles of Vietnam. She could hear the helicopters overhead and could feel the unbearable heat in the jungle. And she had many other prophetic dreams that all came true.
We generally tend to believe that if we focus intensely enough, if we undertake serious spiritual disciplines, we will achieve the goal of spiritual liberation or realisations that we may be seeking. There are no doubt many benefits from practicing spiritual disciplines, undertaking tapasya, and building the aspiration within the being. These steps can help to remove covering obstacles that would otherwise prevent or impede the development of the spiritual forces that need to manifest within us to effectuate the changes for which we aspire.
We have a vision. We get inspired. We have a near death experience. We come back from the spiritual experience and we are sure it is meant to change our lives, as we suddenly have a whole new vista open up before us, a realm of truth, beauty, harmony, light. Then we come back into our normal exte al state of consciousness, still carrying some lingering memory of the experience, but now confronting all the normal day to day activities, relationships, difficulties and opportunities.
Our surface awareness is basically the ‘tip of the iceberg’. Most of what takes place in our being occurs outside of the range of our active exte al perception of the senses and mental awareness. Even the interactions with the exte al reality we experience represent only a small fraction of the input we are receiving from that exte al reality.

For us to have a Guru in our life, we must make every effort to find him; otherwise life will pass by whilst we keep waiting for him to come into our life. When you wholeheartedly set out on your quest of finding a Guru, Nature will help you in bringing about positive evidence together in securing a teacher. But before searching for a Guru, decide on the purpose of having a Guru, what to look for from a Guru and what is our end goal in securing a Guru? A GururnGuru, also know
People frequently seek for a very specific, directed form of practice which will provide liberation and spiritual perfection. They ask ‘what is the best form of practice’? Sri Aurobindo takes a much more flexible approach which is based on the need and development of the individual practitioner, the unique capacities that seeker brings to the process at a particular point in time, and the unique challenges a particular individual must face given their pre-existing habits and formations.
In the context of the practice of yoga, purification is not the enforcement of some kind of moral code or precepts. This is a common perception based on religious tenets that have abounded through the ages that set forth a moral code and try to both control the actions of people and judge them based on their adherence to that moral code. Purification in a yogic context is the creation of a calm, clear light of awareness in the being.
For much of human history, spirituality has been looked upon as a contradiction of an active life in the world. The anchorite in the desert, the renunciate, the Sannyasin, the monk or nun in the cloister are held up to us as the examples of dedication to spiritual growth and purpose. All of these examples imply that if one is caught up in the world’s affairs, if one acts in a full and rich life in the world, that there is little hope for true spiritual progress.
Spirituality is about attaining a unique awareness. Spiritual growth happens when one gains higher consciousness or awareness of his Self which is beyond the awareness of the five senses and the mind-ego-intellect. For the ones who want to grow in a higher spiritual realm and be spiritually rich, achieving this kind of spiritual awareness is pivotal in life. However, a question arises: how is eating which is a bodily function related to the concept of being spiritual? Well, i
Evolutionary change cannot be measured in one or two generations. Developing ideas and forces may be stirring under the surface, preparing to burst forth and, in the interim, remain relatively unseen. In the interim, life goes on as it has always gone on, with the vital and animal propensities governing much of what passes for civilisation in this world.
Your question is very healthy for two reasons: 1.You are clear in your mind as to what kind of happiness you would want to have; andrn2.Youâve shown the initiative to look for ways to regulate i.e. intentionally cause the neurotransmitters to flow, rather than wait for such events to happen in life that can trigger these neurotransmitters. Good! So letâs begin...rnYou are looking for lasting and real happiness! And you may perhaps know that real happiness can come only fr
In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna asks how the ‘liberated soul’ can be recognised. How does he walk? How does he talk? What distinguishing characteristics can we find that identify such a person? Sri Krishna responds that there are not exte al signs, but only the inner standpoint of the individual that marks the difference between someone still bound to the ordinary life and the soul who is liberated and free.
The worldly life, at every step, presents us with many tempting and lucrative goals that we consider important in life; and therefore sincerely work towards and strive for it, sometimes out of need, sometimes out of want. One of such examples is marriage and worldly relationships. Generally, people marry because they are in search of a life-long companionship through which they can fill their life with love and happiness. Marriage is indeed a life-long commitment that is fulf
Is Corona also a Soul?rnFew people say Corona virus is non-living, and others say it is living. While some argue that how can something, which spreads so fast and infects other living beings so quickly, not be considered a living creature; some others feel they are non-living for various biological reasons. Hence, we can say, this is a subjective belief so far! Yes, according to Jainism, we should not cause the slightest hurt to any living being!rnParam Pujya Dada Bhagwan say
The process of the yogic sadhana inevitably begins to shift the consciousness inward and upward, and exposes the seeker to powers, forces and energies that are not easily seen or understood from the standpoint of the exte al mind and life. Thus, there is what we may call a natural opening to the mental, vital and subtle physical planes that surround and press upon the exte al manifestation of the universe.
Many years ago, Sri M P Pandit suggested that a devotee write an article about the importance of precise bookkeeping and accounting while engaged in service. There was a prevailing sentiment that such ‘mental ideas’ were antithetical to the kind of absolute devotion and surrender that put everything in the hands of the Mother, and which thereby assumed that everything would work out, money would come as needed and everything would be properly handled.
Practising non-attachment is essential to experience inner peace and contentment. When we are dependent on external factors such as relationships, jobs, finances, material delights etc. for our sense of well-being, for our personal happiness and pleasure, we will naturally develop a strong attachment towards them. Consequently, we begin to want things to turn out in a particular way only. Thus, attachment leads to expectations. And when these expectations are not met, one is

So often, we experience that suddenly some unexpected or unwanted event happens in life. For instance, a sudden avalanche sweeps hundreds of people away or an epidemic takes upon a huge toll; some die at the time of birth while some are born disabled; a few of us easily achieve a successful career while many even after a tough struggle fail to achieve desired gains. When we witness such circumstances in our own life, our mind questions, âWhy this happened?â, âWhy only I
There are two kinds of brahmacharya: 1.One form of brahmacharya is when you do not participate in or encourage sexuality through the mind, speech, and body, andrn2.The ultimate form of brahmacharya (celibacy) is when oneâs focus is always in the awareness of âI am a Pure Soul.â It is to conduct (charya) oneâs Self in the Soul (brahma). That is the real brahmacharya. The practice of Brahmacharya (Celibacy) has innumerable benefits. Let us have a look at some of them:rn
Introduction: Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol is an inner guidebook for the soul. These mantric verses imbue even the body with potent spiritual resonance.
The soul makes choices along the way and in so doing, it builds up the psychic being as it grows, evolves and passes through a series of births and deaths of the physical existence. The Jivatman represents the Divine Consciousness presiding over each individual formation within the manifestation and remains unattached to the specific results of any specific decision made in the individual lifetime, but remains fixed on the larger divine intention in the manifestation.
As consciousness develops in the seeker, it clearly brings with it changes in the way the seeker perceives and understands and reactions to events, situations, people, opportunities, etc. What is often forgotten is that it is not the extraordinary and massive experiences that effectuate long-term change, but more realistically, it is the day to day adjustments that come about through the steady process of consciousness growth.
Once you understand what forgiveness means and how easily you can do it, youâll be able to forgive.rnBut before that... Just imagine, some day, some mistake happened by you. You realized it and you have deep repentance for it. However, the other person is just not ready to forgive you. Every time you meet him, forget about a smile, he turns his face and ignores you. How would you feel? On the other hand, when the same mistake happened by you with some third person, your fee
Yes of course! If at the final moment, a person remains in Samadhi, he shall be joyous and balanced at the time of death. Also, his loved ones and everyone near him will experience enormous peace and bliss within, despite this person having died! Death in SamadhirnSamadhi death means at the time of death, the dying one remembers nothing but his Soul. His chit (consciousness) is focused only on his Pure Soul. His mind, his chit, his intellect and his ego are completely still.
There has been a lot of publicity about what is called generally the “law of attraction”. This holds that an individual can focus on something and thereby cause it to be attracted to him. People have used it to try to attract wealth, romance, and other things they desire to themselves. There is, of course, an occult truth behind the connection between ‘subject’ and ‘object’ that takes place when the focus or concentration of the subject shifts to the object, and thereby can cause some attraction.
The Maturation of the Soul Across Lifetimes in Fulfillment of Its Evolutionary Roler Posted on May 2, 2023r
In life's grand mosaic, every creature, regardless of its size, holds its place and significance. Among these tiny beings are gnats, often regarded merely as nuisances. However, from a spiritual perspective, gnats are much more than bothersome insects. They are considered powerful symbols, carrying messages and lessons that can offer profound insights into our lives. The gnat spiritual meaning is rich with symbolism and lessons that are deeply relevant to our personal and sp
If we reflect on how many actions or operations of the physical body take place without our mental intervention, it becomes clear that the body has its own highly developed, and essential, form of consciousness that operates independently of the mind. One common example is widely experienced. An individual is walking across ice or some other slippery surface and suddenly starts to lose his balance. Before the mind can react, the body sets in motion a balancing routine and in many cases can prevent an outright fall to the ground.

The time and effort needed to overcome the numerous impediments along the way for those seeking the Divine realisation implies that the seeker must have an intense inner drive to carry on through all difficulties and delays encountered. This inner drive is known as aspiration. It is called the “flame of aspiration” because of the sense of a burning need deep within the being, and because obstacles are ‘burned up’ through the intensity of the seeking.
Most people look at what they consider to be their personality in a very simple and straightforward manner. The mixture of ideas, thought-process, emotional responses, vital reactions, desires and physical needs and cravings is simply ‘who they are’. When they conclude that something needs to change, they try any number of strategies such as invoking resolutions, development of will-power, or even, various forms of self-education and training of some aspect of their being.
Within the intricate tapestry of spiritual lore, stink bug symbolism occupies a unique and often overlooked place, yet its profound meanings and messages resonate deeply for those attuned to its significance. In spiritual traditions around the world, from ancient cultures to contemporary interpretations, stink bug symbolism has been revered as a symbol carrying deep insights into resilience, transformation, and the interconnectedness of all life. Despite the humble appearance
It is human nature to want to categorize and pigeon-hole what happens and make developments fit into definitions of our choosing. This same thing occurs when we look at openings of the spiritual nature and the development of or transformation of consciousness. Not only do we want to define and categorize, but we want to overlay our own preferred view and methods onto other people and use that template to try to understand and judge others, their spiritual practice and their inner development.
Until an individual takes up the issue of inner growth and development, whether this is for spiritual progress, mental development, emotional growth, vital discipline or some kind of physical control, he tends to take very little notice of any inner conflict or struggle. He just acts ‘naturally’ according to his own idea of what his life is about. This all changes when an individual attempts to undertake any manner of change in some part of his being.

Yes, the Soul within is indeed divine!rnParam Pujya Dada Bhagwan, an enlightened Spiritual Master has said, rnâThe Soul itself is God (the Divine)! âI am John (you may insert your own name here)â is the realization that you have right now. And when you will realize âI am Soulâ (Self-Realization), that is when you will have the realization of God. The Soul verily is the God itself. Even your Soul is God, and his Soul is also God. Parmatma (God, the Divine) resides in
It is the normal process of Nature that each being, each individual experiences life, interacts with his environment and with other individuals and forms thereby his physical being, his vital being and his mental being through these interactions. What is not easily recognised, due to the unseen central being around which these aspects form and develop, is that this process systematically provides an ever-richer basis of experience and growth to the soul, the psychic being. For a long time, this growth process is something that occurs slowly and steadily across countless lifetimes.
Human beings are essentially dependent on their mental perception in order to function in the world. This mental perception frames what we see, how we experience it, and our interpretation. We thus try to transcribe anything provided to us by our senses (or provided directly to the mind without reliance on the senses) into a mental framework. It is similar to the idea that we try to translate one language into another, where the one language has heavy inflection, inference and subtle meanings that are not truly captured in the language into which it has been translated.

As we take our standpoint primarily in the exte al nature, we are clearly subject to the action of the three Gunas, or ‘qualities’ of Nature. These qualities do not remain constant and are ever-changing, and they then determine the type of reaction and action an individual has in any particular situation or provocation. Thus, depending on the predominance of a particular quality at any point in time, an individual may exhibit totally different responses to any situation.
The vital desire-soul animates the exte al being. When it enters the physical frame, we say that there is life in the body. When it departs, we say that the person has died. This is distinguishable from the true soul, the psychic being, which is not dependent on either the life or death of a particular body, which transcends and survives the life of the body, and which takes on new forms as needed to carry out its role in the universal manifestation.
Much of the confusion about the nature and action of the soul, the psychic being in man, is due to the loose and varied way the terms are thrown around in everyday parlance. We have ‘soul food’ and ‘soul mates’. We treat the soul as the seat of morality. At the same time, soul is used to identify some indistinct spiritual principle that underlies life and its significance for the individual being. Religions speak to us of the mortal peril to our soul for entering into activities they (variously) define as sinful.
If we reflect for a moment that a being who does not have a highly developed abstract mental capacity, perhaps a fish or a honeybee, or even a cat or dog, is unable to truly appreciate and understand the functioning of the higher reasoning and logical capabilities that human beings consider to be their exclusive province.
A feeling, an emotion, a thought arises within us. Do we ‘manufacture’ these, or are we the recipients of them from elsewhere? If we manufacture them, how exactly do we do that? Where does the basis for that thought or feeling come from? What causative factors are there for a specific feeling or thought to come to our awareness at a specific time?
