I have many times wondered about the wisdom that lies in many of our adages. One of such is “a house that is divided against itself cannot stand” We are the house and we are the world. The universe belongs to us, it can only be sustained through harmony. Without love there is no harmony, both are intertwined. Through loving one another and helping each other to survive, the divine purpose for creation will be perfected. You have been prepared very intensively. But the preparations beyond the veil have also been very intensive. I’m not big on schedules and structures, though I would like to be. I admire those who create their own schedules and stick to them as well as those who accept institutional structures that tell them where to be, what to do, when to show up and how long to stay. I, on the other hand, am one of those people who is often held hostage by my artistic temperament. In fact, I can quickly become resentful of any person or institution that tells me what to do or when to do it.

Over 20 years ago, my mother disowned me for a period of 10 years of my life. It wasn’t something I could ever imagine doing to one of my children, but it happened. It was one of the most painful times of my life. I was angry at her. I got married and gave birth to my first child and she wasn’t there. I missed her and longed for a mother-daughter relationship. I cried a lot. Today my mother and I have a beautiful relationship and I am so grateful for our reconciliation. A

Emotions are quite literally our feelings. We feel them in our bodies. Sometimes we feel an emotion as a tingle, we can feel our bodies overheat and blood rush to our faces when we are embarrassed, we can feel muscular tension when we are angry or afraid, our hearts start to beat faster. But some emotions or feelings are more obscure, not so clearly felt or sensed. For example an emotion can be felt as heaviness in our chests when we are sad. It’s no wonder that we say things like “it just hurts so bad” and that we are brokenhearted when we lose someone.

For years on my spiritual path my teachers, friends and many awakened leaders would speak of a very abstract concept: Oneness. “We are all one…”, “We are all connected…, “The other person is you…”, blah, blah, blah. I got the point and I started to believe that indeed we were equals and not one person could truly be “better”, “greater than” or “more important” than another. The profoundness of this concept never resonated fully and I continued reprogramming my beliefs and using this oneness idea to justify others’ behaviors or my own perceptions of shortcomings.

This past weekend my 13-year old daughter and I volunteered to perform a day of service work in our community. Our commitment to service work started when she was 5 years old and we volunteered time at our church selling pumpkins during October. She knew that the pumpkins were grown by Navajo Indian farmers for income. Having sold pumpkins for the past 8 years, autumn isn't the same unless we serve our time in the pumpkin path and her of sharing with customers whom their money is benefiting.
