Watching the Super Bowl yesterday I was not surprised of the turn of events leading to the final outcome even though one team had a considerable lead at halftime. Not that the Atlanta Falcons are poorly managed as a team, but One of the reasons the New England Patriots are and have been so successful is because of the coach Bill Belichick. Belichick is known for having a well oiled machine or system in place. Most people who deliver their presentations in the workplace will spend their time looking to impress their bosses, work peers, committees, and customers and so on. The presenters will have the information pertinent to their subject of discussion and illustrate with power point or some other visual aids. They will do their best to convey their information to their audience and probably be glad to have gotten through with their act. The purpose of a presentation is to sell your audience and most individuals think that they will get their point across by just simply presenting the information.

On September 26, at 10:02 AM, I stood on top of Gurla Mandhata with 5 of my teammates: Sherpas Panuru, Mingma Chhiring, and Karma Rita, and climbers Kirk Allen and Stuart Sloat. In reaching the 25,502 foot (7728 meter) summit of this remote peak in western Tibet, we became the first American team to do so and only the 13th team to climb the peak, ever. Clear in all of our minds, however, was that we were not alone on the summit. Our efforts and successes on that day were onl
Personal career growth and team growth are inextricably tied together. Reporters cover stories over and over again with people they like. On May 31st at 12 noon I received a telephone call which I found hard to comprehend. My brother aged 49 had died whilst on a training session preparing for the London to Brighton Cycle race. Often when discipline is mentioned it seems that the first thing that is thought of is punishment. “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”- Joseph Chilton Pearce Fear of the boss, or the boss’s system, destroys creativity. Fear creeps into the workplace in many ways: fear of making a mistake; fear of other peoples’ opinions; fear of embarrassment; fear of change. The more afraid employees are, the less creative they will be. It is a well-accepted scientific belief that we humans need to feel secure to focus on higher-level intellectual tasks.

Unfortunately my boss, Larry, had a different vision of my role. He insisted I represent management’s position to the childcare workers.

However, the responses always seem to fall under these four categories: people, situations, outcomes and feelings. People often define the word stress associated with a specific individual, symptoms of stress, causes or a situation they have experienced, the results or outcomes of stress, or by feelings related to stress. Rarely do I hear an actual definition of stress.
