Search engines look for very specific things when deciding where on the search results to place your website. The keywords for your business website need to be placed in easy locations where the search engine spiders can find them quickly. Spiders search for keywords on a website starting from the top a page to the bottom, so keywords skewed towards the top of a page can be found first. It is critical for result success that import business keywords are placed near the top of a page.
A good way to see how this done is to search for a keyword and see what websites are in the top positioning. Look at where the words you were searching for are at on the website. Are they close to the top? Look carefully at the beginning of paragraphs, beginning of sentences and in the title bar of the page. Look at the "alt descriptions" in the graphics (just place your cursor over an image and see the tag appear). This is a neat trick to help positioning. Search engine spiders can't see the text in a graphic, so the alt description of the graphic can help.
You can name the graphic file name with keywords as well. Instead of naming an image Dec.2008-girl.jpg, used keywords such as internetmarketing12.jpg. These file names are in the source code of your website and it is where search engine spiders have to look for words. It is important to the searcher that they get the information they were looking for. It is also important to the success of your Internet business that you be found. New business on the web comes from searches. Where you come up in the results means a lot or a little in terms of sales.
It will cost you time and money if you don't do your keyword placement research. Your on the web to make money and it is an important part of your business success. Careful planning while designing and writing your website can mean the difference between big results and failure.
