Everybody knows at least one of them. They are the people who have all the best things in life: the wonderful relationship, the great career, the beautiful house, the luxury car… the entire package. Good things just seem to fall into their laps. Hopefully, one of those lucky, wealthy people you are thinking about right now is yourself. If not, read on, because you have the power to create your own wealth, just as the “lucky” people do.

Now, here’s the shocker: “Lucky” people aren’t really lucky. Many times luck can be reinterpreted simply as a function of one’s attitude and outlook. If we observe these individuals more closely, we will find that lucky people are, most generally, upbeat individuals who keep their “eyes on the prize.” They find ways to create their opportunities, make things happen, and generate their wealth. So don't just wait to get lucky - it doesn't happen just like that!

This same mindset is the focus of Rhonda Byrne’s best-selling book, “The Secret”. In it she quotes Rev. Michael Beckwith, who says, “What you think about, you bring about.” The Secret says your habitual thoughts manifest themselves as things in your life. It also maintains that the energy you send out into the universe is returned to you in kind. However, if that is a little too esoteric for you, let’s go back to our more practical explanation mentioned earlier: those seemingly “lucky” people have happy, positive attitudes that help them bring prosperity into their lives.

In fact, The Secret suggests that one of the best ways to attract wealth is to be happy. No matter which explanation you subscribe to, you can’t deny that good-natured personalities attract other positive people to them. Therefore, they are better able to meet new people and network with others, qualities which allow more chances to be upwardly-mobile in job situations. With their can-do outlook, these individuals are also more confident and sometimes take more risks. This sometimes means striving for a promotion, but more often it involves striking out into business for themselves, either part-time or full-time. People with positive attitudes also become more creative and open to new opportunities and innovative business ideas.

One road to happiness, of course, is doing what you love. What passions do you have? What hobbies do you enjoy? Step back and think about those things you adore. Is it books? Cars? Cooking? Jewelry? Music? Computers? Find your joy – and then find a way to make that into your career or business. Then you’ll be doing what you love and making money at the same time! For example, you could…

• Take a class (or more) – Education is always a wise investment. Where would that next step in your education take you? Or perhaps you would like to pursue a new career?

• Become an independent representative for a company – There are many companies that allow individuals to “start their own business.” Check into the opportunities presented by Avon, Mary Kay, Silpada, Pampered Chef, Amway, and more. Alternatively, on a larger scale, consider looking into turn-key businesses or franchise opportunities.

• Turn to the Net – The internet has exploded, with no end in sight. For beginners, try eBay; you don’t have to advertise or worry about search engines, and you don’t even have to create your own site. Or, with just a little time and money investment, you can start your own blogs or websites, related to whatever your interests may be. Then branch out and monetize your site by becoming part of affiliate programs. That's what I've done with my own interest in antique and crystal chandeliers.

• Use your imagination – What else might fit your style? Be creative, and you will be surprised at the opportunities that will open up right in front of you!

Whatever action you decide to take, just remember one last thing: as The Secret suggests, visualize, visualize, visualize. This will motivate you to achieve your dreams. Imagine those things that you desire and believe you already have them. Go ahead and be specific. Feel your hands on the supple leather steering wheel of the new BMW you desire. See the beautiful shimmer and glow of an Italian crystal chandelier hanging in the entryway of your splendid new home. Experience the joy of springing out of your bed every morning, knowing everything you want or desire is right there waiting for you.

So give up waiting for your lucky day. All it takes is just a new perspective. What do you think?
