Single Minded

True love does not come by finding the perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly. - Jason Jordan

I heard a story about two friends, both women in their early thirties, each one single but desperate to find a partner, get married, settle down and start a family. However, they have each agreed to set conditions on finding their Mr. Right: He must own his own house, drive his own car, hold down a professional job and have bags of money stashed away for rainy days.

They seem to know ‘what’ they’re looking for but maybe they’ve forgotten to think about ‘who’ they’re looking for. They might be fortunate enough to find partners who tick all of the boxes and I hope they are, but sometimes; you’ve got to be careful what you wish for: someone with all the money in the world or someone who thinks the world of you?

Finding the perfect partner or being in the perfect marriage is maybe a bit like finding the perfect employee or being in the perfect job with the perfect employer. Relationships, whether personal or working, involve people and none of us are perfect.

If you’re in a relationship that isn’t working, maybe it’s because you’ve let the imperfections get you down. Maybe you’ve forgotten to appreciate all the small things that are perfect. Maybe you need to accentuate the positives for a change and actually tell your partner all those little things that you love about them. Maybe you need to encourage an employee by praising their strengths in such a way that it eclipses their weaknesses.

And if you’re looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right, be careful ‘what’ and ‘who’ you wish for. In the search for the perfect partner you might just overlook someone who will love you perfectly for the rest of your life - despite all of your little foibles.
