The specific area of discussion for this article is an implication for shaping our awareness of ourselves.

Please remember some basic premises when reading this article:

Keep an open mind and an open heart.

Communication of an idea or concept takes time. Accomplishing this may take several attempts. While this article may not help accomplish this others might.

Take time to reflect. True understanding comes from within. True insights are those that occur once you realize a new degree of awareness.

Expect change to occur. Expect that your awareness and sense of self will grow.

In this article we will allude to some psychological stages that humans go through in the course of their life. Also we allude to those influences that bring us happiness. Those things that humans will seek out to bring us emotional well being. For a more complete discussion of these items please refer to the above-mentioned writings or other articles in the series.

Time

There is no such thing as time. That is time as so many of us think about it.

Many of us are focused on the future, thinking about those things that are to come.

We lack a complete self-awareness of the present. As such we live incomplete lives. We have turned off a full awareness of the present and our existence in the here and now.

Our Awareness

The expression of life gives us form. Our form gives us awareness. The degree of awareness that we have is dependent on our genetic makeup and environmental influences. Essentially the structure of our brains and the experiences of our lives that have shaped our personalities make us who we are.

One can speculate that if our brain structure is altered our related abilities will alter as well. Also if all of our experiences can serve to nurture and strengthen our emotional health then we can speculate that we can come to maximize the potential that we have or may come to have.

Our awareness of the world is through those physical senses that we possess. There may well be senses that our current science has yet to identify. Our physical form has evolved to perceive the world over the eons that predate our individual birth.

We actually can perceive the here and now relatively easily. It seems that most of us become distracted from this perspective. Most of us shut off this awareness.

Some Background

All things are in motion. The universe is full of forces and physical manifestations. Various forces act on all items. These forces range from gravity, to various Electro-magnetic ones. We see them in the geologic changes on earth, the changes in weather. We can observe the changes in the cosmos as various forces play out amongst the heavenly bodies.

Life itself is a force.

It makes us who we are today.

That elemental force caused the basic components of life to come together to manifest the first vestiges of living cells eons ago. That same force is found in all forms that we see today.

Each living bacteria, plant and animal that we see today is the result of a process that has been in the works for eons. That process is the active expression of life as found on our planet. This force of life is an ongoing process.

The False Perception of Time

We can observe the motion of all things. As such we see the cycles caused by the combination of those forces. Seasons of the year. Tides, lunar phases, animal migrations, these are just some of patterns we find.

We can anticipate the motion of things. We can predict approximately where something will be given the current status of a situation.

As humans we have one of the highest forms of self-awareness (that we are aware of) possible. We each have some level of emotional health. These levels can very from being low (feelings of sadness or having low self-esteem) to being relatively high (being in a state of happiness or having higher self-esteem).

As humans we greatly anticipate experiencing those things that elevate us to the higher levels of emotional health.

We are greatly motivated to seek out those things that bring us higher states of emotional health.

Our minds can be greatly influenced by this.

In fact many of us spend our time looking forward to experiencing those things to the exclusion of all else.

(Further some of us are distracted by experiences that we perceive as enriching our sense of self but actually are not. This line of discussion is better carried on in other forums.)

An Exercise

Find a quiet room or place. Close your eyes. What are you thinking about? What is that base emotion that you are feeling?

Are you anticipating some event that is coming? Are you looking forward towards what is coming to the exclusion of where you are now?

Most of us are not fully aware of ourselves. We are not aware of the presence that is the expression of the life within us.

Awareness is an expression of life either it is or it isn’t.

To carry on a line of thought started from above. The process of life through out the eons has been to find expression. That expression has developed to a point in humans and other higher life forms where awareness is present. While we cannot fully predict where this process will lead or to what ends it is capable of we can see its results.

Something is either alive or it is not. It is something that when it exists it exists. As such the capacity for awareness, a function of life is or it isn’t.

Our awareness exists. What we perceive as the future is really an anticipation of that which is to come.

Just where should our focus should be?

Briefly stated our awareness should be focused on the here and now. We need to nurture our self-awareness to the exclusion of those distractions that lead us away from true spiritual growth.

We will find that the present is all that truly exists. As such the distractions that lead us away from a healthy self-awareness, a healthy spiritual existence, have no value.

This is probably the hardest thing for humans to do. It is something that we must strive for.

As mentioned before other writings by others and myself expand on this line of thought. Please search them out.
