Fish oil is one of the very few supplements that, when taken daily, can truly be said to have wide-ranging, long-term health benefits. It can affect several biological systems, improving their functioning and helping us avoid disease. Here are 3 categories of health challenges that can be avoided with regular concentrated omega 3 use.

Cancer. The exciting scientific field of epigenetics has now proven that our thoughts, emotions and nutrient intakes can actually affect the way our genes express themselves. This means that it is not the genes themselves which cause disease, but the genes expressing themselves through the environment, as the environment, in turn, affects them. It's analogous to a give-and-take relationship.

Specifically, concentrated fish oil has been shown to affect the way that certain genes behave in relation to inflammation. Omega 3 fatty acids are strong inhibitors of inflammatory chemicals. These chemicals are more abundant in cancer patients. Japanese researchers have found that concentrated fatty fish supplements can significantly decrease levels of C-reactive protein and arachidonic acid in the blood, thereby decreasing the chances of getting cancer.

Auto immune diseases. Inflammation is heavily implicated in autoimmune diseases as well. Asthma, allergies, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis are all intimately linked to the levels of inflammatory chemicals in the blood. Plenty of studies have shown that asthma and allergy symptoms can be greatly decreased by taking concentrated omega-3 supplements every day.

I have a lot of personal experience with this one, as I used to have severe allergies and mild, allergic bronchial asthma, and have gotten rid of them after changing my diet and starting supplements. It

Depression. DHA, one of the major components of concentrated fish oil, is actually the substance that forms the structure of the brain. Most of our brain cells consist of fat. DHA, a type of fish fat, is the most important fat for the brain and the one that the brain needs most.

Studies have shown that many times depression can be a direct result of a DHA deficiency in the brain. Taking 2 to 3 grams of concentrated fish oil daily can help prevent depression in most people, by nourishing their brain before they have a chance to become depressed.

Personally, I've been taking a high-grade, pure fish oil for a long time now and have had great results, particularly with bronchial asthma, allergies, mild rheumatism and dampened mood. Together with a broad-spectrum, natural multivitamin, this product can actually help us live better lives.
