Are you able to easily ride the wave of life? Everything in life occurs in cycles, there is an ebb and a flow to everything. This is readily apparent in nature where we see seasonal cycles, lunar cycles, etc. There are business cycles, life cycles, relationships cycles - it seems that everything in life operates on this schedule of waxing and waning. Interestingly, when you look at nature, there doesn't seem to be much protest. When a tree loses its leaves, it doesn't seem to lament its condition. It seems to intuitively know that this is just part of the cycle. Spring will come, green leaves will appear once again, then they will turn into beautiful vibrant colors and once again fade away. Or think of an ocean wave. It begins by emerging, coming out of the ocean. Then it peaks, exists for a short moment, and then falls back into the ocean from whence it came. Everything in the phenomenal world operates on this principle of ebb and flow or cycles. The Buddhists call it arising and subsiding. Everything that arises must also subside. The problem occurs, of course, when we attempt to create permanence where there is none. As humans, we seem to always fight against this cyclical nature. Instead of riding easily on the wave of life, we fight against it. As humans, it seems we are not too comfortable with this cyclical nature of life. Unlike a tree, we like to grasp and hold onto our green leaves, desperately not wanting them to go away. Interestingly, when we learn to accept and honor the cyclical nature of life, it opens up a deep understanding. From this understanding comes peace, from this peace comes tranquility, and from this tranquility ultimately comes energy. Take some time today to notice and honor the cycles in your life, whatever cycles you might be going through. Know that they are a natural part of life's ebb and flow. Accept the present as it is. Realize that you can always intend the future, but you must first accept the present. Accept the present, intend the future. Learn how to ride the wave of life, and you will learn how to tap into that source which allows you to create, to enjoy, and ultimately to thrive. -------------------------- Are you struggling with disordered eating?
