Listening is considered one of the important segments of communication skills but it is ignored by many of us. It is wrongly presumed by the people that no extra effort is required to develop listening skills. Candidly speaking, listening is an everyday affair that needs to be paid much attention. It is said that one cannot become a good communicator unless one is a good listener. We should not forget the saying – “If speaking is silver, listening is gold”. So, every one of us especially students must try hard to develop their listening skills by following various techniques. As a matter of fact all of us tend to speak rather than to listen and in the name of listening we actually hear. This present article provide you different techniques to improve your listening skills within no time.

Important Tips for becoming Effective Listener:
Some of the very important tips or guidelines for becoming effective listeners are as following:

1.Firstly, you should be interested in the matter what the speaker is trying to convey to you.
2.To the maximum extent possible, you must talk less and must not interrupt the speaker in the middle.
3.To understand the complete message of the speaker you must not only listen but also observe his non-verbal cues.
4.Don’t allow your mind to roam instead take down notes.
5.Try to link what you are listening to what you already know in your past life.
6.Two important qualities readiness and willingness are expected from an active listener. With these twin qualities there will be possibility of proper comprehension of the information that is expressed by the speaker.
7.Concentrate on the message of the speaker completely by not getting distracted to the sounds in your surroundings.
8.Put the speaker at ease and don’t ask any questions in the middle. Let the speaker complete his message totally.
9.Always avoid fake listening fully.
10.Be flexible in accepting the views of the speaker at least for that time with open mind by avoiding close minded attitude.
11.Always remain calm and do not lose your balance and temper.
12.Offer the speaker your regular feedback time to time.
13.You must respect the speaker previous gained knowledge and never allow yourself to enter in arguments.
14.Maintain good eye contact with the speaker right from the beginning to the end.
