Have a happy recession?
Spring cleaning the blues away.

With the long, chilly winter experienced by most North American’s, coupled with the fear and anxiety that so many individuals feel surrounding the recession, it’s no wonder many individuals are in need of a boost.

Elizabeth Manuel, author and happiness expert suggests starting with one’s environment. “The ancient art of Feng Shui suggests that by focusing on one’s home and office, an individual can open the doors of prosperity, joy and health. While that might be too mystical for some to believe, almost everyone agrees that we feel better after spring cleaning our homes, cars and offices.”

Clutter, looking for files or cramming more paper into that overflowing “junk drawer” sucks energy and reduces efficiencies, not to mention the visual mess of it all. Manuel suggests some simple actions individuals can do to refresh and renew their home and life. And with the tough economic environment in mind, it’s even more important to feel good, prosperous and hopeful in our intimate spaces such as our bedroom. It doesn’t have to break the bank and a little opulence can go a long way such as:

1. A fresh coat of paint. Plus, with some government’s home renovation incentives, do-it-yourself projects might even receive a tax credit.
2. Surround your home and office with life; fresh produce, plants and flowers. For a minimal investment, the energy will provide a positive vibe.
3. Hang around animals and children. If you don’t have any of your own, offer to baby-sit those of your friend’s.
4. Clean out your filing cabinets, car, that “junk drawer” and of course, your closets. Holding on to old and unused items, clutter and dust hold back those feelings of happiness that a refreshed environment provides. Visit a dollar store for storage items that hide household items that don’t have a spot or are unsightly.
5. Plan a garage sale and list your family’s unused and long forgotten items on Ebay. Not only will you get rid of your old junk, but you might make enough extra cash flow for a family weekend away.

Spring cleaning is a valuable, refreshing and useful exercise that can involve the entire family and office. Not only can it be done on a dime, it could open up new opportunities for growth and prosperity.
