Homework-An Essential Part Of Student Life
Written by Harry Yadav
Why do students take homework as a part of their class work? Is it because they are pressurized to complete their homework within a deadline? Well, it is one of the traits of children to avoid jobs that are given to them on a daily basis. They find their routine work very monotonous. But they don’t realize homework is a practice to keep a hold over the portions of that have been dealt in the class, so that students don’t find it difficult to recall what has been done in the class.
It is practice that makes a man perfect and, even the worst can be improved by practice. It is one of the many responsibilities of parents to make their children understand the value of homework. Homework also keeps the children engaged in their leisure time which otherwise would have been wasted. Homework should be instilled in students as a habit. Though, homework has both positive and negative effects, the excessive pressure of homework may create school phobia in the children even when they are at home.
It also makes them dislike their studies. It is not the fault of homework but of the way parents and teachers force them to finish it within a certain period. There are certain rules which parents should set for their children but they themselves also should follow those rules. TV sets should be turned off during the children’s study hours because children get distracted easily by the sound of televisions. There should be a different room for the kids which they can use only for their study purpose.
They should be taught to jot down their subject of homework so that there won’t be any ambiguity or any chance of missing out on any homework. Children should not be left all alone to do their homework, parents should keep an eye over them to check if the children have finished their work or not. Homework is important for children because it helps them memorize things easily. The time that children spend in the classroom to understand a lesson is not sufficient enough. If they go through the same thing after coming back at home, it helps them understand the lessons taught in class in a better way. Homework is not only beneficial for the children but for the parents also as they can get involved with their child’s studies and can have an idea of what and how well their child is learning in school.
This also restricts the children to skip any subject because they know their parents will get to know about it. Parents should make it a point to set a specific time for their children to do their homework. The time that has been set for homework should not clash with the study time of the children. Parents’ involvement in their childrens’ studies gives them a feeling that their parents are concerned about them. Finishing homework on time also reflects the seriousness about studies of the children. But children should never be pressurized to complete their homework on time rather they should be made understand the importance of it and parents also should make it a rule for disciplined study.
