These are good questions and ones that from time to time trouble many of us during our life!
A disturbed mind makes us feel clueless
Key factors that contribute to you feeling like this could be:

Feeling insecure
Lack of confidence
Hesitative nature
No Direction in life
Lack of Motivation
Unable to cope up with the competition
No job satisfaction
Distracted mind
The company you keep, and
The most important one is: the unfolding of demerit Karmas
Put in your best efforts with a positive frame of mind
The reason why some people are successful is because they have a good amount of merit karmas standing to their credit. These merit karmas are a result of their past life deeds that are unfolding in this current life.

“When things happen according to your will, then it is a result of your merit karma and if things do not happen according to your will, then it is all a result of your demerit karma.” - Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan
This means, when it is time for your merit karmas to come into effect, you too will experience the good positive effects. Until then, you put in your best efforts with a positive frame of mind.

In what direction do you put in the effort?
First, consider what you want to achieve. By knowing precisely what you want to achieve, you know where you have to concentrate your efforts.
And then commit to it. Begin with a very small aim, and be sincere and focused about achieving it. Even when things become hard, do not give up. Just focus on the final outcome that you are trying to achieve. When you do so, you will quickly spot the distractions that so easily lead you astray.

Here are the basic Goals that shall give the right direction to your life
It’s okay if you do not know your goal. Even for those who know their goals very clearly in life, the teachings of Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, the Enlightened being, throw a special light on what should the fundamental goals of life be, for every human being:

To not hurt any living being. This goal has been prescribed by the Enlightened Ones. The reason we experience difficulties in life is because of our own past karmas, that of hurting others through our deeds, speech and thoughts. Karmas are an effect or a result of the causes which we had created in our past life. While the good karmas bring happiness, the bad karmas bring unhappiness. So now, if we keep an inner intent of not hurting others, we are cultivating good karmas rather than the bad ones.

To strengthen this inner intent, every morning, say the following prayer to God with a sincere heart, “Dear God, May no living being in this world be caused the slightest hurt through my thoughts, words or actions.”
Repeat this prayer 5 times, and see the transformation that gradually happens in you and your life. The results shall be wonderful!

To attain liberation. Karma leads to suffering. Therefore, the ultimate goal of our human life should be to liberate ourselves from the bondage of all karma, and thereby, the misery and suffering that ensues from it.
To achieve this goal, you must attain Self-realisation.
Ignorance has bound us and Self-realisation liberates us
The reason for suffering is ignorance. It is because of ignorance that you have bound karmas.

In Akram Vignan, at the time of Self-realisation, the ignorance of, ‘I am this body and name’ is removed, and the awareness of, ‘I am a pure Soul’ sets in. With this right awareness of, ‘I am pure Soul’, new karma does not bind.
Moreover, the Soul is made up of infinite knowledge and eternal bliss. Hence, upon the awakening of the Soul at the time of Self-Realization, thereafter, the confusion begins to cease and you start feeling inner peace. You understand things much more clearly, correctly and scientifically. Also, you are less attracted to distractions then.

Thus, Self-Realization is the way to go! And not to hurt any living being ought to be our motto in life. Make these your goals of life, and start working in this direction. Then see the transformation that happens in you, one which you may have not even dreamed of!

Author's Bio:

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifest within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization.
