Every single year, losing weight will never fail to top the list of people's New Year's resolutions all around the world. However for most people, their weight still remains the same, and their body still looks chubby, with little to no improvement in their health and looks. So what are some of the reasons so many people, including you, have not been able to lose weight effectively?

The biggest reason is self-sabotaging goals. Nearly all resolutions are broken within the first two months of each and every year as such fat loss resolutions usually involve making drastic changes in your eating and exercising habits which took years to form. Most people are lazy, and always give themselves excuses to start their diet or exercise at some later point in the future. At that point in time, most people then accept that they have failed and simply go back to their established patterns.

Therefore, if you wish to lose weight, you should take small organized steps towards your goal. You can start by making better food choices when doing your weekly grocery shopping. This way, when your home only consists of healthy foods, there will be no way for you to eat junk foods. You can start walking around the neighborhood park instead of always staying in front of your computer or television.

None of the above are considered big steps; they are steps you can easily visualize yourself performing and completing. Even if you slipped up on your goals once or twice, your progress will not be lost, as you will have gotten used to the new, more active and healthy lifestyle.

Therefore, to lose weight, you should simply start making better and healthier food choices, walk or take the stairs instead more often, make it a must to complete at least five workouts per week. In the beginning, your motivation source will have to come from your conscious decision to change your body. Afterwards, subsequent motivation will come from seeing results. Thus, as your body changes visibly for the better, so will your motivation levels.

Finally, you have to believe in yourself. Break down your goals into smaller steps, so that you can better follow and gauge your success. Trust me, getting into athletic shape will benefit every aspect of your life, be it mental or physical. Also, you will become a much more confident person. Also, remember that you do not have to wait for New Year to start your new goals; you can and should start today!
