To work from home, to have your own business and be your own boss, is a dream for many that hold regular jobs. Thank heavens for the internet and the power it has brought to your average person. Now, with minimal to no cost, you can reach just about anybody and as a result, profit.

The secret? Working smart.

It's cliche, but it's true. If you want to work at home and you want a big slice of cake, you're going to have to do something a little different than what the majority are doing. Don't worry -- different does not have to mean expensive.

Have you heard of YouTube, MySpace, FaceBook, Wikipedia... any of these ring a bell? The reason those sites grew is because they offered something people were seeking and after putting up the offering, they stepped out of the way and let the people do their thing. All those people were working from home or from their cell phones or from cafes, typing away, uploading videos doing one thing in particular... Creating content!

So how does this affect you?

The answer: Creating valuable content brings free traffic to you and your business. Example: Running a daycare... Start a blog about it (for free)! Talk about how to calm a cranky child without resorting to sweets, how you get them to clean up their messes and take a nap when it's naptime. You have knowledge others are seeking -- you just need to share it.

So how is this creating success while you work at home?

By sharing what you know you position yourself as an expert resource. From this position there are many ways to make money: advertisements on your blog / website, charging for newsletters or simple training videos (you can film with an inexpensive webcam), affiliation with all-natural cloth diaper providers around the country... Your imagination is the only thing standing in the way from multiple streams of income you can generate working from home.

This isn't just about running a daycare. Your work at home business does not actually have to be in your house.

For example, maybe you are in a network marketing / MLM business such as Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware or Amway / Quixtar. In this case, positioning yourself as an expert, as a leader, by sharing information and teaching others skills is the best way to grow a strong downline and profit in your opportunity. In this way you create value far beyond just the product or service your company offers.

There are only so many hours in the day. If you want to work from home, you're going to want to learn as much as you can to continually increase your profit margin without continually increasing your work load. Find someone with a bit of experience to share so you can learn to leverage your latent talents and develop new ones.

From there, you'll be working for your own maximum success while working from home, instead of working for your boss's bottom line in a stuffy office far from the family, pets, and noon-day power naps.
