The healing power of forgiveness is like nothing you've experienced before. What most people don't understand is that when they forgive, really forgive, they actually set themselves free. It is the one who holds the pain or anger, or whatever the emotion is inside them that suffers most. The key to being free is to forgive. I know some situations are complicated, and it may be difficult to even consider the thought of forgiveness, but it is important to know that forgiving doesn't mean you carelessly abandon your principles. It doesn't mean you give that person or situation carte blanche to repeat the same behavior. It means you release yourself from the emotional tie to whatever it is, learn whatever you can, and move on. Meaning, you continue going forward with your life. Not forgiving keeps you stuck in that same energy, recreating the situation over and over again.

Once you begin the forgiveness process, you'll see that letting go is so empowering. You'll have the opportunity to look at what emotions come up regarding the incident, and begin dealing with them. Ask yourself questions to help uncover what's lurking underneath the anger or hurt. Going deep with a loving inquiry can lead to some powerful aha moments.

When we choose to forgive, forgiveness comes to us as well. That right there is the beauty of it!

There are many exercises and methods to help you incorporate this practice into your life. There is The Course In Miracles, in which forgiveness is the central teaching. At it's core, it gives us lessons which help shift our perceptions from seeing a sinful world to seeing an innocent one. That is the essence of forgiveness. It focuses on applying different aspects of forgiveness through daily lessons designed to correct the students perception of himself and the world. It states that our individual self is a dream of separation from our oneness with God. Everything that seems to be external is entirely in our mind.

Then there is the ancient Hawaiian Practice, Ho'oponopono which basically means "to correct an error." The error refers to how we see things. It asks us to assume responsibility for everything that occurs in our life, the good, bad and ugly. It talks about how everything we experience in life is a reflection of our thinking, which is rooted in illusion. Everything you see, hear, feel, touch, think or emotionally react to are all things you have created.

The solution is four simple statements made to God asking to erase the memories of the illusion from our thoughts.

Learning to forgive is a step by step process. Take a moment and ask yourself if you really desire to be free of resentment, pain, and loss. Ask yourself if you are willing to explore forgiveness to find out what will feel right for you.

If your answer is yes, you can begin by getting quiet. Close your eyes and start taking refreshing breaths to clear your mind for new information to come forth. Soon the next step will show up for you to follow. Maybe you will read something, or a friend will recommend a source to you. We are powerful creators, with many undiscovered abilities. Put your focus on choosing forgiveness, and one thing is for sure, there will be inspiration wherever you go.
