A significant period of our daily life is spent pleasure-seeking, or more coherently ‘happiness’ seeking.

The thing about happiness is that it is short-lived; it is great while it lasts, but invariably at some point, the mood of happiness will not last… and then, on we go again seeking the next shot of happiness.

This roller coaster of emotion and experiences will be familiar to nearly everyone we know, and more importantly to ourselves – this meandering of mood is likened to, or expressed in words like treadmill, rat race, and ‘same old same old’…

I’ve always tried to embrace; and in my work, promote the need to aim for lasting contentment.

Now contentment is that inner emotional state that has no extreme short-lived highs and subsequent depressive lows.. it is that place of calm, acceptance, balance and inner awareness – it really is THE PLACE!

To forge any semblance of contentment? Well these expressions are perhaps cliché , but ‘be thankful for what you got’, ‘think half-full and not half empty’… all go some way to casting invaluable reflection on your life, as it was, is, and CAN BE!

Another strong driver of contentment is doing, and exploring things that you have never done before!

This may sound weird, because often doing, or attempting to do things you’ve never done before is for many quite daunting, if not scary, and therefore arouses deep unease; instead of a sense of calm and considered thought that may be associated with a contented being.

However the experience and rich empowerment following this new self-discovery is both invaluable and immeasurable, and will help to underpin your growing wisdom – and therefore your sense of calm, acceptance, and contentment in a variety of differing situations and circumstances.

So friend to friend, try to let go of happiness seeking, look at; and count your blessings.

BIG up your natural and incredible innate gifts, share your life with people who make you feel good about simply being YOU, have faith, belief and hope, remember change is constant – nothing will ever remain the same, and if something cannot or will not change through your affect, don’t drive yourself MAD trying!

Remember you have the phenomenal POWER OF CHOICE.
