Gone were the days that people consider hypnosis as a performance trick on stage to captivate the audience attention.

Now, hypnosis is used by specialists, doctors and professionals in treating phobias, traumas or psyche problems.

The advantages of hypnosis has broadened, as new studies show that this can also help individuals improve themselves just by incorporating positive suggestion to the individual’s mind making him or her act upon the hypnotist’s suggestion.

Hypnosis is ideally done by trained hypnotists. But there are also ways of conducting self hypnosis that will help bring forth the best in you.

SELF HYPNOSIS AND MEDITATION – THEIR SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES

Meditation and self hypnosis have a lot of similarities. It both can produce a feeling of peacefulness and light-headedness that relieves stress and negative emotions. The difference is that self hypnosis uses affirmation as part of the therapy.

An affirmation is a positive statement that we tell our self during hypnosis that raises our self-esteem or confidence.

These positive statements that are thought of or said during hypnosis are what is being implanted in the subconscious mind that will then bring change in the attitude, response and emotions when repeated consistently.

SIMPLE STEP IN DOING SELF HYPNOSIS AT HOME

It is not necessary to use affirmations to ensure you get into a relaxed state, but if you do intend to use them when conducting a self hypnosis session, then you should prepare your affirmations prior to commencing.

Next you need to find a quiet comfortable place where you can relax and not be disturbed.

Now in a sitting or lying position, relax your body. A good way to do this is closing your eyes, and breathing deeply through your nose for a few minutes. Then, concentrating on each area of your body, one area at a time, start by first relaxing the muscles around your eyes. Focus on the muscles becoming all heavy and limp and at the same time continue to inhale and exhale through your nose.

Then move down to the jaw muscles, then the neck muscles concentrating on relaxing the muscles slowly and ensuring the breathing is deep and consistent throughout. Continue this procedure for all major muscles in the body e.g. shoulders, upper arms, forearms, hands, fingers, chest stomach, hips thighs etc until your whole body is completely relaxed.

To further promote a deep state of relaxation you can also use some suggestions, whereby you can say such things as “I am very sleepy. My body is heavy and I’m becoming more and more tired.

Once you feel you’re in a complete relaxed state, you can then introduce the positive affirmations which you prepared prior to commencing the session.

Self hypnosis sessions can typically last for between 15 – 25 minutes, however, they can go on for as long as you want, and can be dependant on the nature, length and number of affirmations you use.

OTHER EFFECTIVE WAYS OF DOING SELF HYPNOSIS

There are a lot of audio or video supplements that can aid in self hypnosis. There are a lot of products in the market and you have to research to find out which of these audios or videos are worth investing at. Realizing the fact that there are unresolved problems and negative emotions that’s hindering you to reach your full potential is the first step in change.

Now the next step is to do something about it.

Actions are the manifestation of our emotions from our subconscious mind. It may not be easy but it’s worth the effort of having to bring out the best in us through a revolutionary technique of self hypnosis.
