Many Baby Boomers find themselves alone at a time when they are ready to fully enjoy life. If they are a parent, often their children are at an age where they are no longer as dependent on them. Baby Boomers may be at the prime of their career and are established enough to do a lot of the things that they’ve wanted to do, but do they really want to do it alone?

Regardless of what people say about being single, most want to be in a loving, established relationship. While some singles will jump into the first relationship that comes their way, others become very jaded and guarded. They don’t want to show their vulnerability at the risk of getting hurt again, so it’s easier to say they don’t want a relationship, and who can blame them?

So here you are in your Boomer years possibly with grown kids and maybe even grand-kids, so what are you going to do? Are you vowing to stay alone for the rest of your life or are you willing to take another chance? Not being in a relationship doesn’t mean that you are lonely. Some people are genuinely happy on their own. You may be fortunate enough to have a supportive family and friends, but not everyone does. Even some of those that do have grown kids often find them making their own lives far away, so it is almost like being alone.

Are you are thinking of testing the waters and wondering how can you meet new people without any agenda? If you enjoy sports you could join an activity group where they arrange events such as skiing, sailing, hiking, and golf. If you don’t know how to swing a golf club you can learn how, try the medicus trainer.

If sporting activities is not your thing you can join groups that offer other types of activities, like book clubs, discussion groups, photography, visiting art galleries etc. A great way to find local groups is at www.meetup.com here you will probably find a variety of groups in your area. You may consider joining a choir, or take classes on oil painting for beginners, or maybe a beginner guitar lesson, cooking classes etc. Even if you don’t meet Mr or Mrs Right you could make some new friends to have fun with.

If you’ve already made up your mind that you want to meet someone for a serious relationship, you may decide to try internet dating. It seems to be the most popular means of meeting potential people for a relationship. But be warned, you have to be extremely careful. You really don’t know who you are chatting with online. Without a doubt there are predators online only too anxious to take advantage of sincere, honest people. Make a point of getting to know the signs of these dishonest individuals. They will often be from away somewhere, even if you have requested profiles in your own area. They are often good looking and well dressed. They use other people’s photos and information or just make something up that sounds good. If they have a profile that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. They usually show they have professional careers, like engineers and other high profile careers with a high income.

Ladies, if they look like a G.Q. model, be suspicious, men too watch for the unrealistic pictures and profiles. Some will have the same picture elsewhere but have different names. Watch for the way they write a message. Do not part with your money regardless of what type of sob story you get. Some are very sophisticated and smart at what they do. They can go to great lengths to set you up if you are not aware. To make matters worse most people that get taken feel too embarrassed to talk about it, just as with many other scams. They feel stupid and humiliated because they trusted. In a perfect world we should be able to trust and rely on people telling the truth but sadly this isn’t so.

Many couples do meet on line, so there are also very genuine people out there, but go easy and be cautious! It may take a while to find the right person but if you do, the search will be worth it!
