"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way." ~W.H. Murray

In the quintessential success book, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill speaks about how essential reaching decisions is, in fact, lack of decision was listed at the top of the list for major causes of failure. Of all the highly successful people he interviewed,”every one of them had the habit of reaching decisions promptly and of changing these decisions slowly, if and when they were changed”.

What I have found is that often people are challenged around making decisions. Indecision is one of the biggest nails in the coffin of success, and can waste so much precious time…something that we cannot get back.

What occurs when people do not commit?

• Causes missed opportunities-Success requires being in the right place at right time and being aware of the opportunity before us.
• Causes us to distrust and doubt ourselves - “should I? shouldn’t I?” or “tell me what do” syndrome
• Ineffectiveness
• Wasted energy that could be channeled in powerful ways
• Creates lack of focus and clarity
• Comfort zone living can lead to boredom or atrophy-People settle and call it good enough
• Victim mentality can set in
• Continue to get the same results

I was very indecisive before I began to understand the high cost of procrastination and until I had a definite purpose. Understanding and purpose are keys to creating new results.

For years I felt “stuck” in a career I no longer loved and did nothing other than perhaps complain and “numb out.”

Once I made a decision about my career my entire life changed and it continues to expand and evolve every year.

People may be concerned about making the wrong decision, have fear about the results of their decision or be concerned about what others might think, especially loved ones, or lack a definite purpose.

If you are facing a decision currently and find you are not clear one thing you might do is get quiet and ask for some guidance. You cannot have a question without a solution.

Your answer does exist even if you cannot see it yet.

Looking outside yourself is not the answer although sometimes an outside prospective can be helpful. If you have trusted and supportive people in your life they can offer some insight. Ultimately however you are the one who must choose.

Until one is committed there is always ineffectiveness... What decision are you being called to make?
