There is Power in Volunteering

If you volunteer your time it will make you happy instantly. Happiness is like a perfume that you can't spray without someone smelling it. Anytime that one is productive and providing a service to another to bring about a positive change or encouragement, it is gratifying. Volunteering is powerful because it is a goal that is obtainable and grants immediate results. It is reinforced from the recipient of the service granted. There are more smiles, more laughter, and even more power obtained in volunteering because more people are happy.

Today can you imagine the effect of spending one hour of your time with someone to encourage them to be happy? Think about if you visited a children’s hospital and volunteer to read a book; it would mean the world to the children. What if you drop by a nursing home and dropped off a fruit basket and served them to the elderly. There would be unlimited happiness created because of those who care and volunteer.

The giving of your time is one of the most important commodities you have even though many of us conveniently say we don’t have time. Happiness must be chosen and it demands time. It means going the extra mile and volunteering in the community, schools, and helping family and friends. It is gratifying to be served but it is more gratifying to serve another.

Find what you are passionate about and share it with others. President John F. Kennedy said, “its not about what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country”.

Volunteer because it gives you a sense of purpose and meaning to your life. Power is gained by contributing to others, fulfilling our purpose, and creating a daily approach to being happy.
