In the following article, I seek to share with you the top causes of obesity! Hopefully, you will be able to benefit from it, and get rid of these possible causes and lose weight!

First of all, most people now lead a rather sedentary and 'lazy' lifestyle as compared to 20 years ago. As technology advances, cars and fast elevators are now present everywhere. This has made people turn to technology for convenience, and end up moving very little. Instead of taking stairs, people take the elevator. Instead of walking or cycling, they drive.

Our surrounding environment also plays a big factor. Most of us live in places populated with lots of fast food joints or benches. There are very few urbanized places left with fitness corners, parks or restaurants offering home cooked healthy foods anymore.

Next, most people do not realize how many calories they actually consume. Since most people also lead a rather sedentary lifestyle, but still continue taking lots of calories and meals, this results in a calorie surplus. Calorie surplus is the state where a person consumes more calories in the form of food than they are burning through the form of physical activities!

Truth be told, family history, or rather genes, actually do play a part on how a person looks. If both your parents are overweight, there is a higher chance you have a low metabolism and are overweight. If most of your family members are obese, then you should take more notice of the foods you are taking in, and incorporate a regular exercise regime.

If you are constantly deprived of your sleep, you will also find that you gain weight. According to researchers, a person who takes insufficient sleep will tend to crave for unhealthy foods high in sugar and refined carbohydrates content. Taking foods high in these will result in your blood sugar levels to spike, and subsequently, your metabolism to slow down drastically. This means that you will find losing weight much more difficult!

If you are a smoker, get rid of this habit! Smoking not only causes a lot of potential health related diseases. It also causes your metabolic rate to be lower, resulting in it being harder for you to lose weight,

Lastly, stress is another big cause of obesity. When you are stressed, you tend to overeat and before you know it, gain too much excess weight.
