We have all heard the famous quote ”Everything happens for a reason”, this phrase is most commonly spoken when tragedy has struck, it is a way of taking tragedies and looking for a route to triumph.

Though the quote is sometimes thrown around, there is much truth and opportunity found within it. Below we will discuss a few common examples of how major life obstacles can be opportunities to learn, grow and become an even better version of yourself.
Accident Happen

1.) Accidents Happen:Unfortunately, accidents are inevitable, and often leave passengers with physical scars as well as emotional suffering. If you and a friend were driving along and your friend misses a stop sign, resulting in a terrible collision, this is tragic.

Your friend ends up with multiple injuries, however, you miraculously come out of the crash unharmed. It would be easy for you to feel guilt, regret, fear, and many other negative emotions, but instead of letting this tragedy break you down, you can use it to build you up.

If you look at the situation, you should be thankful for your safety and protection. Use the accident to acknowledge that there is a reason and purpose you were fine, ask yourself, what can I do starting today, to honor your life in a more purposeful way?

2.) Down in The Dumps: After many fights and threats, your spouse filed for divorce. With the shock of reading the papers, you find out they also filed for full custody of your children.

This is enough to put anyone into a downward spiral, but not you. Ask yourself if you really want to continue being married to a person who is willing to threaten and hurt you with awful words. Do you think it is a good situation for the children to grow up in? The end of a marriage can also be the beginning of a new you.

Decide you will better yourself starting now, and you will not let anyone else hold the key to your happiness, or define your worth. Become the person you want to be, build strength, courage, and tenacity.

3.) Unemployment: You lost your job, the company you have worked so hard for decided it was time to let you go, they didn’t see you as one of their most valuable assets. This is a trying time for anyone. However, it also forces you to get creative to earn an income. If everything happens for a reason, what is the reason for this? Can you finally start your own business? Does it allow you to write the book you’ve been working on for 10 years?

4.) Losing Focus: You’re finally succeeding with excellence, your grades are wonderful, you are unstoppable, that’s when tragedy strikes. One of your parents passes away suddenly, and you don’t feel you can continue.

You drop out of school to focus on your grief. After a few months, you decide your beloved parent would have wanted you to succeed so you return to school, only to find your grades slipping and you struggling. Use this as a time to overcome, climb the ladder back to success and affirm that you will be better than ever.

In the event of an obstacle, always try to see the other side of the coin. It is a decision to see the bad or the good in every single tragedy you face. When you overcome anything in life, you grow stronger.
