What is this strange term? Pay Per Click ads are the "sponsored ads" that you'll see every time you search on Google or other search engines. They are usually on the right hand side of the search results and sometimes at the top of the listing.
It's called Pay Per Click because if you click on the ad, the advertiser gets charged a small amount for the effort. Click costs can run from a penny to a few dollars, all depending on the keywords used and how much competition there is for those words. Before you say, "I'm not paying a dollar every time someone clicks on my ad," there are some advantages. I know you can rack up some hefty charges in short order and some of my friends have spent a fortune on PPC. But they a made a small fortune back on the process as well.
The reason why is because you can make it on the first page of Google in hours instead of months because you're buying a spot in the results. Being on the first page of a Google search for jewelry, day after day, can bring in a global business of wealth like you've never seen. Often an advertiser will pay $3.00 for a click, just to make a $100 or more sale when the visitor gets there. It's just plain, good old fashioned advertising. And your chances of getting on the first page of Google without using PPC for a word like "diamond jewelry" is slim to none... unless you're Zales, Overstock or BlueNile.
Before you dive into PPC, know it's only for very serious marketers and not for the weak of heart. Your website has to be a perfect product machine that converts into sales easily. This is something that takes practice. If you are under prepared and dive in too early, you'll lose your shirt very quickly.
