PLR refers to Private Label Rights, or the license that enables the holder of a product to alter or modify the contents of that product and even substitute his/her name as the author.

There are pros and cons to using PLR content, but there is definitely a place for it in your business plan, if it's used correctly.

PLR products are an affordable alternative to actually creating your own goods. While there are many different types of PLR products, let’s take a look at PLR articles in particular since this is a product with endless potential.

The way it works is Private Label Rights articles are sold in bulk at a low price, for example 100 articles for $15 to $25. The price is so low because these products are sold to a lot of people so the cost is shared in common by the buyers.

The Good News

If you’re building an online business driving traffic to your site is critical to your success, and effective article marketing can greatly speed things along. Of course it takes a lot of time to write enough articles to make a difference. You can always outsource some of your article writing, but even at just $10 per article the cost can add up quickly.

PLR products are inexpensive and they open doors to many different opportunities, so it is worth at least considering them as a supplement to your marketing efforts.

Here are just a few examples of what you can do with PLR content to build your online business and make money.

• Posting your PLR content at article directories
• Using it as website content
• Breaking it up into blog posts
• Bundling it and selling or giving it away as bonuses
• Posting it in eZines and using in autoresponders
• Using it as a marketing article
• Using it to create an E-Report/E-book with affiliate links
• Using PLR eBooks as bonus giveaways and prizes

And here’s the “But . . .”

Ok, so it's obvious there’s plenty of potential with PLR content, but there are two things to keep in mind before you start searching for products.

1. Make no mistake about it, you will want to invest some time polishing your PLR content to make it your own and feel good about it representing your business . . . at the very least adding keywords for your niche, checking facts and maybe even correcting grammar and spelling.

2. PLR products are sold in bulk. Without taking the time to learn how to select PLR packages and doing the proper research to locate a qualified, ethical seller, and you risk finding . . .

• The quality of the products offered is questionable; the information is outdated; links to resource references are broken, etc.
• A lack of variety or that all of the products you’ve found so far cater to a niche unrelated to your own.
• You join a member’s site thinking this will prevent the above, only to find it’s disorganized, making it difficult to find products and has ended up being a big waste of time.

Still, by knowing your niche market and investing a little time on research, finding high quality private label rights products is not difficult. And these challenges really are no different than those facing anyone going into a new business – do your homework, know your market, develop your skills.
