After reaching the desired body weight, calories consumed per day may be increased gradually, without crossing 2,000 net (i.e. burned calories from exercise minus consumed calories). Combined with increased physical activities, low calorie diets are thought to be most effective on weight loss in the long-run, unlike crash diets, which can achieve short-term results or weight loss, at best. Physical activity or exercise could greatly enhance the efficiency of a diet. The healthiest weight loss regimen, therefore consist of a balanced diet and moderate physical activity or exercise. Furthermore, there are many techniques that are applied on weight loss, the least intrusive method on weight loss recommended are adjustment in eating pattern and increased exercise. The "WHO" recommend the combination of reduced processed food high in saturated fats, sugar and salt and caloric content of the diet with an increase in physical activity. An increase in fiber intake is also recommended for regulating bowel movements. Other methods or weight loss include drugs and supplements that decrease appetite, block fat absorption or reduce stomach volume. Bariatric surgery may be used in case of severe obesity. Two common bariatric surgical procedure are gastric bypass and gastric binding both of which are effective in limiting intake of food by reducing the size of the stomach, both has its own surgical procedures and risks, that need to be considered in consulting a physician. There are other advanced weight loss methods and programs available. For permanent weight loss all these changes in diets and exercise need to be permanent, the weight loss industry is a very big profitable venture for anyone that goes into it.
