There are a number of surgical procedures that fall under the category of bariatric treatment that have added to the possibilities of successful weight loss treatment especially meant for patients that are severely obese and for who any other forms of weight loss treatments have failed to deliver results. Bariatric surgery is highly recommended for patients that can be considered to be seriously overweight; they include procedures such as gastric bypass surgery and gastric banding that case persons to feel satiated sooner than normal thus helping them to start losing tremendous amounts of weight.

However, after someone has gone through a period of weight loss and especially when it has happened over a short period of time such as when they have undergone bariatric surgery in India, the result will be a large amount of loose skin that remains in the region around the stomach. There are usually some follow-up surgical procedures that can be used to remove this loose skin. One such procedure is known as abdominoplasty and which is also referred to as tummy tuck in layman’s language.

Once someone is successfully done with bariatric treatment and they become uncomfortable with the excessive skin in their belly, the bariatric surgeon can recommend an abdominoplasty. A reconstructive surgeon will make an incision from the hipbone all the way to the belly; the incision is normally made in such a way that it can be hidden even by a brief bikini bottom. The doctor will normally complete the treatment by removing the lose skin in the lower abdomen by cutting it above the belly button. There are other limited forms of this procedure that bring the incision to below the belly button but this isn’t common with patients that have undergone bariatric surgery in India.

The process of abdominoplasty goes far beyond the removal of loose skin after undergoing bariatric treatment; once the loose skin has been removed, the surgeon will go on and sew the abdominal muscles tightly together with the result being a flatter stomach and giving the patient a strong core. For most patients who may have been formerly overly obese, the fascia that covers the abdominal wall will almost always have loosened as a result of the pressure from the visceral fat. Because this is not always the case, this kind of tummy tuck may not be recommended for all bariatric treatment patients.

Once the procedure has been completed successfully, the surgeon is going to fit the patient with a drainage tube that will help to drain excessive fluids from the points of incision; these tubes will remain in place for about two weeks before they are removed by the doctor. Recovery time for bariatric surgery patients will differ but a patient who is more active physically will always heal faster.
