Itchy scalp comes from many different scalp conditions. Unfortunately, many people of all ages are affected by this unpleasant condition. Three of the most common causes are folliculitis, scalp seborrheic dermatitis, and contact dermatitis.
Some scalp bumps or scalp acne are caused by folliculitis. The head becomes too dry with this condition. If the scalp is too dry the hair follicle will remain open allowing bacteria or yeast to become trapped. This will cause bumps and pimples to appear on the scalp. Folliculitis is a very itchy and uncomfortable condition.
Seborrheic dermatitis comes with scalp itch and small white flakes along with white or yellowish scales that form on the scalp. These scales often cover red irritated skin. This condition can be pretty severe for some people. It can also show up on other areas such as the face, the ears, and the chest.
Contact dermatitis is very common condition. It is an allergy reaction or irritation to something that has come into contact with the scalp. The most common cause is chemicals products. Chemicals can be found in many shampoos, straightener, perms and other hair products. The majority of hair products that you can buy at the store are actually full of chemicals. These chemicals make the head dry and itchy. Sometime contact dermatitis starts from other irritants in the environment or food that are ingested.
Balance is the best way to remedy conditions that cause itchy scalp. Chemicals in many shampoos and conditioners that are supposed to help will only make things worse. Natural ingredients, like zinc, thyme, rosemary, emu oil, and jojoba oil, that balance the scalp, are the best way to cure an itchy scalp.
