Why More People Are Staying On The Ground This Summer
Written by Jason Hall
Flying is not the idea way to travel as it once was in a less hectic and simpler time. The air carriers have consistently justified in their minds reasons for upping their once budget friendly fees and rates and destination ports to a level that many families of four cannot afford. Some people attribute these changes to nothing more than greed. Regardless of what the reasons are, it is no longer economically viable for many families to use this form of transportation for vacation purposes simply because this expense is usually higher than the rest of the vacation expenses combined and out of reach.
In the current economy, most people believe that this cost is not worth it and would rather save time and money by driving to and from their destination and have more money to spend on the more luxurious aspects of their holiday. After all, your holiday is supposed to be about enjoying yourself not worrying about every dime you are spending.
The cost of operating a airline company is being passed on to the customers and the cost is rising every day. Spirit is a airline that recently announced that carry on bags that were too big to fit under the seat would be charged extra and it could possibly be as much as $100 per bag or item for anything stored in the overhead compartments. There has also been buzz that using the airplane restroom while on board might soon have a price tag attached.
Companies will always charge for their services because that's just what they do and we expect them to. However the up turn in rate increases seem to be much higher than can be justified to their customer base. This is resulting in airlines losing business in noticeable record numbers. Many former flyers are choosing to use their own vehicle to get where they need to go or rent a vehicle for the vacation or holiday planned trips. They are simply refusing to pay the new charges that airlines are passing on to their customers. Many companies should never forget they can price themselves out of the market.
If you feel you are being limited to very few vacation or holiday options; think again. Do a few quick Google searches about your area and state or an adjoining state or city and you will be pleasantly surprised at the long list of new things and places you never knew existed or can do very inexpensively and close to home. You don't have to rely on the airlines to have a great vacation with your family, nor will you have to put up with the exorbitant hike in airline ticket prices as well as service related fees. You do have very viable options that don't include a airplane ride to anywhere, leaving more money in your pocket for a well deserved road trip. Enjoy your summer!
