A house will only be as strong as its foundations.
You need to remember this, next time you’re trying to rely on your willpower to manifest a positive change in your life.
What is the foundation of that willpower of yours?
Well, let me explain.
Willpower acts on logic, and it works with your conscious mind. For example, if you’re planning on losing 20 pounds within the next 3 months you are going to have to make the conscious effort of staying on your diet and exercise routine.
If you’re planning on writing a book in 6 months you are going to have to consciously discipline yourself to write a certain amount of words each day during that time frame.
Now you’re going to say, what’s wrong with that?
On the surface, nothing is wrong with this, but if you are relying on your willpower alone your plan is standing on weak ground.
Why?
Because anything that is based on the conscious mind alone doesn’t stand a chance against what has been programmed into our subconscious mind. Because it’s the subconscious mind that runs the show.
This is why you see some people losing a lot of weight, having made a tremendous conscious effort, using their willpower to do it, but eventually gaining it all back.
This is why you hear of people winning a million dollar in the lottery and losing it all within two years.
Their subconscious mind got the last word, eventually. It’s the subconscious mind that will dictate what happens in the end.
So, when you’re using your willpower to create a drastic change in your life, unless you’ve made sure that your subconscious mind is in agreement with your what you want to accomplish consciously, not only you are going to struggle more to accomplish what you want, but even if you manage to do it, it won’t last for long.
Your subconscious mind is going to sabotage your results so you can get back to your comfort zone.
Why is it the case?
The Subconscious Mind doesn’t Work on Logic
Unlike your willpower which is managed by your conscious mind, your subconscious mind doesn’t work on logic.
The subconscious mind doesn’t make any difference between right and wrong because that’s not its job. The job of the subconscious mind is to protect you, but only assuming that it’s been programmed correctly, to begin with.
It works pretty much like a computer. As long as your computer is programmed for what it’s supposed to do everything will work fine, but as soon as there’s a virus in that computer it’s going to act in an unfavorable way for you.
The truth of the matter is that most of us have endured some negative experiences and teachings when our subconscious mind was most vulnerable, which is during the first to first and half decade of life.
The time frame where our subconscious mind is being programmed.
That little girl who was told she was fat as a child, will subconsciously learn that she’s fat and that’s “normal” to be fat. Unless she reprograms that belief as an adult she will have a very hard time to keep her weight down.
The person who was taught that they were meant to be poor because that’s how they grew up will have a very hard time to be able to keep a large amount of money even if it’s brought to them on a platter like winning the lottery.
These are just two simple examples for the sake of helping you to understand how it works, but there are many more shades of negative programming of course.
Your Willpower can only be as Efficient as your Subconscious Programming
Next time you want to accomplish something big in your life using your willpower, you need to make sure that your subconscious mind agrees with what you want consciously because the subconscious mind always wins.
If both your willpower and your subconscious mind programming are on the same track, however, you can accomplish great things.
