Honestly, It’s Not About the Horse! Do you have a clear goal in mind of where you want to be? Do you have a clear direction of how to get there? Did your market change, but your Business Strategy didn’t change with it? We’ve all been there:

I remember lying on my back in the dirt about 10 feet lower than when I started with my left ankle twisted quite painfully. A portion of the over 3-foot jumper fence I was supposed to be on the other side of (still on my horse) was poking me in the back. My thoroughbred, Harley, was nowhere in my immediate sight (who says horses are stupid?). My trainer at the time, Colonel Russell was looking at me and said “Well, just get up and go around again”. Yikes!

Now you have to keep in mind that my trainer Colonel Russell is infamous in the International Equestrian world. He has competed in three Olympic Games as a rider (winning the Bronze medal in 1952 in Helsinki, Finland) and coached six Olympic competitions as Chef d’Equipe for the U.S. Modern Pentathlon team, among many other accomplishments.

All that being said, Colonel Russell’s infamous quote when one falls off (or is catapulted off) their horse is “Well, just get up and go around again”.

Because it’s NOT about the horse! That’s what Colonel Russell was really saying. It really didn’t matter that I had been a Hunter/Jumper and was new to stadium jumping. It didn’t matter that I had a frequently difficult thoroughbred I was trying to jump over a convoluted 14- fence course as fast as possible. It wasn’t that at all. It was the degree of confidence I felt in myself that made all the difference.

SO, I got up, hobbled over to Harley who was at the other end of the stadium eating grass, pretending not to see me. I got on him and we went around again. He went over the fence. Because that’s what I chose to do. I HAD A CLEAR DIRECTION. And Harley knew it.

In any and all circumstances that you will encounter in your life, no matter how difficult, it’s all about YOU. It’s about how you feel about yourself, how you see yourself, your attitude, and how much confidence you have mustered for the task at hand. Which, by the way, you chose to do.

So – choose! Choose to wake up and be grateful. Choose to change your attitude when difficulties arise and just “get up and go around again”. Choose a direction that will create the prosperity you want! Simple, really.

(1) Realign your Business Strategy to your goals
(2) Implement your Strategy
(3) Track your progress.

You may need an expert to help you get back on course and give you the direction you need to move forward!
