“The world is filled with life, my daughter, and some of that life can distress you. Your vagina is filled with life, dearest granddaughter, and some of that life can distress you, too. “When you are too sweet, life can run over you. Stay a little on the sour side, wise sister; it is to your benefit. Bacteria, funguses, and parasites like it when you always say ‘yes,’ when you always agree; they thrive on your sweet acquiescence. When you put your needs aside and let others have their way, the life in your vagina magnifies your decision.
Herbal medicine is the medicine of the people. It is simple, safe, effective, and free. Our ancestors used - and our neighbors around the world still use - plant medicines for healing and health maintenance. It's easy. You can do it too, and you don't need a degree or any special training. Ancient memories arise in you when you begin to use herbal medicine - memories which keep you safe and fill you with delight. These lessons are designed to nourish and activate your inner herbalist so you can be your own herbal expert.
Herbal medicine is the medicine of the people. It is simple, safe, effective, and free. Our ancestors knew how to use an enormous variety of plants for health and well-being. Our neighbors around the world continue to use local plants for healing and health maintenance, and you can too. In your first lesson, you learned how to "listen" to the messages of plant's tastes. And you discovered that using plants in water bases (teas, infusions, vinegars, soups) - and as simples - allows you to experiment with and explore herbal medicine safely.

June is the month for brides. And roses are the flowers of love. So I think it fitting to focus on roses this month. Don't you? Not only are roses beautiful, they are good medicine and fine food.
The dark months are a time of rest and renewal, not a time of high energy. The fairies return to their underground homes at Halloween and return aboveground on May Day. Give in to the slower pace of the winter. Expect less of yourself; enjoy more time in bed. Stop fighting the dark. Let it be deep and nourishing. Before electric lights, humans slept twelve hours a day during the winter. Recognize the softer energy of contemplation and enjoy it, just as you do the active energy of summer.
Winter is coming. So are colds and the flu. Here are some tips for preventing these viral illnesses. And for getting well fast if you do get sick. Preventing colds and the flu can be summed up in three words: Wash your hands. The viruses that cause colds and the flu most readily enter our bodies by means of our hands. Wash your hands after shopping. Remind your children to wash their hands as soon as they come home from school. A little "hysterical hygiene" goes a long way to keeping colds at bay.
No to all licensing of herbs and herbalists. Never. No way. Ask the midwives of North America. They fell for "let's regulate ourselves before the big boys do." And they regulated themselves out of existence. There are no midwives left, according to Jeannine Parvati; only medwives. I agree. Let us learn from their mistake. No licenses for herbalists.

Youthful long life, promises the heroic tradition, is given to those who follow the rules, atone for their wrongs, and get clean. It is especially important in the Heroic tradition to cleanse the body inside and out: to purify the body with austerities and sweats, to clean out toxins with fasts and purges, to clean the blood, clean the liver, and above all, clean the colon.

Message from Susun: http://wisewomanherbalezine.com/wordpress/2012/01/17/january-17-2012/ Dear Friends of the Green, “Grebble” is the word I was taught to use to refer to the process of removing leaves from the stalks of herbs. Most culinary herbs are grebbled, since the stalks are unpalatable. Infusion herbs are not grebbled, as the stalk contains important nutrients. (Red clover stalk can be ten times richer in phytoestrogens than the flower.)

Greetings from Susun~January 3, 2012 http://wisewomanherbalezine.com/wordpress/2012/01/02/january-2-2012/ Dear friends of the green, This month I wish to draw your attention to the mint family, which is well known for its many delicious-tasting, and strongly-scented plants. Most of the mint family plants are excellent anti-spasmodics, anti-infectives, and nourishers of the nervous system.
Read the entire Wise Woman Herbal Ezine here: http://wisewomanherbalezine.com/wordpress/ Greetings from Susun Flash! The bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) is blooming. By the time you read this, the flowers will be gone. That’s why it is classified as a spring ephemeral (something that passes quickly). Like the coltsfoot (Tussilago farafara) featured last week, bloodroot blooms before the leaves unfurl. It is too late now to dig its roots/rhizomes; but if you intend to, mark where it grows now, when it is easy to spot.

Have we put up infused oils of mullein, plantain, and Hypericum?

Barefoot might be the better choice, as we are going to go to some wet places this week and next week too. Greetings from Susun Weed~ http://wisewomanherbalezine.com/wordpress/2012/01/10/january-10-2012/ Dear friends of the green, Mint honeys are a delicious way to prevent and treat winter miseries: the flu, colds, and coughs especially. I usually make mine just before the frost takes down the tender mints, but January is not too late to get some started if you have access to hardy mints. (See last week’s green reports for some choices.) Overwintering rosemary, sage, thyme, and lavender appreciate a haircut about now, for lush spring growth.
