I have been asked the other day whether people need to go to a psychotherapist or counsellor to recover from sexual abuse. I think that is a really good question. Does a person need therapy to heal? I don't think it is necessary to go to a psychotherapist or counsellor. However, they need ...

One significant problem with the inner elephant is that it hinders people's ability to see reality. Most individuals perceive the world based on their needs and biases, rather than on exte al events. The inner executive must deal with the inner elephant's tendency to judge others and the self, to create illusions, and to defend the self. Daft calls these tendencies the "internal judge," the "internal magician," and the "internal atto ey."
What is our universal language? By universal I mean, the language we all understand. By we, I mean not just the human species but also the animal species. Let's imagine for a moment what goes through our dog's head when we speak in a commanding voice. The command in our voice communicates a message to the dog. He learns to stop and pay attention to what we are saying. Often he understands what to do. Let's imagine for a moment when we communicate sadness to someone who does not speak our language.
People skills are simply how you communicate with people, whether they be friends, family, work colleagues, clients etc. Before we move on to explaining the different areas of people skills, let us remind you of one point: they are vital for long-term success and happiness in both personal, career and business life. It is usually those people who have excellent communication skills who have more fulfilling relationships and rise to the top of their chosen fields. n nFor many

Developing this ability and embedding it as a habit will do more to assure continued success and achievement in your life than any other skill you can possibly learn. And yet many of us still don’t do it, otherwise we’d all already be thin, rich, in love and healthy. I'd like to make a suggestion. Don't make any new year's resolutions. Instead make a plan!

I was in a seminar today on networking strategies. It was produced by a very reputable organization. The invited speaker, an author and self-proclaimed expert in the area of networking, was sharing his strategies. He was funny and witty and quick on his feet. He used the word "stalking" as a strategy a few too many times for my comfort zone and proclaimed the value of picking where you go to church specifically to "stalk" your potential clients.
Riddle me this: What technique works as well with a negative person at work as it does with a two year old at home? Answer: The Polarity Pattern! What happens when you tell a two-year-old to go to bed when the older kids are still up, or you tell a negative coworker that things ‘aren’t so bad?’ The conversation descends along these lines. You ask a person to do something. You ask nicely. You are reasonable. And then they say, “I don’t want to (do what you want them to). To which you reply, “But you have to do it.” And it’s straight downhill from there.
Just the other day someone made the statement that child sexual abuse is normal because it happens so oft en. Maybe it’s only a problem because we (society) make such a big deal out of it. Well, that was quite a challenge that turned quickly into a heated discussion. I can understand though, ...
THE BENEFITS OF BEING GRATEFUL 1. Grateful souls are closer to God. Get closer to God when you are grateful. The soul that is always grateful lives in closer touch with God than those who never look to God in thankful acknowledgement. The mental attitude of gratitude draws the mind into closer touch with the source from which the blessings come. 2. The whole mind benefits from gratefulness.

We have all probably been in a situation where we do not know what to say. Once we have broken the ice and began speaking things usually get a lot easier, but whatever situation you are in, whether it be a conversation in a bus line with a complete stranger, talking with your siblings at a party, a first date with someone you are trying to impress or simply talking with an old friend you maybe haven’t seen in a while, you can often be stuck for conversation starters. The Yes "I am jobless" Camp by Faizan Laghari Jobless for over 10 yearsr I can only speak for myself in this regard. The fact of the matter is that I haven't had a job for 10 years now. Definition of Jobr As I always explain in my presentations, a "job" in my opinion is where I go for an interview, get hired, get a job description, and am told this is my department, my team, my manager and my boss (who I'll probably never meet often). I'm also told that XYZ is my salary and benefits each month.
Learning Visual Basic for Applications has its benefits. Visual basic for applications is a programming language used with excel to help excel perform certain tasks with worksheets that you have created that have data on them. It is because of the programming language that you can create macros which are nothing more than blocks of code in VBA that tell excel to perform a task you want it to do. This benefits you when trying to meet deadlines for your company and allows for m
During the 2008 presidential debates, the Wall Street journal reported that Michelle Obama told Barack to get out of his head and into his body-to sit back and let his feelings flow. In the language of Whole Body Consciousness (WBC) that I have sketched out in my book, What's Your Body Telling You, I would say that Michelle catalyzed the Body Intelligence (BQ for short) of the future President of the United States. Sometimes called somatic intelligence, BQ is crucial for many
BRICKBATS AND BOUQUETS Whoever coined the expression brickbats and bouquets summed up the nature of life in these wise words. Or as Dale Carnegie once said: No one kicks a dead dog. Kicks, also known as brickbats, are the jibes from critics or jealous people all too ready to comment adversely or negatively.
Years ago I uncovered a definition of communication that I doubt would appear in Wikipedia. I like it because of its simplicity as well as its inherent complexity. Communication is behavior that transmits meaning from one person to another person This definition tells us that we cannot communicate without behavior. We must do something to communicate. It also tells us that communication does not happen unless meaning is transmitted. Of course what I mean and what you think I mean pose two entirely different things.
A good golf game can make your whole day. A bad one can … well, who wants to think about that? The truth is a bad day on the course can really bring you down. Depending on how you handle defeat, it can cause you to isolate your friends, fight with your spouse, be short with your children and make bad business decisions. And anyone who tells you to “lighten up” or remember that it’s “only a game” is just asking for trouble!
Technology, in the form of phones and computers, has become a kind of ubiquitous front door for customers to use any time and any place where they have the desire for a product or service. At least in theory, technology gives customers a more personal help desk than they are likely to find face to face in the busy rush of modern business. If you answer the phone as part of your organization’s service to others, that service is on the line.

The Susan Boyle Phenomenon! Why has UK (Scottish) Britain’s Got Talent Contestant, Susan Boyle, become such a huge worldwide success almost ove ight? Is she really such a phenomenal talent as many claim, including usually harsh American Idol/Britain’s Got Talent judge, Simon Cowel? Well… Perhaps there’s something else adding to the incredible rise of Miss Boyle, something far more deep-seated that has very little to do with the sound of her voice - but everything to do with “her voice” in the sense of what kind of message her story sends out.

My message to all that will hear it, is don’t let your limitations define you… Don’t focus on what you don’t have…use what you do have.rn~Victoria Arlen An excellent student and natural athlete, Victoria dreamed of becoming an Olympic swimmer from the time she was 5 years old. Great conversations are built on a foundation of awareness, which includes: Emotional intelligence: an awareness of emotions in oneself and others that helps people navigate situations. Motivators: values, which inform what people want to talk about. Style: how people approach communication. Perhaps on the surface, emotion has no place in business, but that is unrealistic. People are influenced by emotions, but star performers and great communicators have some mastery of those emotions.
Motivation, Reinforcement, Support and Accountability Behavior change is not merely a matter of knowledge or skill. If that were true, then all the information campaigns on how to improve your health would have made behavior-related illnesses a thing of the past. And birth control information would prevent teen pregnancies. Sadly, many people fail to create lasting change in their behavior and will repeat their failures over and over again in their lives. Have you ever tried to break a habit? Organizations, like people suffer from the same difficulty in shifting their behavior.
Believe it or not, minding your ps and qs really does make a difference in business these days. To illustrate: A client who recently hired us told me that he had spoken with a number of potential firms and that while every one of them could do the job, in the end, they picked us because our team had the best manners by far. He added, and I quote, "We always hire for manners because everything else can be learned on the job."

The Secrets to Managing Difficult Training Session Attendees Have you ever kicked off your shoes after leading a particularly difficult training session and wanted to just give up! Leading training sessions can be great when you’ve got an energized group that’s ready and willing to contribute to the discussion, asks probing questions, and absorbs the material like a sponge. Unfortunately, most trainers have had the grueling experience of dealing with difficult attendees that seem to thwart the best laid plans.

Economic systems based on currency circulation facilitate the development of human society. Whatever we personally think of this medium of exchange, can it of itself generate happiness? Information is a form of power. With the increased flow of information and technological intrusion in society, you're all but ensured of facing a constantly growing array of work-related expectations. You can be sure that these higher expectations, especially when you have the same finite resources, will lead to more stress. The more tools of technology that are created to assist you, the more you are asked to do; however, even with these increased pressures to do more, it is possible to work with greater efficiency.
There is something strange about us human beings, the naked apes. Ever wondered why we are generally so hairless, compared to our closest ape relatives? Not only that, we are distinguished from our cousins by being large brained and bipedal. We cry salty tears, have sweat glands, and a layer of subcutaneous fat from birth. We require relatively large amounts of water to remain hydrated. What’s more, we swim, speak and have aquiline noses. Why?

Possibly the most common question people have when they seek help for their communication skills is what makes good conversation topics. So many times people worry about what to talk about, even when they are in the middle of a conversation on the abyss of an embarrassing silence. The important thing is not to panic or worse, run away; pauses are a good thing in conversation. They give people time to think. But if you feel that there are too many embarrassing silences in yo
