About Carol Loftfield – Her Evolving Journey
Living in a remote Alaskan village, Carol is connected to nature and all things spiritual. She conducts monthly, multimedia performances combining her insight, poetry, story telling, art and music—altogether transporting the audience to an inner world of beauty and mystery.
Carol is an award winning educator and author with a Masters of Education degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and an equivalent BA in Psychology. She has been teaching for 20 years and has 10 years of experience as a multimedia performer. Carol’s iBook and website feature beautiful nature photography taken by her while living in Alaska and visiting Hawaii. Her life purpose is to inspire and guide creative reflection for healing and spiritual growth.
For more than a decade, Carol has been inspiring, healing and nurturing people of all ages through her Creative Reflections multimedia performances and her Art Meditation and Wellness workshops. Using her own original art, Carol has created a unique technique she calls shifting perspective artwork that encourages the viewer to look at the artwork from every angle and search for images that emerge from different perspectives that may reveal flowers within birds or a butterfly within a leaf.
Carol’s path to creating this unique healing art form began when her sister Jan contracted a rare form of cancer. Carol created a set of relaxation and healing techniques using a combination of art, inspirational poetry, stories and music to help Jan heal. Jan’s cancer went into remission and she began sharing Carol’s healing materials with various cancer groups.
In time, Jan’s cancer returned and before she died, she asked Carol to make her Creative Reflections and Art Meditation and Wellness techniques available to others. After her sister’s death, Carol retired from teaching and created a Wellness Through The Arts graduate level teacher training class at the University of Alaska in Anchorage and she offered workshops and classes in Anchorage for various school districts.
Realizing a need in her own community for her healing arts program, she dedicated two year of community service through AmeriCorps, a federal agency whose mission is to improve lives and strengthen communities through service and volunteering. Carol provided Wellness Through the Arts workshops for adults and after school programs for children in her small Alaskan village.
After her two years of service, AmeriCorps provided Carol with an Education Award and she chose to spend this summer attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Pacific New Media program to add the finishing touches to her remarkable interactive iBook and fulfill her sister's request of making her inspirational healing techniques available to many others.
