Have you ever thought of yourself as your most valuable asset? Think about this for a minute…where would you be without you? We find time to take care of the other valuable assets in our lives – our families, homes, relationships, etc. Most of us have been brought up to believe that taking ...
It was 18 years ago when I brought home my first baby from the hospital. I’ll never forget the day. It was July 2, 1991 and I slowly walked out of the hospital with no shoes because my ankles were so swollen. Feeling the pain of my episiotomy, I placed my son Kai in a car seat we borrowed from a friend. It wasn’t an infant car seat like the ones we have today, so the huge car seat swallowed up all 6 pounds, 14 ounces of him. Looking at his tiny body all scrunched up, and thinking about how I had already failed him, I burst into tears.
Self- care and me-time are simply not indispensable. In fact, making time for yourself is actually an essential ingredient if you want to thrive in your life and your business. Here are four steps to creating time for yourself and the benefits they can lead to in your business and your life: 1.Examine your mindset about me-time. Are you still struggling with an inner critic who tells you that self care is a pie-in-the-sky luxury?
Goal setting isn’t easy and I am not here to tell you it is. Success is something you earn after putting in the effort to plan, refine and execute the vision you have created for life. Do not fool yourself into believing that with just a plan of action it will be a smooth road to living your dreams. You will experience roadblocks, obstacles and resistance from all around you. The feeling can be overwhelming and make you want to throw in the towel. The truth is most people do quit as soon as they experience their first set back or complete utter failure. They just give up and quit.
Can you count the times you have... - stopped smoking and some time later started again - attempted to get rid of unhealthy weight and quit the program before you got to your goal - reached a healthy weight goal then, over time, gained it back - stopped abusing a legal or illegal drug or alcohol and returned to the habit - started an exercise program, got in shape and loved it but gradually did it less and less until you stopped - stopped the behavior that was sabotaging your relationship but let it creep back in again - swore off cussing (pun :)), succeeded, then started again - fil
I often have conversations with my clients about their feeling that they no longer fit their current career, or it doesn’t fit them. Sometimes there is a feeling of bewilderment, of frustration or even anger. There you are having worked so hard, and probably studied too, and after all this ...
Taking your love of photography on the road is one of the really exciting assignments a photographer can get. Whether you are going out into nature to photograph a great sunrise, a phenomenal river or to capture some other wonder of nature or if you are going to an urban area to get photos that tell the story of a people, the safari nature of the trip is the same. Safari is a good name for such a trip because like that hunter going into the deep jungle to bag big game, you ar
Our brain is an amazing organ. Once believed to be static and hard wired, scientists have now proven otherwise through the study of neuroplasticity. Scientific research has established that our brain is creating new brain cells and forming new connections every day. Our brain is malleable to our thinking. You can change your life by changing your thoughts which in turn can change your brain. Our brain consists of three parts that function together as one system: • The conscious mind • The subconscious mind • The unconscious mind.
It’s the Release That Teaches! “That’s not fair!” “You promised!” “Why won’t you listen to me?” “Why should I change, what about You?” *Are you tired of the same old stuff day in and day out? *Are you sick of being the only one who is changing? *Do you wish people would simply “Get It”? *Do you want to Let Go of past, present and future limiting thoughts and feelings so you can move on with your life? “How is your Let Go!!!
Emotional balance is considered mastered when our mind, body and spirit are in line with each other and we are in a space where we have done our inner work and we feel at peace. We need to pay attention that all situations and life issues are resolved, or at least aired, and pay attention to the feelings that emerge from within us. Many times our emotional balance is ignored and passed off as stress, discomfort, boredom and distraction; and we try and fix it by all sorts of
How you cope with problems, is greatly effected by your past The coping style which you learned as a child is generally same in later life. If you learned that kicking and screaming loudly enough will result in your mom or dad caving in and letting you "have it now" you are likely to experience severe defeat in your adult life as not everyone else responds like mom or dad did to such behavior. On the other hand, if your mom or dad were firm, soothing and encouraging, you are likely to have developed a different mind-set when faced with inconveniences and potential set-backs.
Have you ever noticed just how easy it can be to find yourself focusing on what you haven't yet accomplished? Do you know what I mean? You're lying in bed at night thinking about your to-do list and saying to yourself, "OH, I didn't get this done, and I didn't get that done either." Then to make matters worse, you pile on the pessimism and self-criticism with thoughts like, "Who am I kidding? I'm never going to catch up on this stuff.
Generally speaking, people are always excited about trying out something new. This is why newly opened bars and restaurants, for instance, tend to be a huge hit on their first few weeks of operation. Of course, people are curious about what they have to offer. Unless you are able to meet your customers’ expectations, you are likely to lose them instantly. The truth is that getting customers’ attention isn’t the most difficult aspect of marketing a business. What you will find more challenging is how you may keep them knocking on your door.
I struggled a bit this week on what I wanted to share with you. I place a high value on making sure I give you timely information that you can use right away to take your life and your business to the next level of fulfillment, happiness and success. On the one hand, I wanted to write about June being the halfway mark in your business and now is the perfect time to take a mid-year inventory of what’s working and what’s not working so you can make the shifts necessary to meet your goals by the end of the year.
I was watching the holiday classic, "The Polar Express" with my children recently and in the movie, Tom Hanks, who plays the role of conductor, said to Billy as he exited the train, "It's not as important to know where the train is going as it is to make a decision to get on the train." Very wise words indeed. Getting in the habit of making decisions will be one of the best decisions you can make in 2012!
Do you have the time to stop overeating? To take control of emotional eating? To get on track with your healthy lifestyle goals? Lately I've been encountering many women who tell me they don't. I've been hearing from women who are incredibly frustrated with their eating habits, their weight gain, their lack of progress on important health goals. I've talked to women who fear their family history of diabetes or heart disease. I've talked to women who've even had weight loss surgery and are terrified because they are seeing the weight they've lost start to creep back.
How many times have you told yourself or someone else that you were going to get “it” done or you were going to show up? How often do you commit yourself to something important but “blow it” when it’s show time? I have a good one—How often do you tell yourself you’re going to TREAT yourself to that massage or get on that new exercise routine you committed to a year ago? I don’t know what hurts worse, disappointing myself or letting others down and looking foolish in front of them.r
Insomnia is an inability to sleep, not depending upon the number of hours which you sleep, but on the quality of your sleep and also on how you feel after you have woken. So, even if you are sleeping those ideal eight hours during the night and feel tired after the slumber, you may be experiencing insomnia. Most of the time people suffering from insomnia yield to medication as it provides fast results and is convenient. However, medicines can become addictive and a point is reached when you cannot do without them.
<img src="https://www.lifepurposeinstitute.com/wp-content/uploads/life-coaching-career.jpg" /> A life coach is someone who is professionally trained to help others realize their lives’ potentials and achieve their goals. If you’re toying with the idea of treading this noble career path, your intention is definitely in the right place. Not only can it be a lucrative niche, but it’s also a very fulfilling one as you get to touch the lives of others.
A few weeks ago, I went to a single dad event held by a non-profit organization. Upon leaving, all the single parents were given gifts to take home, some were food items. I was given a large package of hamburger patty meat. As I left, the lady handing the food to me said, "Just stick it in the freezer." When I got home, in typical A Clueless Mom fashion, that's EXACTLY what I did.
Spring is a great time to reassess, reorganize, and refresh. This year, instead of tackling your closets, I suggest you think about a thorough spring airing and cleaning of your life. Too often, busy lives lead us to patterns where we are simply following the bread crumb trail of our to-do lists and not taking the time to step back, gain some perspective, and revamp or refocus.
This article is all about personal responsibility. When it comes to living your life in alignment with who you are and what's important to you, it is imperative that you take responsibility for all aspects of your life. Feelings, responses, actions, reactions, choices -- these all fall under ...
Remember when you suddenly had a great idea? Think back. What was it? Do you remember what you did with that great idea (a 'great idea' is a goal in its infancy)? If you grabbed hold of it with both hands and feet and parlayed it into something fulfilling and wondrous, then you probably don't need to read further. But if you didn't, and possibly regret it, the following could shed some light. Depending on your personality you may have done one or more of the following: • Processed it and processed it and may still be thinking about it months later.
What lights you up inside? What can you spend hours doing that doesn’t feel like work? Now, how do you feel about your current job? If its easier for you, use a satisfaction scale of 1 (least satisfied) - 10 (most satisfied). Really think about it and decide if that number is how you want to rate your life. Career coaching can help you pick a career, increase your productivity, and get promoted. Reaching your full potential influences everything from your bank account to your level of happiness.

As a life coach, I help people gain clarity on what kind of life and work will make them happiest. Are you destined for greatness? Absolutely. So what's holding you back? You're familiar with where you are now. It's comfortable, yet you aren't really where you're supposed to be. You're not doing what you're supposed to be doing. You're not reaching the people who need you most. I'm a HUGE proponent of stepping outside your comfort zone. I've been fortunate to do some fun and exciting things when I've done it. I've studied abroad in Norway and volunteered in Africa. I've gone parasailing, skydiving, dog sledding and shark diving. None of those compared to what I did this past week.
Conference season for women entrepreneurs is in full swing! Over the next few weeks, I’m attending multiple events as a keynote speaker, as well as an attendee. This time of year is perfect to get out of the office and connect with potential business resources and new clients. The key is to be prepared for success. “Showing up” won’t get you the results you’re hoping for. The key is to show up with a strategy that works. Here are six strategies that are guaranteed to get you winning results when you attend conferences and events:
"Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.” - Johann Wolfgang Goethe We all have the same 24 hours in everyday, and the difference that makes the difference for each of us is how we choose to fill them.
I have a short story for you today. Once upon a time a lovely lady named Judith, sat gazing out her bay window at the fields, streams and mountains in the distance. She sighed at their beauty and lamented the fact that she just wasn’t happy even with her wonderful surroundings. She needed something more in her life, but she didn’t know how to go about getting it, didn’t know how to start. In fact, she didn’t even know what it was!
I have the opportunity to speak with scores of women around the globe about smart ways to grow a successful business. One of the best ways to grow your business and collapse your time frame is through joint ventures. A joint venture is where you and another business owner come together for an agreed upon period of time and collaborate on a project or product. You agree to share revenues and expenses associated with the specific project or product.
Passion is such a buzzword right now, so many times I have people come and say to me, if I only knew what my passion was I could change my life and be happy. It is like they are some big secret, something that is hidden from them that if they could only see everything would be great. Having specifically worked with passions for a while now I have to reveal a secret – your passions are not something that are hidden away from you, something to be discovered that you haven’t previously allowed yourself to see.
Are you looking for more ease in your life? Do you wish things flowed better? I don’t have a magic solution for you, but I do know a simple tool that, when leveraged, makes life smoother and more pleasant—and it’s free and at your fingertips. How about serving up a bit more gratitude? We all know that gratitude is a good thing. By gratitude, I’m talking about that deep peaceful sense of appreciation and thankfulness we feel for certain realities and people in our lives. Liberally and authentically applied, gratitude has the ability to work wonders.
If you have been watching the news, reading magazines, or even overhearing conversations while in line at the post office or grocery store, you may have heard about something called a “personal coach”. More and more people are turning to personal coaches each day; if you have ever wondered what ...
As a Personal Development Life Coach and Life Balance Expert, I am often asked "In this fast paced world we live in, what can I do for stress management? How can I consistently unwind, relax, revitalize my energy and bring more harmony into my life?" Although there are many ways to reduce stress, renew your energy and bring peace into your life, I always recommend beginning with the most reliable way to bring lasting balance into your life.
The deepest principle of human nature is the craving to be appreciated. William James We look to relationships to satisfy this craving. It's our natural state to be loving. Unfortunately with the busyness of our lives we forget what that natural state is. There is nothing better than a great relationship. You feel that you belong. You feel empowered. You feel an incredible aliveness. But ultimately we have to learn to have a great relationship with ourselves. When we do, it enriches everyone with whom we meet.
Everyone deals with struggles in life, things that happen which are out of our control. What is most important is how you confront these life struggles. Do you continue to live your life being miserable or do you take control, find your voice, and persevere? I, like all people in life, had my share of struggles. My biggest one was my battle with infertility. I call this a battle because the process was both physically exhausting and emotionally debilitating. My body had failed me. I felt like a failure to my husband, my family, and most importantly to myself.
Perfection is a topic that is near and dear to my heart because some where along the way I got the message to be perfect. The perfect person who did not make mistakes, who was the perfect weight, who wore the perfect clothes… I think you get the idea. How did that message to be perfect serve ...
What are your dreams, wishes and hopes? Do you desire a new romance, more money or a better job? How do you actually achieve that which you desire? It all comes down to what you truly believe. You may begin with a desire, but the fact is your beliefs are stronger than your desires. Your beliefs are creating your “reality” whether you know it or not. Let me explain.
The crash landing of US Airways Flight 1549 into the Hudson River was amazing. The airplane landed on the water in tact. All 155 passengers and crew survived. Many of the passengers of the flight recounted tales of order, selflessness and acts of bravery. All involved continue to tout the ...
A few days ago, I contacted a friend to ask for a referral recommendation for a big project I’m working on. My referral source responded quickly providing me with the informatio I needed. I was so excited to speak with this potential resource. I immediately and eagerly reached out by email. No reply. Within 48 hours, I made a second attempt via email and phone. No reply. Can you imagine how I felt?
With all my five years of learning about self development, simply put, it is all about our communications and relationships. Think about it, isn’t it all about our daily communications and our relationships with our boss, colleagues, subordinates, friends, spouse and children and parents? ...
It seems like everyone is far too busy. Too many things going on, places to be, details to remember, things to do. When we are busy to the point of exhaustion, we lose touch with who we are and what is important to us. We are on automatic pilot and don’t have time to think about what we want or what would make us happy. We just go-go-go onto the next thing without another thought. Are you wondering if this busyness is “normal,” or if things are too complicated in your life?
Who do you think you are? Werner Erhard said: You are not limited to the person you wound up being, the person you think you are. Who you currently know yourself to be is just a way of being. It is not who you are authentically. So who are you “authentically”? Ever contemplate ...
More than any other life skill time management is a weakness for most. A lot of my life coaching clients have goals to get better in this area. With social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn some users spend hours on these sites. What starts as minutes then turns into hours. With smartphones and tablets the mobile accessibility only adds to the fire. The average Facebook user alone spends 11 hours per month on the site. One out of every eight minutes on the internet is spent on Facebook. It is the biggest time dump known to man.
Last year an estimated seven millio Britons made a New Year’s resolution. But 25 per cent had given up within a week and 39 per cent of resolutions had been abandoned by the end of January. A new year is a good time for a new start, but keeping change going is harder than you’d ...
Your intuition is you as a soul communicating with your mind and body. It is those gentle nudgings that may occur to you as hunches, visual imagery, feelings, or maybe even whispers. When we talk about intuition, we are talking about information that is being passed to you that you would have ...
I had the best day with B. We decided to go to the zoo for the first time. Although the only thing I think he is really interested in are the fish, I still like showing him different things. I take him out of the stroller to point to an animal, and in a matter of seconds, he makes new friends with other passersby. He is just that type of baby. He makes me laugh. We stay less than two hours, and as we find the exit, he passes out.
I frequently encounter people who are on a quest to figure out their purpose in life. On a very fundamental level, your purpose in life is to breathe and everything else is a choice, including your purpose in life. Once you acknowledge that, other than breathing, everything in life is a choice, you can begin to fully appreciate the power of choice. Sometimes you may think that you have no choices, however, in reality, this is not so. Even in the most dire of situations you always have a choice. It could be to act, or not to act, which are both choices.
As an entrepreneur, you must be willing to spend your time and money on improving your business, but do you really know which of your investments are actually worth your resources?
