We human beings are dynamic creatures and our relationships are vibrant expressions of that dynamism. But problems can often arise, especially in long term relationships, when we fall into the habit of thinking we know – thinking we know what our partner thinks, will say, or will do in a given situation. We turn our mates and even ourselves into static, one-dimensional images instead of allowing the full range of our potential to be expressed in each moment.

Listening to the news this morning, I found myself feeling both saddened and angry at some minister I don't even know. He intends to burn the Quran, despite General Petreus' conce that such action will put U.S. troops in danger, despite Secretary Clinton's admonitions, despite the fact that one of the foundations of our country is religious freedom. Where to start? Of course, the only place to start is my primary area of influence, myself.
According to Chinese astrology February 4th, 2013 marks the Solar New Year and February 10th the Lunar New Year. As we say good bye to the black dragon of 2012 we welcome in the energies of little sister the black water serpent. Snakes are closely tied with the Dragon as they are said to have come to earth as a dragon who lost his wings and scales.
Defensive driving courses are available both in classrooms and on the internet. The online courses have the advantage that you can learn at your leisure and in the comfort of your home. Basically, defensive driving courses are designed to impart knowledge regarding the risk factors involved when you are driving, how to anticipate these risks, and what steps should be taken beforehand so that you stay out of danger. “Our lives are a mixture of different roles. Most of us are doing the best we can to find whatever the right balance is . . . For me, that balance is family, work, and service.” –Hillary Rodham Clinton
Another yoga rock star, John Friend, has fallen, see this NY TImes Article. The unfortunate truth about people in power is that they sometimes abuse that power. Initially, these abuses of power are not typically grand. They are small betrayals that can lead up to big abuses if left unchecked. And we, as students and teachers are all vulnerable when we ignore those small betrayals, when we trust our teachers more than ourselves.
Chinese New Year is very important to me. It is the tradition that we have a vacation to say goodbye to the past and have a brand new start for the Chinese New Year. It is quite like Christmas and New Year in the west. During that period of time, almost everyone is off and comes back home from different cities and countries. It is really a happy family time.
“Fortunate, indeed, is the man who takes exactly the right measure of himself and holds a just balance between what he can acquire and what he can use.” – Peter Latham
Neale Donald Walsch shared in âConversations with God â An Uncommon Dialogue â Book 1â that all actions are either fear-based or love-based. This appears to be such a limited list of options, but upon reflection it can bring powerful awareness. Walsch goes on to share âfear is the energy which contracts, closes down, draws in, runs, hides, hoards, harms. Love is the energy which expands, opens up, sends out, stays, reveals, shares, heals. Fear wraps our bodies in cl
Goal setting is huge in our culture. We are a future and accomplishment oriented society and many of us live only to see the next day’s task completed. But what happens when something gets in the way? How do you react when an obstacle is placed in your path to your goal? Do you throw up your hands? Wait? Study? Laugh? Give up completely?
I went to see my daughters for an all too brief visit not long ago. This trip landed smack dab in the middle of several stressors that aren't part of my usual routines; the car was having trouble, house repairs from storm damage were underway and some critters that were supposed to live outside were making their homes in my home. I was ready for a little break from all the doing and chaos.r
Think of the qualities you associate with a warrior. I think of ferocity of determination, one pointedness in attention, and definite strength. Now think of the yogic quality of ahimsa. Ahimsa is one of the yamas (restraints) in Patanjali’s sutras. It is usually translated as nonviolence or non-harming. It means that we won’t hurt other people, animals, or plants. On the outside, it seems contradictory to pursue nonviolence with a warrior mindset. Nonetheless, I don’t believe it is possible to do it otherwise.r
The very fence that couldnât keep the love out of Woodstock â69 now binds the Bethel, NY-based Alexy family together in spirit, as their unique line of accessories formed from the original Woodstock chain link fence continues the legacy of www.PeaceFence.com founder James Alexy. In 1969, the organizers of Woodstock realized the fences they had constructed around the Woodstock concert site on Max Yasgurâs dairy farm in Bethel, NY, couldnât possibly control the exuberan
Indian-American actress and singer Sheila Houlahan recently held a supporting role in the Warner Bros. feature film "The Little Things" opposite Academy Award winners Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto. In the film, Houlahan plays “Paige Callahan”, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks whose fate is ultimately bound to Kern County Deputy Sheriff Joe “Deke” Deacon (Washington). Houlahan uses her platform as an actress to address the need for affordable, accessibl
When you get older and work for a period of time or when you are not satisfied with your income, you definitely would like to increase your income no matter how. Either you have a part-time job to sell your labor and service or you can make good use of your free time. That means what you do at odd moments is quite essential to have extra income or nothing.
People who are working at offices experience both ups and downs even though they are not as dangerous as some professions. For most of the people, a day at the office can be mentally and physically draining. The good news is that most of the companies have realized this fact and they have taken necessary measures to make the offices a better place for the employees to work. Purchasing reclining office chairs is one such measure that has been taken by offices that are located
Helping Ourr Children In Crisis Divorce...illness...violence. Crisis and hardship are no respecters of age. They shatter even the world of children and shake their security to the core. Consider this pattern to offer comfort, encouragement, and healing to children in crisis: Communicate It is crucial for a child facing hurt or loss to receive compassionate honesty from adult caregivers. False hope and empty reassurance may make initial reactions easier to bear, but will lead to distrust and delay acceptance of the reality of their situation. Connect
As per Encyclopedia Britannica a report given by United Nationâs Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO in 1980 says 172.582 billion dollars the world over are blown up in designing war based technology and weapons. This forms 7.25% of the worldâs total income. Further every year 119 million dollar are used for education. This is 5% of the worldâs income. For health 5.83 billion dollars are used and is 2.5% of the worldâs income. In 1970 different
No doubt you have noticed the wonderful people, projects and programs rising into consciousness to help us deal with these challenging times. Over just the past year in America, Eckhart Tolle’s visions of A New Earth seeded spiritual awakening in millions of people watching “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Former Vice-President Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for his tireless work on the causes of and solutions to global warming, and now a brilliant young U.S. president, Barack Ob
In todayâs modern times a new branch of science has emerged called âFuturologyâ or science of the future. This branch of science after analyzing and gauging contemporary situations infer what shall happen in future. It is true that on the basis of present times at least a little bit of future events can be predicted. If a person today is involved in vile tasks we may infer that his future shall be bad and yet this inference may prove to be wrong. If in time he/she recti
With quotes and positive messages dressing the walls of our homes, info-graphics filling the internet and Kindness revolutions popping up everywhere around the globe I wonder; Is it just me or has the world gone feel-good crazy! Break out the champagne! Finally, we have come to the understanding that if we want to create peace and bring happiness into our lives, and in the world, we need to start from within ourselves. We have advanced to a new stage in our evolution where, a
The Grace of Spirit Life unfolds in such miraculous ways! It embraces such vast polarity with many unexpected ironies along the way. Each and every one of us is witness to this mysterious phenomenon. We just know it is true from day to day and throughout our lives. The impact is oftentimes instantaneous, yet at other times appears to be cumulative. What I have chosen to write about is something that truly cannot be captured or defined by our chosen language of words. Neverthe
Liberation. It’s a word that often gets tossed out as the goal of yoga or the goal of meditation. Liberation. Though it sounds enchanting and is delightful on the tongue, it can seem so unattainable and so intimidating that some turn away from liberation as a real goal, or don’t give it much thought. You go to a yoga class, enjoy the practice and leave behind the real promise and goal of yoga. Maybe you believe that you don’t have it in you to do what you think is required. Or maybe, you think that even if you tried, liberation is probably not yours, not in this lifetime.
It is true that everyone is happy when he or she has money to spend. It is true that everyone likes shopping. However, when you want to talk about paying off debt or loan, nobody is happy. You would see an unhappy face. You would see people who do not like to talk about it or are used to it.
From Deepak Chopra and Gotham Chopra nnWe have been close friends with Laura Ling and her family for over a decade. So when we heard almost 3 weeks ago that Laura and her colleague Euna Lee, while reporting on a story on the North Korean-Chinese border, were arrested by North Korean officials, we were naturally alarmed. For days we communicated with the Ling family, various officials within the media and the Government, and voraciously read all press accounts to glean whateve
“A 'good job' can be both practically attractive while still not good enough to devote your entire life to.” - Alain de Botton In this busy society, you would hardly find time for yourself. You would find that you have less and less time for your family and friends. You would have less sleep at night. You get tired easily and wish that you have another you to help you. You want this. You want that. However, it is not the way it works.
Ryan hanged himself in a family bathroom after sharing his awkward personal story to a newly found pretty and popular friend – the news took everyone’s breath away. She turned out to be a bully, made Ryan think that she likes him and he started sharing his personal stories with her. He later found out that the girl and her friends were making fun of his awkward stories and copy pasting them on AOL Instant Messenger. Rumors about Ryan was spread that he was gay. Poor him, he t
When I was a little girl, I never went abroad. Regarding foreign countries, all I knew was from history and geography classes. I did not know anything about the Mediterranean diet at all until I went to my first Italian pizza restaurant. I just felt that the food was delicious and there were a lot of kinds of vegetables and fruits and soft drinks. That was all I knew about it. Until now, I grow older and have some research and find out that the Mediterranean diet is really good for health. Get to know more about the Mediterranean Diet
Modern science has its own glory and progress has its own importance. One can never oppose the utility value and requirement of both these. Despite this itâs true benefits accrue only when both are used for wholesome creative goals of the world. Energy used for destruction always proves to be harmful. The more one possesses power and capability the more one can use it either for destruction or neo creation and development. This is the Era of Progress. Talent in the arena of
Ten Signs that you are Living WellrnBy T. Z. Tyler When someone greets you with the question âHow are you doing?â and you respond with âI am wellâ do you really mean it? Do you know what it really means to be âwellâ?rnWellness is defined as the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought after goal (a lifestyle that promotes wellness). Knowing what you know now, do you mean it when you say âI am well!â? Do you consider yourself to
It seems clear that the question of torture won't go away. It would be easier to talk about moving ahead. Images of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo belong in nightmares. As a physician, my personal nightmare is of the doctors who stood by during torture sessions to monitor the victim's vital signs. This was supposed to be humane, but what about the Hippocratic oath, which says that a doctor shall do no harm? Is making sure that waterboarding doesn't cause a heart attack doing no ha
I am an Australian and am passionate about all global events - both current and historical. Today I discovered this most poignant fact, and after just reading "The Audacity of Hope", I would love to share with all Americans, without any political agenda:nnMartin Luther King, Jnr made his famous “I Had a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC on 28 August 1963. nnDemocratic presumptive nominee, Barack Obama, will make his acceptance spe

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may” is perhaps my favorite line of Robert Herrick’s poem, To Virgins, to Make Much of Time. Remember this poem? Maybe you’ve never heard it. Maybe you have and you’ve forgotten it.r
Meditation is a great feeling which brings peace and relaxation to your mind. Many people who want to meditate look for information on how to do meditation. There are various benefits of meditation. Unless you feel it yourself you will not be able to understand the sheer bliss of the experience. Some of the popular benefits of meditation include improved concentration which enhances your performance, more inner strength and ability to overcome most of the minor problems and g
I happen to enjoy foggy days every once in a while. There’s a sense of the world turning inward, veiling itself so that only the most immediate can be seen. It’s a different perspective than my usual wish to stretch the eye as far as it can see to find out what’s over the next horizon. In the last few days, when the weather has been more rain and fog than sun, I’ve been thinking about the play of Consciousness --- well the real truth is I spend a good bit of my time thinking about the play of Consciousness.
You have heard of Anti-Inflammatory Diet very often from TV show or magazine. However, most of us do have any clue about it. What is Anti-Inflammatory Diet? Why should you eat it? Do you really have to eat it? How should you eat it right? Many question marks would jump out of your head. First of all, you have to know what “Inflammatory” means so as to know why we need Anti-Inflammatory Diet. Inflammation: Immune System Process
It is never too late to start to know how to manage your income and expenses and take full responsibilities for it. Most people including you and me have limited resources. That is why economics often emphasizes “trade-off.” Your income is usually fixed and has so many things you would like to buy or so many places you would like to go. Some people might say that they want to eat all delicious food or buy all the beautiful clothes in the whole world. Every day you would struggle about it. If you buy this, you cannot buy that. It does happen very often.
The desire to know and recognize God, Truth, to experience that sweet space of Oneness is thought by some philosophers to be the root of all desire, the one desire. It may be that the desire disguises itself, showing up as a wish for a new car, or a particular job. Perhaps it shows up as some wanting for a girlfriend, a boyfriend, a relationship. However it comes to us, there is desire.
“What the hell; you are what you are, and self honesty occupies a definite and vital part in the ever-growing process to become a real human being and not a plastic one.” ~Bruce Lee
I will be travelling to Europe with my father in a few weeks. We both love to travel and it will be a trip that revisits places very dear to both of us. My dad is now 82 and traveling together is a precious and, like everything else, time-limited. These sorts of events get me thinking about a lot of different things but the prospect of this trip has got me thinking about one question in particular, what is the most loving act?
“Come out of the circle of time, and into the circle of love.” ~ Rumi As this month draws to a close, I’m sitting cozy in my office, three large dogs sacked out on the floor around me, while sheets of ice fall from the sky. This is by no means a typical winter day in east Tennessee. I’m finishing up the final touches on my “plan” for the year — all the while knowing that God is laughing.
After getting married and having a baby, you would find that you have less and less time for yourself. You would have less romance with your husband. You would have less sleep at night. If you have a little fairy to help you or have a magic wand, you can make everything work all by itself. Isn’t that great? I believe that’s all we want. Things can be done automatically. However, it is not the way it works in the real world.
If you are one of the millions of consumers that flip through channels until they get to the news every morning or night, chances are that over the past few year you have been hearing about nationwide education budget cuts. There have been debates that weigh out the pros and cons of these budget cuts covering topics like the affect that this will have on children and the governmental and monetary strength of the United States. However, the bottom line is that because of the f
Many people will say that hard drugs such as cocaine and heroin are not good for you. On the other hand, many people say that marijuana is not the same as the other drugs. They agree that using the drug helps a person become more relaxed while expanding the mind. Medical cannabis is the type of marijuana that is usually prescribed by doctors to their patients. However, the use of marijuana as medicine has been restricted by production and other government regulations. Cannabi
Through reviews of her lovely books, I have become email friends with one of our national treasures, Ruth Gendler. Part of the service she performs for humanity is in our schools. She brings her artistry into classrooms and inspires the talents and imaginations of our youth who, in my opinion, sorely need it.nnOne of Ruthâs delicious books is called The Book of Qualities . It inspires me and it inspires her work in the schools. Children write what Ruth calls, âQualities.â
I was recently asked by a friend of mine, Ramona Rice of DeStress Express to share my thoughts about beauty. What a great contemplation! In this day and age with so much focus on exte al beauty, I have loved thinking about what I find beautiful and when I’ve seen beauty. For me, beauty boils down to one quality, ease of being.
Living in a modern, convenient and fast-paced society is such a challenge to have a healthy diet. About food, you have various kinds of options such as fresh food, half-made food, and ready-to-eat microwave food. When you are busy or you do not want to cook because you do not have time to go shopping, what would you eat for lunch or dinner? The fastest way I believe would be fast food like McDonald or Kentucky. Most of the time, they are made up of carbohydrates, sugar, and calories with less nutrition, less vegetable, and fruit.
In 2003, after President George W. Bush and his henchmen led us into an ill-advised, immoral, and illegal war in Iraq, I wrote a piece about how we can each make a difference even in dark and challenging times. Merely substitute âDonald Trumpâ for âGeorge Bushâ and âISISâ for âOsama bin Laden,â and my essay is highly relevant today. Around three decades ago I traveled from Tennessee to Washington, D.C. to join a protest against the war in Vietnam. My housing h
When I separated, in 2015, I bought this house from a man living alone who had to sell his house because he did not have the money to pay for it. He had not been able to do all the renovations he would have liked. rnCurrently, this house was for me a place of peace and a sign of renewal. All hopes were possible, and life remained to come; this was the beginning of a new life. It was two years ago. I worked from home, in the digital and print media, and it was up to me to make
