May 19, 1780 was an unexplainably “Dark Day” in the northeaster U.S. (Google Dark Day or May 19, 1780). May 19, 1980, the 200th anniversary, was a dark day after Mt St Helens put ash in the sky over 3 states. May 19, 2000 was the full moon of a solar system alignment when “Mercury, Venus, ...

I love my job, I am my own bossr By Mack Thomas The American dream has had its third paradigm shift in modern history. At the turn of the century, the American dream was to just become an American, considering that most people were born in other countries. In the 1950’s through the early 1980's shifted to owning a home.
Have you ever noticed that there is a logo printed on every business card and website? A logo is a clear mark which helps customers in associating it with a particular logo. The business or company logo becomes a part of their corporate culture. It is very interesting if you can become a part of their visual landmarks. Plansr Even if you do not have a graphic designing background you can still be trained and refine your skills to become a logo designer. You can buy software t
Lost in Translation Byr Bill Cottringer Hagar the Horrible was giving worldly advice to his your Viking son. He says, “The secret of happiness is be content with what you got,” …so, he continues, “get enough.” ~Dik Browne.
Common Sense Or Good Sense? Byr Bill Cottringer “Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.”— Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
DO OR DIE Byr Bill Cottringer “Conflicts give rise to villains, heroes, victims and bystanders. Which are you willing to be, in doing or dying for? ~The Author.
It is a dream of many to get in to the civil service. One needs to prepare well for the exams. Once a person passes these exams, success is sure shot. Civil service exams are given by individuals who want to become civil servants, i.e. work for the government. It is very important to pass the exams in order to get a job in local, state and federal level. The syllabus is not that vast, but one needs to know all the facts and figures required. One of the most preferred career o
“I have an everyday religion that works for me. Love yourself first, and everything else falls into line.” – Lucile Ball It’s been said that most people fear public speaking more than death. I always found that a little strange but it’s starting to make sense. That’s because it’s also been said the number one fear we all have is the fear of rejection. We’re afraid the world will somehow look down on us as inadequate.
Networks and relationships will take you beyond where your salary (money), schooling (education) or smartness (intelligence) have taken you. Greatness is built through deliberate relationship formations (networking). The bigger your network, the greater your reach. Networks are made of mutually beneficial relationships where it is not about you benefiting but others benefiting from your existence and established networks.
Three Questions to Answer in Measuring the Success of Your Relationship Byr Bill Cottringer “Don't marry the person you think you can live with; marry only the individual you think you can't live without.” ~James Dobson.
“The Truth About Success That Most Of Us Need To Know.” Byr Bill Cottringer “To succeed in life you need two things: Ignorance and confidence.” ~Mark Twain.
Dig Deep My friend Susan became a kind of surrogate mother to a young woman called Kate. When she about 4 years old, Kate’s natural mother died tragically. Susan helped Kate in all ways possible. She was there for her throughout and Kate loved her as much as she loved her own mother. For almost twenty years they had a close and caring friendship. When Susan died suddenly, Kate experienced losing a second mother and her emotion was just like what she experienced when she lost her natural mother.
The unending desire for power and control over our own lives often puts us into a ‘catch-22’ as we try to work it out while sharing in the lives of others. One great thing about children is their innocence. They don’t have this huge filter screening out right and wrong. If ...
Operate In ‘I’m Okay’ Mode No matter what has happened so far in your life – you are essentially fine. Find a picture of yourself as a young child. If you can’t find a picture, imagine yourself about 10 years old. Now, write that child a letter outlining the perfect life he or she is going to enjoy. Do not limit this child in any way. Write as if everything is possible. Do not allow your present day physical, mental, emotional or financial challenges to influence the perfect picture you paint for this child.
Co-workers who are troublemakers can be a problem for anyone, but shy people may have particular trouble with difficult fellow employees. Shy people often find themselves to be judged more harshly than extroverts on the job. Dr. Jonathan Cheek has found that underemployment, uneasy work relationships and slower advancement tend to mark the careers of shy people.
It’s been 4 days since we said goodbye to the King of Pop - or as some would now call him, “The Greatest Artist that Ever Lived.” Some were shocked by the news, most saddened and some don’t care at all. Whatever your personal opinion of Michael Jackson, there is no denying the massive price this person paid for having so much success in his life. And along with that success came the high price of pain. For many, it is inconceivable that someone famous, wealthy or in the perfect relationship could have anything but joy in their life.
The Most Difficult Thing About Managing Others Is… Byr Bill Cottringer “Mis-management of others is usually a symptom of mismanaging yourself.” ~An older, wiser, unnamed manager of sorts.
Life is full of so many losses--Major losses brought about by fighting, divorce or separation, getting laid off, becoming ill, or dying. Then there are the minor losses, such as loss of a budding friendship, loss of a material object, even loss of hair. (Some may think this is a major loss, I suppose, in the age of Rogaine....) It's easy to get caught up in our suffering and let ourselves succumb to negative victim thinking.
I recently attended the funeral of a young man I'd known for all of his life. As with most funerals, it was a somber experience marked by the outward display of sadness. Funeral services can be as formal or as informal as the family allows them to be. This particular funeral service was very informal. Family members, friends, and coworkers were allowed to speak in remembrance of the deceased. This is where this article found its inspiration. Each person took the podium with a sense of awkwardness and obligation.
Growing Your Knowing Byr Bill Cottringer “A huge part of life is to live, learn and leave a legacy of that living and learning.” ~The author. To be able to leave this legacy of living and learning, you have to successfully navigate a roadmap of four levels of learning so you know what it is you have to do to bump up your knowing growing to the next level. All these four levels really help you answer this basic question better as you go: How do I know that what I think I know is really so, (for sure)? Clue: Never.
THE TAO OF NEW INFORMATION AGE TIME MANAGEMENT Byr Bill Cottringer “The challenge today is to catch up to the shift between the manufacturing age goal of squeezing a penny out of a nickel to the new information age goal of squeezing a nickel out of a penny.” ~The author.
You are as strong as the confessions and statements you say out loud or within you’re the confines of your own mind. There are common statements which our human nature naturally gravitates towards at the expense of progress and tasks at hand. Sometimes these statements are said spontaneously, without even thinking or winking. When you say something to yourself long enough, you begin to believe it totally. When you believe something, your actions and decisions are directly affected and ultimately real character is formed. Your statements you say to yourself are sometimes called affirmations.
Every parent wants their child to be successful in school and in their adult life and in this article I will outline a few specific areas in which we must address if we want to help equip our children for success. The first major area we must focus our attention is… physical health. We can spend all day long identifying the reasons for poor health in our society though I would rather discuss some solutions for the problem.
The Soul’s Revenge Of The Mind’s Excesses Byr Bill Cottringer “Everything in excess is opposed to nature.” ~Hippocrates. What is the real goal of self-growth? After 4+ decades of practical research into the self-growth movement, I have come to a tentative conclusion about this question: The basic purpose of the self-growth process is to reconcile the mind’s wants with the soul’s needs. And the only way this can be done is through the very creative process than runs the universe.
A New Year’s Resolution Worth Considering Byr Bill Cottringer Normally, I am not one for making or suggesting good New Year’s resolutions, maybe because I have seen too many short-lived ones dissolving after just a few weeks. However, I am going to make an exception to my own rule this year and make a resolution myself that I intend to keep. And, it might be a template you can use to make your own resolution which will undoubtedly be a lot easier to keep, than promising to lose 50 pounds, cutting out smoking and drinking altogether, or making your first million bucks. Here goes:
“P” Point Photography: Seven Success Sources Byr Bill Cottringer “Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.” ~Dorothea Lange Learning the art of good photography offers valuable life lessons that can bring success in other endeavors. Here are seven wisdom lessons I have learned with my photography passion that can be useful in doing just about anything and especially so in meeting life’s most difficult challenges: PRIORITIES
"People seldom hit what they do not aim at." â Henry David Thoreau, 19th century American naturalist, poet, and essayist Goals are precise and measurable objectives with exact time frames and targets. Goals are short-term steps toward our long-term vision. Goals are specific points along our journey to higher performance. They could be organization or team improvement objectives such as targets for cycle time, customer satisfaction, error or defect rates, new products or se
Managing vs. Coaching byr Bill Cottringer “You must always be the apprentice, even when you become the master.”rn ~ Christopher Cumby.
We can all be successful if we practice principles of success. To become successful, one has to be committed to personal growth and development, and willing to perfect practices that lead to a successful outcome. Like any other habit, developing traits that lead to success, requires commitment, consistency and persistence. While traveling, I ate lunch in a busy airport restaurant, where I met a waitress I will call PAULA. This waitress was phenomenal. While I was thinking ab
Have you ever wondered what your life’s purpose is? Have you ever become frustrated with your current lot in life and said… there’s got to be more to life than this? Have you ever just stopped and asked yourself… why are so many people around me living lives of happiness, fulfillment, and contentment… not to mention having the abundance to truly enjoy life? Well… the truth is we all have at some point in our lives had these thoughts and frustrations.
Before I hop into this article, I think I should clarify something: What does financial independence mean to you? In a sense, it's sort of a "buzz word" that bankers and financial planners endeavoring to earn commissions off of your investments throw around, as if working with them is your best shot at achieving it. Many people would say, "well RC, duh, it means 'being able to live without needing to work, and still pay for what you want'". I don't think that's all it means.
While I might concede that the spoils of life don't always go to the most deserving. I hold true to the belief that without a doubt the "spoils" are always more enjoyed when one has lived a life with integrity and not sold out on the things they value most. I have known men and women who have ...
We live in a world of judgment. When we talk about judgment it’s not just judgment of other people but also judgment of ourselves, sometimes even the harsh judgment of ourselves. An example of this was brought home to me profoundly on a course I attended some time ago. We were asked to say a few words at the introduction phase about what brought us there and what we wanted to do. We had all just met for the first time and knew nothing about each other.
Change happens. And while we can't control much of the world changing around us, we can control how we respond. We can choose to anticipate and embrace changes, or resist them. Resisting change is like trying to push water upstream. Generally we're quick to point to others who resist change. It's much harder to recognize or admit to our own change resistance. Some people call change "progress" and celebrate the improvements that it brings. Others curse those same changes and
Uncommon Sense for Work & Play Byr Bill Cottringer “Success and happiness are a result of using uncommon sense, while failure and unhappiness are the consequence of using everything else.” ~The author. Success and happiness in life are most often tied to your efforts in reaching a healthy balance between the two primary aspects of life—work and play. How is your balance in these two main areas of living?
Every country and culture appreciates gratitude for good deeds, yet today we have grown so busy that we neglect to show appreciation. Although we all learned those warm words of thank you as a child, our world is filled technological advances that have replaced the simple and kind “thank you” with a cold impersonal text message saying “thx.” Do we truly take enough time to show gratitude to those who we love, or have we become too busy to even say “thank you?” If we want to
Birth of The Terrible Twins Within (Our Dualistic Minds) Byr Bill Cottringer “If we never experience the chill of a dark winter, it is very unlikely that we will ever cherish the warmth of a bright summer’s day. Nothing stimulates our appetite for the simple joys of life more than the starvation caused by sadness or desperation. In order to complete our amazing life journey successfully, it is vital that we turn each and every dark tear into a pearl of wisdom, and find the blessing in every curse.” ~Anthon St. Maarten, Divine Living: The Essential Guide to Your True Destiny. What to Do?r
Success is no longer defined in financial terms alone. It’s beginning to be understood as an alignment between life and livelihood, between monetary gain and an abundance of joy, vitality and good relationships. While it’s undoubtedly important to reach professional benchmarks and ...
Loss is natural, even inevitable, as we discussed in Part 1 of this article. But why does loss have to be so hard? And what can we do to make it just a bit easier? How do we deal with grief? With loss? Even with grief about loss? Here are some suggestions: * Accept your feelings, particularly of grief, and know that they will pass eventually, even if you want to wallow in them. It is a natural progression, so let it take place. You will be okay... not right away, but eventually. You can't spend the rest of your life wandering around your house hugging yourself and crying.
I once worked with an executive who stated with certitude that his family was his number one priority. He also lamented the fact that he spent virtually no time with his wife and kids. I responded that priorities are defined by how and where we spend our time and that, by definition, his family was not his number one priority. During the next month, develop a list of your needs, wants and values. âWhatâs the difference?â you ask. A need is something you must have in ord
The Problems a Divided Mind Causesr By Bill Cottringer “I have realized that the past and future are real illusions, that they exist in the present, which is what there is and all there is.” ~Alan Watts.
I learned a lot from my father, Fred Trump. I learned about competence and efficiency. One of the best pieces of advice he ever gave me was his favorite formula for success. I call it Fred Trumpâs Four-Step Formula for Getting Things Done. The four steps are: "Get in, get it done, get it done right, and get out."nnIn looking back, I realize I also learned this formula by watching him in action. That's how he operated, and it worked.nnLet's break this formula down:nn Get in.
Find something you feel passionately about - Ok, I'll readily admit that on the surface this seems like a no-brainer. Yet it never ceases to amaze me by how many people I talk with that feel as though they're just going through the motions with regards to the events in their lives (both business ...
The one who gave birth to this author Mrs. Dainah Mapuranga (nee Mabaya Madoro), never attended Business School neither did she attend formal primary school education because of the culture which discouraged fathers from investing in the girl child as “she would be soon taken away anyway on getting married”. I remember her making an attempt to attend Adult Education classes where she learned basic reading and writing. That is how far she went but the intelligence of that woman was unfortunately never given a chance to manifest.
Life. Can we understand life by merely expressing its dictionary definition? Can we state that life is a state of being or the presence of vital signs, respiration, heartbeat, brain activity? Is that unalienable right to life that is endowed by our Creator and guaranteed by The Declaration of Independence and The United States Constitution simply the right to breath, to have a heartbeat and to have the presence of brain activity? Life, as it is expressed in our Declaration of Independence is much more profound.
SEVEN COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS Byr Bill Cottringer “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” ~George Be ard Shaw. Communication, like time, is one of our most important resources, but is becoming less cost-effective in usage by the minute, given the current information overload . It is helpful to understand the main obstacles to good communication, so that we can use this important resource in a more cost-effective way. Here are seven formidable obstacles to the communication process, to which we all fall prey: LANGUAGE DIFFERENCESr
“To send the common people to war untrained is to throw them away.” – Confucius With the economy in such a state, it’s hard to know who to listen to, especially when it comes to something as important as managing your money. And yet now seems like the perfect time to take advantage of so many opportunities. A great place to start would be Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing by Robert Kiyosaki. In it, he suggests suggest the following: 1. Build a team.
SUCCESS IS A BELIEF SYSTEMnBy Bill Cottringe n“Success is what you get from doing what you are doing to get it.” ~ The author. By now most of us realize we have moved into total overload—too much to know and do and too little time to get it all done. One special area of overload with ...
Did you know that the self-help industry has been going strong for more than 80 years? From the earliest years people like Napoleon Hill, Clement Stone, Dale Carnegie and Norman V. Peale have been exhorting us to set goals, read their literature, adopt their prescriptions for success and otherwise lift ourselves by our own bootstraps. It is hard to say how many successful entrepreneurs would not have gotten their start without the encouragement of these masters of the busines
Ebooks can be an enormous help in business. But, for most people, the value of using ebooks is just beginning to be appreciated. MY TECHNIQUE: The technique that I developed is to carry an e-library. Now, wherever I go, I have dozens of very high quality ebooks that keep me informed about my work. I need a lot of reference material, so my library works out well for me. I travel, so some of my ebooks provide information about the cities I visit. I already know a lot about my destination when I arrive.
