Each and every one of us has the potential to be the successful person we admire, read about or see on our TV screens if that is what we really want or that is to be our journey. Have no doubt about it, you can be the superstar you want to be, but just keep reminding your Self to take ownership of what you want. The world teaches us about limitation and far too often the limitation becomes the essence of who we are. By believing in a non-limited Self, you take away the barriers to truth. You learned from the earliest of ages that two and two is four and that rules are always set in stone.

I once met an executive who proudly described his approach to recognizing employees' work as "management by exception." "If you haven't heard from me, that's a good sign," he explained. "That means I think you're doing just fine. I only deal with the exceptions. I look for problems and people that need correcting. Those are what I jump on." This is one of three common approaches I see managers take in recognizing people. Unfortunately, variations on management by exception are also the leading causes of the demoralization and fear rampant in many organizations.

What do you need to do to achieve your dream? How do you reach something so far away from your current condition? In order to achieve your dreams you must break down your vision into achievable milestones and goals. This is a method that has been taught for many years, but is only half the battle. Not only must you create a system of measurable progression through the completion of goals and tasks, but you must also prioritize that which you choose to complete.

She sat on the floor amongst a pile of papers and cried. Everywhere she looked, something needed to be done. Bills were stacked, envelopes strewn about, unopened cards and grocery receipts cluttered the room. All she needed was a good filing system – how hard could that be? Every day, smart people get caught in the “it should be so easy why can’t I do it” trap. Spending hours on a task or project that is not in your core strengths can make you feel frustrated, which in turn makes you feel dumb, which in turn blows your self-confidence.

What’s the quickest way to build rapport with someone? Use their name when speaking to them. As simple as it may sound, it's a task that often gets undermined by forgetfulness. Why people forget names is the subject of much discussion, why they have difficulty remembering them is another. The truth is that most people are preoccupied with their own thoughts, judgments, insecurities, self-perceptions, and self-interests to free up the mental space that's necessary to have a name stick. Add to that the conce with remembering a person's name, and it's almost certain to be forgotten.
