In all media outlets such as the newspaper, on TV news, and the internet we are seeing headlines such as these that follows: Childhood obesity is on the rise, adult obesity is a serious epidemic, try this pill or this fad diet, and get more exercise. What is going on in our society? Well could there be a correlation between what we are eating that is causing this obesity epidemic? Dr Russell Blaylock seems to think so, in fact he has been warning the public for well over 10 years about this and other health conditions related to what is in our food. His book Excitotoxins ‘The Taste that kills’ was published in 1994. The correlation of MSG is too hard to deny any longer. There is much science to back this up. MSG you say, most think of MSG as a thing of the past. We all know Chinese food was notorious for adding MSG to its food for many years. We are now all familiar seeing signs in their storefronts stating that they no longer add MSG to their food. Some might think MSG must be outdated. Well guess what MSG is not a thing of the past it is in most foods on the market that come in a can or a box. Most of these names would never give an indication of MSG at all. Our Chinese takeouts might not be adding MSG to the food but maybe unknown to them there sauces if not homemade most probably contain some type of MSG.
What is MSG? How is it disguised from even those of us who do read the labels? MSG is an excitotoxin which means it overexcites your cells to the point of damage, acting as a poison. MSG is literally hidden in food labels under names such as broth, casein, hydrolyzed, autolyzed, gelatin, malted barley, rice syrup, yeast extract, and more making it very difficult to identify.
MSG is in 100’s of foods, even in baby formula. It is especially common in soups and salad dressings. A lot of the vegetarian foods, or so-called health foods, use yeast extracts. Soy extracts which is from soybeans, naturally, have one of the highest glutamate levels of any of the plant products. When you hydrolyze it, you release the glutamate, such as with the soy protein isolates.
How do these ingredients contribute to our obesity epidemic? Scientists have known that MSG causes obesity since the 1960’s. It helps to produce visceral fat, which is the most dangerous type of fat that surrounds your organs. The discovery that there are numerous glutamate receptors in all organs and tissues including the GI tract, from the esophagus to the colon, the entire electrical conducting system of a heart, the lungs, the ovaries, all the productive systems and sperm itself, adrenal glands, bones and even the pancreas are all controlled by glutamate receptors. They act and operate exactly like the glutamate receptors in the brain. So, when you're consuming MSG, you get very high glutamate levels in the blood after eating a meal containing MSG. You are stimulating all of the glutamate receptors. What was found in MSG-exposed animals is that they prefer carbohydrates and sugars over protein-rich foods. That was one of the characteristics of this type of obesity caused by MSG consumption. It's very difficult to exercise the weight off and almost impossible to diet it off. The appetite is out of control, but the metabolism is also out of control. They have metabolic syndrome on top of obesity, which makes it impossible to lose weight.

What can you do to safe guard you and your family from these toxic chemicals? Of course being diligent on reading the ingredient list of all foods you consume. But are you aware that even if we are careful with reading labels that not everything in that product is even listed. The food industry does not have to list an ingredient if it is less then 3% of the total ingredients nor does it have to list ingredients it uses during manufacturing. Consume only fresh whole foods that are picked vine-ripened and grown organically without any gene mutation or chemicals. There are a lot of healthy whole foods, vitamins, and natural spices that act as glutamate receptor blockers, which would help to add to your diet such as silymarin, curcumin, and ginkgo biloba. Curcumin is very potent. Most of your flavonoids reduce excitotoxicity. Magnesium is particularly important; its natural function significantly reduces toxicity. Vitamin E succinate is powerful at inhibiting excitotoxicity, as are all of your antioxidants. Combinations of B vitamins also block excitotoxicity. The true way to avoid MSG and other things you do not wish to consume is to eat the way Nature intended for you to eat.
