So you have an infection and your doctor prescribed an antibiotic or two. Now you're faithfully taking your medication because you want to get better. Of course. But did you know, your diet could be silently sabotaging you? You could be unknowing feeding and empowering bacteria, yeast and mold.

Here are a few facts I want you to keep in mind when it comes to bacteria and antibiotics:

~Folks with Crohn's Disease have totally unbalanced gut bacteria. This ranges from a higher than normal population of E.Coli, sulfur loving bacteria, and a bacteria called mycobacterium avium Paratuberculosis (MAP) found in pasteurized milk.
~Kids who have taken antibiotics are more likely to develop asthma.
~It has been proposed that early exposure to mold may cause Type 1 Diabetes.
~Cystic Fibrosis patients naturally harbor respiratory bacteria.
~Unbalanced gut bacteria destroys the immune system.

We all know antibiotics disturb good bacteria and when taken in excess or improperly, they promote the growth of the ever dreaded "super bugs" - bacteria that have grown to be resistant to antibiotics.
There's a really good chance YOU are those bad bacteria's best friend - here's why:

~Processed food feeds sulfur loving bacteria.
~Bacteria love sugar and grains...I mean they REALLY love them.
~Pasteurized milk contains dangerous microbes and promotes bacterial imbalances.
~Processed oils from vegetables (canola, soy, cottonseed) weaken delicate tissues of the gut and lungs.

Here are dietary changes that could change your life, no I'm serious, they really make a difference:
1. Stop eating packaged and processed food.
2. Reduce and eliminate grains and especially sugar, even natural sugars like honey.
3. Drink raw milk. It can profoundly heal the inflammation of IBD. Raw milk is unpasteurized & not homogenized.
4. Add inflammation reducing Omega-3s to your diet.
5. Replace vegetable oils & margarine with bacteria busting coconut oil and nutrient rich butter.
5. Eat fermented foods like home made kefir, yogurt, fermented vegetables like sauerkraut, pickles, kimchee, miso & olives...all must be unpasteurized (the high heat of pasteurization kills good bacteria)
6. Raw garlic is a pretty powerful antibiotic.
7. Take a high quality pro-biotic supplement.

And last but not least...relax and breathe deep. I mean really look into deep breathing exercises. Not only does oxygenation reduce body pH (bacteria love acid too) it also works to reduce stress and depression.
