Every piece of food that we consume has an affect on our bodies. To maintain a healthy body and achieve or maintain an ideal weight, it is necessary to eat healthy foods. There are many diets currently on the market. Each one claims to be the best for your health or for weight loss. Everyone has their own preference when it comes to choosing which diet to employee. There are pros and cons for every diet. Some are actually fairly well balanced, while others are quite dangerous. If you want to be healthier overall or are looking to lose weight, it is better to alter your overall lifestyle. To do this, you will need to gain as much information as possible about the things you prefer to eat. Beef is an excellent example. Generally speaking, beef is considered to be an unhealthy option. However, there are ways to continue eating the foods you love, including beef. Here, you will find a great deal of information that you will be able to use to keep beef in your diet without having to be concerned about the dietary ramifications.

First, let's talk cut. As you know, beef comes in a variety of different cuts. Some of these cuts are automatically more lean than others. Each cut has a specific name, but sometimes you will see the same words popping up on multiple cuts. When you want something lean, there are three words you should be looking for. This includes "loin", "round", and "sirloin". While is is alright to splurge on other cuts every once in a while, it is best to stick with options that include one of those three words. Also, be sure to stay away from anything processed. This includes beef jerky, hot dogs, and deli sliced meat. Also, always look at the lean to fat ratio. Most pre prepared packages of beef have two numbers on the label. They will say either "lean" or "fat". These numbers refer to the fat to lean mean ratio of that particular beef. There are many different ratios available. Of course, the higher the lean percentage and the lower the fat percentage, the healthier it is. When you are trying to eat a healthy diet, it is best to stick to a high percentage of lean. Specifically, it is best to use beef with a lean percentage in the nineties. If you find beef such 96 lean ground beef, that is the ideal. Beef with a lean ratio of ninety-six gets a checkmark for being heart healthy as certified by the American Heart Association.

Another consideration when purchasing your beef is the source. It is important to look for beef that clean, so to speak. This means that the cows from which the meat was sourced were not fed antibiotics or hormones. The cow's diet is also important. It is not always possible to get this information, but there are some excellent companies that always have this information available. Look for the highest quality beef that you can find.

While on the subject of cuts, you must also consider the portion size and how much fat is on the cut. A healthy portion of beef is between two and three ounces. This is much smaller than what most people consider a portion of beef. Some people compare a healthy portion size of steak to the size of a deck of cards. There are several other analogies that can be used, simply use a deck of cards to get an idea of the ideal size and then find the analogy that works best for you. As for the amount of fat present, all you have to do is look at the meat in the package. It is generally obvious where the fat meets the actual meat. It is best to get a piece that does not have a great deal of fat. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to avoid this. Thankfully, there are other ways to deal with this. For starters, you can easily trim a great deal of the fat away from the meat before cooking it. It may not be possible to remove it all, but you can remove quite  a bit. A fair amount of whatever remains will be cooked off. You can then pour this out so that it does not soak back into the meat.

Speaking of cooking, the way you prepare your beef can have an exponential effect on how healthy it is to eat. There are an exorbitant amount of ways to prepare beef. First, consider the ingredients that you will need to use with each method of cooking. Among all of the different options, baking and broiling provide the healthiest meals. You can also consider roasting or stewing. The way you cook beef can either reduce the bad things such as fat content or it can

boost them. Back to the ingredients, regardless of how you cook the beef, the ingredients that you add can change everything. Vegetables are often the best choices of add ons to your dinner. Various greens, carrots, green beans, tomatoes, and squash are all excellent choices. Among others, of course. You can have bread or a potato with your beef, but you should not have both together. Nor should your portions be very large or have a great deal of additives. This includes butter, sour cream, and other similar options.

Choosing your beef is an enormous part of making your beef centric meal healthier. The other major consideration is how you prepare it and what you pair with it. Overall, it is best to keep your beef intake lower than other types of foods, but that does not mean taking it out entirely. You do not have to deprive yourself of beef to have a healthy diet. When you do fix beef, consider broiling some steaks or browning some extra lean ground beef and making lettuce wraps. Whatever you decide to make, make it delicious. You deserve to be healthy and happy.
