Discipline is a major key to success. It is the ability to do what needs to be done at the appropriat time in order to accomplish your desired goals.

Taking the First Step
My friend Wally, who is 72 years old, runs three miles every weekday morning and has done so for 35 years. He is in excellent health and looks like he is 55 years old. I asked him how he manages to get up every weekday morning and go out to run no matter what the weather. Wally answered simply, "I put my running shoes on." I'd say that's the first step as well as the perfect metaphor for starting and then following through on any goal.

To be disciplined, you must consistently take the first step toward whatever it is that you want to achieve. Make a decision to do something and then to follow through until you achieve your goal.

What do you need too do to make your dreams come true? First, you must decide what it is that you want. Be specific; set a goal and devise a plan to achieve it. Then as my friend Wally says, "Put on your running shoes!" Simply take the first step. After that, take another..and another.
