A number of years back Donald Trump and his group was building the Hudson Project in New York City along the Hudson River.

Trump and his team had a business plan which detailed all of the specifics that were involved in this project. He would meet with his team on a regular basis to oversee how the project was progressing.

During these meetings something very surprising (and somewhat shocking) was taking place.

Trump instructed his team to find out anything that could possibly go wrong and interfere with his plan. Why was he doing this? Why was Trump taking what seemed like a negative approach on such a large project?

Before I get to that here’s something that may sound familiar to you.

I’m sure you've heard many times to just be positive and think positive thoughts. Along with this you've probably been told to get rid of any negative thinking because it will interfere with the amount of success and financial wealth you can achieve in your life.

And perhaps you've also been told to think three to five times more positive thoughts than negative thoughts otherwise you’re likely to fail.

In fact you may have heard this as it relates to any area of your life as well.

But what about your financial success? Or about your ability to achieve financial freedom?

Have you noticed that the more you try and get rid of those negative thoughts…that they keep coming back. And sometimes even more than before?

While this may sound like a good strategy to live and run your life by, is it holding you back without you even realizing it? Is positive thinking limiting your financial success?

Now let’s come back to Donald Trump and what this all has to do with you.

Trump specifically hired people to find out everything that could have gone wrong with the Hudson Project and had them come up with contingency plans. Their job was to come up with back-up (contingency) plans on every possible thing that could go wrong so they’d be able to go to “plan B” or “plan C” if those things occurred.

Instead of using “positive thinking” only, Trump was using both positive and negative thinking, which in reality is balanced thinking. It is the positive thinking plus balanced thinking, in the sense of the contingency plans that gets results.

This is very important and can be the difference between success and failure in your finances…or any other area of your life for that matter.

And this is just one of the top three ways that you can use negative thinking to achieve greater levels of financial success…and ultimately financial freedom.

Now there are some people out there who will say things such as, “I don’t want to put that out there” or “I don’t want to put out that negative energy.” This is very common among people in the New Age Movement and in certain areas of personal development and self help.

Many times people think that this is being negative and it certainly is not. It is being balanced, which is how the Universe operates and this certainly applies to your finances and any area of your life as well.

What it comes down to is this:

You must think both positive and negative and be clear about your objective(s), know the pros and cons, come up with contingency plans for each one, and as a result you increase the outcomes of what you want to achieve.

Whether you have your own business or you’re working for someone at this time, it is wise to come up with back up (contingency) plans and be prepared for the negative outcomes just as much as you would for the positive ones.

One of the best ways you can do this regarding your finances is to have an emergency savings account set up…and make sure this is separate from your regular savings account.

Many times people will save money and “cut into” their primary savings. Don’t do this.

Have that “rainy day” account but make sure it is just for the emergencies or the negative situations that come up.

As strange as it sounds…

When you are prepared for the negative outcomes by using negative thinking, you actually increase the probability of achieving the type of long term positive success you want in your finances and any other area of life that’s most important to you.
