Has personal responsibility for self and taking control of your life taken a backseat to victimhood and blaming others? Feng Shui is all about taking responsibility for self and creating the life you want, not the life others think you should live or tell you to think.

Feng Shui principles are about creating balance and harmony in your life and surroundings so they can support you in accomplishing your objectives and dreams. Feng Shui provides the focus necessary to help you stop complaining and deal with an issue so you can change the results and achieve your objectives.

Richard Bach, author of Jonathon Livingston Seagull said, “If it's never our fault, we can't take responsibility for it. If we can't take responsibility for it, we'll always be its victim.” Being a victim is no fun and definitely does not provide a roadmap to a bright and prosperous future.

Brian Tracy, author and motivational speaker further states, “You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.”

The good news is that you can eliminate the victimhood mentality and change your results by changing your attitude and thinking. This shifts the focus of energy surrounding you and the issues you face or objectives you wish to accomplish.

Feng Shui Principles to Help You Improve Focus

Observation and reflection are your two best tools when trying to understand what is behind constantly missed opportunities, too many “bad days” or choices that leave you feeling like a victim. Determining whether it is an issue that you should and can change is a big step. Not all issues can be changed - or should be changed – or are in your control to change. Knowing the difference is critical.

For example in today’s economy, you can’t personally change the economy. But you can change your attitude about the economy and how you respond to the negative news. You can choose whether you will let the constant barrage of bad financial news get you down or whether you will make the wisest choices available to you under the circumstances and do what is best for you.

Are you questioning whether you are stuck? Do you have a nagging feeling that you might be creating your own bad luck? People who are stuck in a rut often don’t realize they are and often dig themselves deeper. Look at your life as an outsider – see what keeps happening to you like a revolving door. Once you’ve observed firsthand what issue(s) you are a constantly repeating in your life – then, and only then, can you do something about it.

“Simply put, you believe that things or people make you unhappy, but this is not accurate. You make yourself unhappy,” said Wayne Dyer, author, lecturer and self-help advocate. The choice is yours: focus on regaining control and accomplishing your objectives or remain a victim and blame others.

Chart Your Course

Feng Shui principles mandate creating balance in your life in order to maintain focus and be successful no matter what your objectives are.

Is Your Life Balanced? Determining if your life is balanced is as simple as observing the opposites in your life such as black and white or dark and light. Balance could mean getting enough sleep so you are not tired when awake and can be focused on your objectives and take care of yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually during the day. Balance could also mean you watch too much television which is solved by limiting the amount of time spent watching television and using electronic devices so you can read, think and stay connected with your family and personal relationships.

Evaluate your life to see if you have too many negative people, time-draining events or financially-draining expenses that are keeping you from finding better opportunities. If you spend your time complaining about everybody and everything else making you feel like a victim, you have little or no time to focus on your objectives. Eliminate those things that are no longer working for you or encouraging you to achieve and focus on your objectives.

Make clear objectives. Use a yellow tablet and draw a line down the middle. Name the column on the left “Missed Goals and Dreams” and the column on the right “Focused Objectives.” List everything you’ve ever wanted to do, be or get involved with or are currently involved with on the left. Across from each item in the right column determine if that item should even be in your life and is part of your core objectives. Eliminate any items that do not fit into the balanced lifestyle objectives you want to create.

Once you have eliminated everything that is not consistent with your core values and objectives, rank the remaining items in order of importance. Item number one is where you should put 75 percent of your focus. The other 25% should be spent on personal relationships and taking care of yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually.

If your past habits were to focus on negative thoughts and be a victim then you will have to create new habits of focus and success in accomplishing your objectives. You must change your old habits or they will control you. Your yellow tablet is your roadmap to focused objectives.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.” - Aristotle
