Sometimes you look at a person and think: “After all, an intelligent person. And he behaves like a nerd. Why?" Because the mind is different.
WHAT KINDS OF MIND ARE THERE?
First-order mind: erudition. Erudition is the mastery of fact in its broadest aspect. They say about the polymath that he is a walking encyclopedia. Surprisingly, such know-it-alls are often thrown into the trash of life and eke out a miserable existence, because they do not know how to dispose of their essentially useless knowledge. At the same time, a polymath can be a real fool. And all because knowledge of historical dates, peculiarities of Italian etiquette or varieties of Chinese tea does not imply compulsory mastery of logic or basic sanity.
Second order mind: intelligence. An intellectual, unlike an erudite, may not know much, but he knows how to collect his knowledge into logical constructions, building a multidimensional reasoning with complex models and multi-step forecasts. It is a pity that such a property of the mind often does not translate into something more than idle picking at the nose. Therefore, they say about such intellectuals that they are nerdy clever people and periodically beat them.
Third order mind: wisdom. A wise person does not have to be either an erudite or an intellectual. His thinking can be simple and uncomplicated, but it will determine his actions, adequate to the current moment. Unlike the intellectual, the sage never thinks in bare abstractions. He always keeps in touch with reality and knows how to link thinking and behavior into a single construct. Therefore, where the smart will shine with his mind and eventually get hit on the neck, the wise will remain silent, but will do everything in his own way.
Erudition, intelligence and wisdom can exist independently of each other, but they can also manifest themselves in one person, creating a true genius.
PROBLEMS DUE TO MIND
And now a story from life. One of my acquaintances refused to help my second acquaintance only because he did not share his political views. A person who has done this is not only not an idiot, but, of course, may reasonably consider himself an intellectual. And this is exactly the case when the intellect turns into cleverness, and cleverness begins to overshadow decency.
There are people of different political and religious views among my acquaintances. I perfectly find common language with believers in God, atheists, communists, nationalists, feminists, traditionalists, alcohol drinkers, teetotalers, hooligans, marginalized, law-abiding, commoners, policemen and just normal people. What has to do with the latter - in the first place. And, perhaps, this is the main thing in a relationship - adequacy. And you can stick a label on yourself or on someone else. But what does it mean, what does any ideological spirit mean, if the bearer of these ideas is a rotten person? Therefore, I think this way: no matter how smart you are, but if for the sake of abstract ideas you are ready to step over the simple human, then it turns out that you are not a smart guy, but just a fool with inflated conceit.
My name is Rudiyr. I was born and live in Russia. I am engaged in giving advice to people on mental health, self-improvement and harmonious development. I am also the author of the course "Philosophy of Practical Natural Science". In it, I consider issues of health, positive energy balance of a person, energy sources for a person (sleep, nutrition, physical activity, creativity) and other aspects that allow a person to live happily.
