Pilonidal Sinus is a cyst or infection that forms in the top cleft of the buttocks. It may develop due to irritation to ingrown hairs.

Causes of Pilonidal Sinus

• Common in males.
• A sedentary lifestyle which includes sitting for long period of time.
• Thick and curly hairs near the buttocks.
• Any previous injury in that area.
Obesity.
Family history of pilonidal sinus.
• Deep cleft between the buttocks.

Symptoms of Pilonidal Sinus

• Pain or swelling in the tailbone area.
• Yellowish pus-like discharge from the infected area.
• Some of the physical activities such as riding a bicycle or doing sit-ups may be uncomfortable.
• Fever.

Laser Treatment for Pilonidal Sinus

Laser Pilonidalplasty (LPP)

This procedure is done using Leonardo laser. During the procedure, local anesthesia is given and then a small cut is made. Then all the pus is discharged or drained out. In the end, the sinus tract is sealed with a laser fiber.

• Day care procedure and patient can start his normal work routine from next day of surgery.
• Wound healing takes 6-8 weeks and thus recovery is much faster as compared to other procedures.
