We often talk about the importance of embracing and adjusting to change as well as learning to be open to new ideas and to recognize new opportunities. However, there also can be many challenging obstacles for us to overcome in transforming ourselves and our lives. As much as it can be difficult to embark on a journey of change, it is equally challenging and important to find the strength to let go—of old habits, of old stories, of old things that we have gathered over the y

When I first heard of Michelle Obama’s new book  I thought the title was Becoming Michelle Obama . I assumed the book was about how she came into her own as a person and as a first lady. When I received the copy of the book, I immediately realized the book is called Becoming . Mrs. Obama makes it clear that she is always evolving and learning and that there is no final destination. She sums up the meaning of the title at the end of the book when she says: “For
As we begin to understand the differences in the male and female brain regarding our sexual desires and libidos, it feels important to examine the way we view monogamy in a long term sustainable relationship. Monogamy, as defined by wikipedia, is one + marriage; a form of marriage in which an individual has only one ...

It’s easy to find people who will critique your business and tell you how to run it. But no one actually explains the hard part: how to make money. I know many women entrepreneurs who, like me, tend to focus on the creative side of business, with a thousand new ideas racing in our brains, but we don’t want to always deal with routine tasks like accounting. But if you can focus on what aspect of your business makes you the most money right now, you’ll have CASH in the bank. With that comes the freedom to experiment, to grow your business in new directions and take it to the next level.
When Mahatma Gandhi gave us his philosophy of non-violence, or ahimsa, I believe he was preaching the highest form of self-love. Self-love not only means accepting myself the way I am, warts and all. It also means never tolerating anything - even from myself - that harms or disempowers me in ...
For the past few years, my personal mission has been to present my most authentic self to world each and every day. My authentic self is my most creative self, and yet, seemingly in contradiction to my mission, I chose a career in hospitality as an operations manager. After 25 years, I am now committed to the life of an entrepreneur, creating a business and life I love and helping others to do the same.
If you are like many women, you sometimes feel like exploding because everything in your life seems to pull on you at the same time. We're all on a seesaw trying to balance our emotions, our attitudes, our expectations. I hear from women all the time who say they feel overwhelmed, inadequate and out of balance as they struggle to keep up with career, family, relationships and social obligations. Then there’s financial uncertainty that bears down on many of us. It is a lot to deal with, and women everywhere are feeling it. Anxiety rates among women have soared in the last decade.
The road traveled can be a tough one. We all go through some pretty heaving things during our lives that can derail us. It’s happened to me several times, and no matter what is going wrong, if I can remember, even for a second, that life is made up of rhythms or phases that come and go, then I know I’ll get through it, just as I have before.
Gratitude is many things to many people. It is wonder; it is appreciation; it is looking at the bright side of things; it is abundance; it is thanking someone; it is “counting blessings.” It is savoring; it is not taking things for granted; it is present-oriented. The average person often associates gratitude with saying thank you for something they received or a kind gesture. However, gratitude is much broader. I invite you to consider its numerous benefits and how you can regularly incorporate the practice of gratitude in your life.
If you think the way youâve always thought, you will always get the same result of the thoughts youâve been thinking. Does that sound like a reasonable statement? Of course it does! But why should you be interested in the thoughts you think when it comes to creative and effective weight loss? Because we become what we think about most. Perhaps youâve heard of the Law of Attraction? Using this concept, you attract into your world that which you think about the most. And,
Her true power comes from unexpected places. By Beate Chelette What would you guess women said they wanted most in 2013? A recent survey suggests we’re seeing the rise of the alpha woman who chooses to be independent and aggressive when it comes to seeking out and getting what she wants. Such good news and among the findings: nearly half the women surveyedr
I have adopted a practice to embrace my human-ness. After I feel like I have "messed up" or "didn't say the right thing," I find a mirror and look right in my eyes. "I love you, I really really do," said WITH feeling. My body knows the place of self-hatred, and it knows the place of self-love. It is a fine line ...
Set a time limit for when you will put a stop to negative thoughts and allow yourself to flourish again. By Beate Chelette You will find that I like acronyms and tools. It’s easier to remember something if we can build a bridge in our minds. We are talking about K.A.R.L. which stands for Know, Accept, Relax, Live.
Personal transformation is not selfish. It is not egotistical or self-centered to want to be the best person you can be. It is when people feel “less than” that they feel the need to prove their point, strike out, cause strife, hurt people. Those feelings are, obviously, evidence of the amount of pain someone is in. But it’s not always that overt.
Ok, did I get your attention? What I mean is, have you ever considered that we might better succeed by NOT getting what we think we want? That sounds counter intuitive to all the counsel I give about thinking positively, dreaming our dreams and writing affirmations – ALL of which are hugely important. But, I believe there’s another lesson to be learned by all of us. And, it’s not just that Spirit works in mysterious ways (which is true). It’s that sometimes we don’t listen to our intuition, our inner knowing.
Continually focusing on what isn't only gives more power to it. The universe doesn't really have an opinion about what you want or don't want. It just listens to you. So, if you are telling the universe that the status quo is okay with you, it will listen. The universe doesn't pick and choose who gets what they want. It doesn't say, "Oh, you are a better person, therefore you get what you want, but you? You're not worthy." It simply listens to the messages you are sending out.
Are you ready to lead a life that is different than the one you are leading now? What will it take for you to stop doing what you’re doing and start living the life of your dreams? Most will agree, it takes you engaging your energy and committing to change. You can’t get different results doing the things you’ve always done, right? You have to make changes and you have to commit to making those changes. Simple.
How does gratitude work? What's the point of it? Will this new craze of daily gratitude be something that changes my life? If it did, what would it change, how would I be different? Isn't gratitude some kind of religious thing? Like meditation, gratitude has been sidelined with religious beliefs to be practiced once a week, if you attend some religious facility. However, is it really? I recovered a note from a friend from 1998: Thoughts for this week: Abundance:

Imagine the following scenario, if you will. One hour after you arrive at work, your phone rings. The Caller ID reads, “YOUR CHILD’S DAYCARE/SCHOOL”. You already know what this means…your child has a temperature, is sick, and needs to be picked up ASAP. You have back-to-back meetings and conference calls all afte oon. You try to reach your husband to see if he can pick up your child; however, you just remember that he is tied up in an all-day workshop for work. Alas, you are forced to cancel your work obligations for the third time this month.
When I look back at all the criticism and self inflicted guilt I put myself through when I had my first child at tender eighteen, all I could do is laugh and be grateful for those moments. Over the years of steep hills and unknown roads, I have discovered that one on my noblest missions in life was just that; to be a mother. I will never have all the right answers but I do have four wonderful grown up kids who are a faithful testimony of my own growing process as a mother, woman, and a better spiritual being. My children have taught me many lessons, not all have come to me the easy way.
When was the last time you hand wrote a thank you note? Recently I had the pleasure of writing quite a few of them, and in the process I had the thought that, like letter writing, the practice of writing thank you notes may be a dying art. Seriously, do any of you still own a copy of “Miss Manners”? And when was the last time you saw a child gifted with a copy of “White Gloves and Party Manners”?
A few days ago while standing in line at my local deli I watched a young boy reach for a roll of lifesavers and ask an older man who appeared to be his grandfather, “Can I get these? They help me with my wild!“ His words, “my wild” grabbed me. The older man noticing my fascination turned to me and asked, “What do you think? Will this help him with his wild?”

Let's face it. As women we give. We do (a lot), we feel, we work, we play (though not enough play!). Do you get tired from so much giving? What I see happening very often with some of my clients is that they get tired, and they feel taken advantage of. But they also get pissed. All these behaviors come from fear. One reaction to the fear is to hide, afraid to shine your light. Why hide your light? Well, either you feel your light will make others feel bad, or will push others away because you are stepping out of the role expected of you, or you are simply scared of owning your power.
When there has been abuse, sexual, physical, emotional and verbal it's tough to forgive, darn near impossible. I know because I've been in each of these situations, so I speak from my heart and soul, to yours, with love, respect and light. The abuser went to prison for his actions. Well that was a nice neat and tidy ...
Rewrite Your Script, set the Stage for a Successful Life, on your terms. Living the successful life is both attainable and sustainable by everyone, regardless of creed, race, or social status.r
Both are essential to running a successful business. Lots of talk these days about introverts and extroverts, generated by the bestselling book Quiet: The Power of the Introvert in a World That Can’t Stop Talking. Herself an introvert, author Susan Cain writes that introverts are “too often denigrated and frequently overlooked in a society that’s held in thrall to an extrovert Ideal--the belief that the ideal self is gregarious, alpha and comfortable in the spotlight.”
We all have our own stories. Have you ever heard yourself tell your personal story to someone else, almost as if you were talking about another person, like it was a script? You might have felt disconnected with the story (because you’ve told it so many times that even you’re bored with it). Or, you might tell it with a lot of emotion, feeling over and over again how you were abandoned as a child. Then it hurts again, right? Guess what...here’s a little tough love: It doesn’t have to.
“Don’t be distracted by criticism. Remember - the only taste of success some people get is to take a bite out of you.” - Zig Ziglar Here’s one thing I’m pretty sure of: I’m pretty sure you don’t want to know “How to Get Over Criticism.” I’ll bet you’d prefer a guide called: “How to Avoid Criticism and Ensure that Everybody Loves You Unequivocally til the Day You Die.” Unfortunately, the subtitle would be: “Or How to Have a Totally Boring Life.” Face it. When you play a b
And the top strategies to change that and get ahead. [Part One] By Beate Chelette As a career coach and longtime entrepreneur I have been able to watch how men and women work and advance (or not) in their careers. Here are some of the top reasons why women don’t get promoted at a higher rate and Part Two of this article offers strategies to change that: Getting sidetrackedrnr
With the upcoming launch of Happy Woman Happy World, the first book of The Women’s Code, my team is on red alert. Aside from all the excitement over the completion of the book, I find myself FREAKING OUT at all the things that are piling up on my to-do list. Frankly these days that list is longer that the veil on a wedding gown. I am not kidding!
It’s that time of year again. Spring is in the air and it’s time for your annual “spring cleaning.” It’s time to go through that junk drawer. You know which one I’m talking about-the drawer that you put everything that you’re not sure if you’re going to use it again, but you don’t want to throw it away-just in case. The one with the old twist ties, that single battery or those miscellaneous keys that surely go to something – you see where I’m going with this. If your junk drawer is like mine, you probably could dump the whole drawer in the garbage and not even miss anything in it.
If you are easily distracted, the one thing you need—focus—is not always easy to find. I call it a helicopter brain and maybe you experience the same thing. I have gotten so busy lately, and there are so many thoughts in my head, that I have to schedule absolutely everything so I don’t forget! Between coaching, editing my new book, event speaking, interviews, consulting and being the mom of an aspiring and talented young woman, I once again find myself wondering if I can actually get it all done.
Isn’t it the truth that we have these great ideas but somehow they get lost in the shuffle? As time goes by, these great ideas wane from our consciousness and soon they are forgotten. But let’s look a little deeper into how you can actualize those ideas. The Nike slogan “Just Do It” sums it up for most of us. Don’t you wish you could just do that all the time? Why is it that we tend to postpone our goals and get sidetracked? How good is your brilliant idea if you can’t just do it?
We’ve all been in that place, but the uncertainty can mean the beginning of an important transformation. The days start innocently enough. We wake up, a bit sleepier then usual, and we don’t really want to get out of bed. Wouldn’t it be nice if today were a Saturday or Sunday? And yet, at least for me, the last three weekends were filled with important work deadlines that couldn’t possibly wait. Then it comes, the day we come to hate. The day of doubt and fear.
Content marketing is expensive. Thatâs a reality that many business owners have faced after getting started with their content planning, producing, and promotion efforts. If you were to go through all of the costs associated with content marketing , it would quickly reach into the tens of thousands of dollars. For more advanced strategies, that number could be in the hundreds of thousands or even millions. Seeing those numbers for developing a blog that doesnât always off

The technology industry is majorly male-dominated, but there are some women that are making giant strides in the industry. These women have proven that they have what it takes to go head to head in a competitive industry and make innovative changes. They head teams, and they are disrupting the tech industry and doing what many people think a woman canât do. Without further ado, here are the top six women in technology in Africa. 1. Why we need to be more aware of our skills and how focusing on each other’s strengths leads to more efficient and productive teams. As I researched the issues at the heart of The Women’s Code, I looked at the reasons and the ways men and women lead differently. My goal was to show how the principles of The Women’s Code will improve communication and leadership in our workplaces. When both men and women apply the three pillars—Awareness, Support, and Collaboration—they become better leaders and are more equipped to quickly climb the corporate ladder.
Do you ever feel lost not knowing what it will take for you to become happy? It can happen suddenly, the realization that you have lost your joy. As women we seem to be busy with our lives, working, running errands, taking care of the family and then we wake up one morning and notice we aren't happy. It can feel like someone just suddenly hit the brakes in the car and we are slammed forward taking our breathe away. Or at least this is what it felt like for me.
Self-care is a critical part of living a fulfilled and happy life as a working mom! Unfortunately, however, most working moms often put everyone and everything else before their own needs and allow themselves to fall last on the list of priorities. In order for career-minded mama’s to successfully handle life's trials and tribulations, while being available and present to those they love, it is imperative that they make time for self-care. There is a reason that flight attendants state the following prior to take-off, “In case of a loss in air cabin pressure an oxygen mask will appear.
