An important distinction needs to be made in the increasingly powerful field called Collaborative Leadership. There is a critical difference between a collaboration that results from two or more people who aren't sufficiently separate as individuals and a collaboration between individuals who are sufficiently whole.

"This above all: To thine own self be true; and it must follow as the night the day, that thou canst not then be false to any man." - ShakespearennHave you ever known anyone who is seemingly doing well and expresses that there is something missing in for them in life? Even with a good job, a happy relationship and a good income, they just don't seem to be happy? Why is that?nnWhat I've learned is that many of these people are not living the 'who" they are meant to be. They ha
Our entire lives are progressive jou eys through stages of self-growth, in which we take continuous steps to evolve into more conscious creators of our own existence. On your personal jou ey, one of the greatest steps you can take is to learn the art of gratitude. Gratitude is one of the ...
"Just imagine how much you'd get done if you stopped actively sabotaging your own work. We must be talented, powerful and resilient creatures indeed given how much we manage to produce despite the constant undercutting, ridicule and needless censorship we aim at ourselves." Seth Godin 1. Poor Planning
We all want to change some aspect of our lives. We go through difficult circumstances and experiences that we want to overcome as soon as possible, since none of us like the suffering that goes with the difficulties, problems and obstacles that we face in our lives. Health problems, money, conflicting relationships, whatever experience we are going through is our responsibility to transform the experience to a different reality, positive, a reality of happiness and abundance.
Did you know that the symbol for crisis in the Chinese language also means opportunity?n nWhen I went to write this monthâs Monthly Visions I struggled for a few minutes, wondering how to approach the topic of this month in the most sensitive manner possible. I know many people are going through a hard time right now, yet I also know there is potential here for personal and global transformation unlike anything we have seen before. I think the opening sentence captures what
Anxiety! It has power. It has the power to stop you cold, in your tracks, as you freeze in your attempt to move forward in your life. Your anxiety gets in the way of you being, doing and having what you want in life. What is anxiety? The dictionary will tell you that anxiety is a sense of apprehension and fear either real or imagined, resulting from anticipation of a threatening event or situation. Often states of anxiety are marked by physical symptoms such as sweating, tension, and increased heart rate.
What is it about you that sets you apart from the masses of the population? Have you thought of doing something that is considered significant? Would you like to do something that will be considered significant? Creating something significant in your life is not just about being successful at what you do. It is also about making an impact and leaving something behind, long after you are gone. Please pay particular attention to the following question, and answer it from your heart: What would you like to be remembered for? Think about this question.

It often appears that the term “providing value” is labeled, put in a box and placed on a shelf, when value should truly be something that encompasses the entire room. I’ll elaborate. When we provide value, it should not be limited to the goods and/or services that we provide, but rather, it should be the way in which we approach our relationships, our career, our self-care, and life in general.
It is with enormous enthusiasm that I write the first newsletter of 2017. I am excited about welcoming the start of a new year and standing with you in a place of unlimited possibilities and the promise of creating an off-the-charts year! There is no time like the present for us all to declare and claim that "This is my year and it starts now!" Like many of you, I have spent the last few weeks taking time off, unplugging from my normal work schedule and day-to-day routine, an
We are celebrating the Spring Equinox once again. What a wonderful time of the year as nature bursts with new life, shedding the old and decayed that covered it through the winter months. Buds are opening and beautiful flowers spring forth with their fragrant beauty, dotting the landscape with ...
Most people associate vitality with endurance in the bedroom or staying young when we have reached old age.r
When using the Law of Attraction to attract your desires, your job is to “let it in”. Let what in? Abundance, well-being, source energy, joy, happiness, love. Etc. Letting it in is easy, remembering to practice this on a consistent basis is the difficult part because you’re so ...
We’ve been inundated with the word change for months with the rhetoric of the election campaigns. Most of us probably agree that our country needs to change many things in the way it operates as well as eliminate the massive corruption that has seeped into our government and its leaders. People ...
Let's get this out on the table being skinny does not mean one is healthy and neither is being fat, overweight or obese. Lately there has been a resurgence on the topic of being overweight and the health implications. Over the years, studies have linked various diseases to being overweight or obese. Yet somehow, another study comes out to contradict the reports on being overweight or obese suggesting that it is okay to be fat and healthy. These mixed messages can really confuse or create the perfect pass for those who are struggling to accept their excess weight.
Love:Strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties; attraction; affection felt by lovers; affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests; warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion; the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration; unselfish loyal and benevolent conce for the good of another: a god or personification of love For some time, I have thought about writing on the topic of love. It is a very important quality that can improve each of our lives.
Unless you aren’t human(I think most of us are), you encounter distractions from time to time that minimize your effectiveness in getting your work done. The internet is especially disruptive with email, messages, status updates, friend requests and more. Distractions also include your co-workers, family, and our own wandering minds. It seems that we dwindle our lives away five minutes at a time. The big question is how to conquer this tendency. How can you make use of the wonderful world of the Internet constructively without falling victim to its many distracting qualities?
A very happy new year to you! I hope that you really enjoyed the Christmas season with family and friends. Seeing that now things are getting back to the normal routine (people are going back to work, and children are preparing to go back to school), we must focus on what we can do to make the year ahead a productive and purposeful one. Now, I won’t give you the ‘stock standard’ advice about the new year – make a resolution, stick to it, and encourage others to stick to their resolutions.
So many people see themselves as entrepreneurs, so they look into various businesses they believe would help them to achieve this goal. They get into the business of their choice only to realize that the business they chose was not something they were really passionate about, but because they wanted to become their own boss, or gain personal freedom, they stuck it out.
The first time I saw Sassy Lewis, she was holding a nurse and two psychiatric attendants at bay with an upheld chair and a torrent of obscenity. She was 14 years old, very dark-skinned, a little chubby and short, but as intimidating as a wounded bear. It took a little fast talk and several minutes of listening for her to calm down. It was the beginning of a rich 6-month relationship. She really shouldn't have been on our adult unit, but the adolescent units at the state hospi
If you’ve never worked with an editor and you’re wondering things like what’s involved, how much it will cost, how long it will take, and other such aspects, here are some helpful facts for you to know. The more informed you are, the easier the editing process will be for you. First, it’s important that you understand what an editor can and should do for you and your manuscript, whether it’s fiction or non-fiction, which includes memoir.
Being confident in our own skin is important to our happiness. There are many causes for lack of confidence and low self-esteem, ranging from recurrent disapproval from adults in your formative years, being demeaned in front of others, and not to mention your own internal critic routinely chastising you. Basically, it is not possible to feel confident if you are always giving yourself a tough time by slating your abilities. Do not accept the negative commentaries from your in
Innovation can happen in a “Two-Degree Shift,” meaning the answer you seek could be right in your face… if you could only perceive it! Have you ever heard the old adage, “If it was a snake it would have bit me?” (meaning what you were looking for was right in front of you, but you did not see it). It is not just a matter of what you want; what you need to consider is “how” you are looking at: People, Situations, and Circumstances. Also, slow down and consider “why” you want what you want so that: * You can engage your heart – your source of passion and courage to persevere.r
Allow this to set the tone for your day. “Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn’t know that, so it goes on flying anyway.” -Mary Kay Ash Take a moment today & check in with yourself by reflecting on the following questions. 1. Are you allowing a limiting belief to inhibit you from doing something you REALLY want to do? If yes, WHY? 2. Are your voices of self-doubt preventing you from taking risks and following your heart? 3. What will it take for you to push through the fear, silence your nasty inner critic & prove yourself wrong?
By being blissfully ignorant about certain things in this world, you can greatly increase your success rate with the Law of Attraction and making it work for you. Illnesses can come and go in seconds instead of months. Depending on what you believe to be true, that is what you’ll ...
Psychic Vampire is a colorful phrase that really offers a clear visual of this experience. If you have not experienced an interaction of this kind, count yourself as fortunate. Most of us have however interacted with one, at one time or another. Even more alarming is the idea that we may actually have been the vampire in question unconsciously. Psychic vampires suck energy from us whether or not they mean to at the time. Ah, the light dawns, (no pun intended) do you perhaps
The power of mindset comes from focusing your attention on a certain thing in a particular way. By focusing on something you want, or for that matter something you don’t want, Law of Attraction brings what you are focused on to you. Although the more scientifically minded among us might argue that this cannot be proven, most of us will have had personal experience sufficient to think that there might be some truth to it. Examples of the Power of Mindset
In her new book, Own Your Life, 7 Essential Steps to Independence, author, speaker and lawyer Suzanne B. Quinn guides the reader through the seven essential steps to personal and financial security and independence. This article is an excerpt from her book, comprising one of the seven steps. “Finding your passion” seems to be a buzz phrase these days. You hear people being interviewed on the television or the radio about their business (whether it be authoring, acting, skydiving, or whatever) and they are excitedly describing what they do for a living.
In my last blog entry - http://csillamoffat.com/acceptance/12/ - I discussed a self-improvement concept called acceptance without realizing what I was doing. To me self-confidence, self-esteem, stress control, these are all buzz words used in self-improvement courses or programs. But acceptance?
According to many people and various surveys, public speaking is the number one fear in our society, even more than death. Why is this so? Many of those same people have no problem talking up a storm with a group around the conference table or at a party, but ask them to stand in front of a ...

Productivity and performance matter, and unde eath this is how we think. We load up on ‘what to do?’ but the deeper question is ‘how do we think about it?’. If we think that work and life are hard and that to be successful we have to feel pressure or stress, we are likely to dampen our level of productivity and performance. It takes more energy to push against ‘hard’ than to enjoy ‘easy’. This is about our perception—a subjective matter. You see, it is not so much what we do as it is the mindset we hold about what we do, and how we focus our brain as we do it.
In one of his recent articles, New York Times Best-Selling Author and Leadership Specialist, Dr Marshall Goldsmith spoke about feedback and feedforward. I have considered Dr Goldsmith to be a virtual mentor for the past 6 years. His articles are always insightful. On a personal note, he has been very helpful to me whenever we have been in contact. In that article, Dr Goldsmith mentioned that feedback is often necessary, while feedforward has to be forward-looking, positive, and non-judgmental.
Clarity is powerful and is a primary ingredient to performing at your best. It is poorly understood and generally not a feature of most people's strategies. Why? Because we are too busy being busy. We take pride in taking "massive action."
Your past experiences inform your way of life, thoughts, and feelings about every new situation you encounter. If you do not do the work to learn and grow from your painful experiences, you will keep experiencing unnecessary pain until you learn. Learning the lessons you need to discover are what make all your life experiences count. The following are ways to make your life experiences truly count:
“At any moment, you have a choice, that either leads you closer to your spirit or further away from it.” Thich Nhat Hahn Last summer my husband and I went away for our anniversary. We went to the White Mountains of New Hampshire for some camping and hiking. Mind you, my husband has hiked the Appalachian Trail and his idea of a hike is far different than my idea of a hike. He wanted to climb Moat Mountain, a two-mile climb with an elevation of 2800 feet. It was a ninety-degree day in August with about ninety percent humidity, otherwise a perfect day for a hike.
Leadership is evolving, and it needs to. A one-size-fits-all, cookie-cutter approach is no longer working, and for good reason. The immense change we are facing is requiring leaders to be authentic and vulnerable, which means “less fear,” not weak, and in touch with their own individual strengths and gaps. This requires courage, something I’ve also witnessed in the leadership of the Olympic athletes recently in London.
What is self love? Self love is the process of acknowledging, validating, honouring, and respecting yourself! So, why is self love important? The importance of self love can be traced back to the effects of nurturing yourself. When you nurture and support yourself, you are in a far better position to do the same thing for others in your life. It is basic human nature to support others. The early man lived in tribes where most things were done due to a collective effort! If you support yourself, you will get better at supporting others.
At the beginning of every year, so many people set “resolutions” for the year ahead, hoping to create some, or massive personal change. In a very insightful article by Ray Williams (published in Psychology Today), he mentioned that by the month of February, most people have started to backslide from their new year’s resolution. He also quotes Professor Timothy Pychyl, who says that resolutions are a form of "cultural procrastination." This may not surprise you, in western society, we could easily say that weight loss is the number one new year’s resolution.
Our leadership “true potential” is not realized simply by inspiring others or feeling inspired or just having more information. Knowledge is not really power until it is applied. Recognition or an “aha” are only nice, interesting tidbits until you muster up the courage to make the change. Courage is a funny thing; it does not mean the absence of fear. It is primarily an intention to feel fear, but to go ahead and proceed anyway. Understanding the source of FEAR—mostly Fictitious Evidence Affecting Reality in our brain—can help to alleviate it.
Is sharing information in a form smaller than a manuscript right up your alley? Here are some tips to help you easily get it going and into the marketplace. Decide on a topic. Successful e-books aim at a niche market that seeks specific information. The best combination is to know what you ...
The Power of a Decision. By Dennis Fisher. This first step on your road to success is to make a decision. A decision is a product of the mind that initiates a course of action. You have to make a definite, serious, specific, decision. You have to decide what is your personal goal. What do you aim to achieve? For example, let us presume that your objective happens to be a common goal of a great many people. You want to become enormously rich. Once again I wish to re-iterate
It’s O-dark early and the only thing worse than climbing out of bed is getting fired (and that’s debatable). Ever have one of those first morning thoughts and if yes, do you have them often? Well, do I have good news for you! This is how you can change that:
Are you waiting for the right time to start a business? If so, you might be waiting for a very long time… or worse… the tomorrow you’ve been waiting for, may never come! The problem is there are always things that crop up in life and keep us busy. Having said that, most of us are busy anyway so waiting for that perfect ‘break’ or quiet time usually doesn’t happen.
Dear High Achiever:nnIf itâs not already in your library, one of my favorite books â The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale â should be.nnItâs one of the influential books that helped me in the early stages of my quest to develop consistent positive thoughts, habits and core philosophies that I strive to live by today. I re-read it at least once a year and it always re-ignites my passion and mission of looking for the positive in any situation.nn Think
Ask someone to walk to the moon and you’ll hear, “Not realistic,” as a response. They wouldn’t have a problem giving that answer. Ask some people to be perfect and you can almost hear the inner and outer dialogue start — “You have no idea how hard I try to be just that.” This person might even ...

Halloween is this week. Many of us have spent days planning and putting together the perfect costume. I am always fascinated to see the trends in Halloween costumes since I view them as a commentary on what is relevant in today's society. This year, there is no question we will see all sorts of references to whatâs making headline news as well as fake news. There will be groups of people representing everything from Disney Princesses to the casts of Black Panther and Suicid
The only place to find true happiness is within yourself. The reason why there are so many unhappy people is because most people try to find happiness outside themselves and they never look within. Happiness is always with you and you can access it anytime – even if you are deeply depressed. However, if you keep looking in the wrong direction you simply won’t be able to feel and experience happiness in your life.
