The Art of Active ListeningnnThere is an old German proverb that says âNo man has learned to speak well until he has first learned to hold his tongue.â But many of us are so used to speaking with others throughout the course of a day, and so eager to get our opinions heard, that we tend to forget that there is an art, and a vitally important one at that, in active and constructive listening. Active listening is a skill that, if we use it wisely, can give us a distinct adv

The multitude of personal development programs available in the market is vast and overwhelming. How do we know which programs are right for us? Be Open-MindednnIt's easy to look at a program and discard it quickly. There are so many options available that we may tend to be too critical or unintentional

About a month ago I received an email from a friend which was a story about a Mountain Daffodil Garden. It was a lovely story and I happened to notice that it was in fact a real place called The Mountain Daffodil Garden in Running Springs, CA. I did a little research and found out it was about an hour from my house and was excited because it would be open in a few short weeks. I told my friend and everyone I knew that it was going to be open soon and we should make plans to g
The Why's in the Road. By Michael Levy nnEach day in our lives there are decisions to be made. Most are small but nevertheless can have significant impact on our happiness. We amble along and make the most of each situation we face as the result of our actions. But there will come a time when we come to a BIG fork in the road. A big Y. Do we turn left or right. Perhaps we have been laid off from a job we had for twenty years or more. Maybe we are confronting a divorce after t
Are you living the life of your dreams? Or are you like most women going through the day to day motions, day after day? Surprisingly many women are not living the life of their dreams. And itâs certainly not because they have no dreams or goals. Many women have low self esteem and have never had anyone to build the confidence in them that they needed as a child. Without someone on your side cheering you on and telling you to believe in yourself, itâs very easy to get disc
The Meaning of LifennSome people believe that I'm always a positive thinker. Well, I have "not-so-positive" thoughts just like anybody else. For example, on the date of the DECIDE anniversary show (an inspirational urban musical), I started having disempowering thoughts. I found out that we were unable to get the megaphone I was going to use to start my introduction out on the street. That didn't matter too much, since it started to rain like crazy! We couldn't have people st

This is a parable I wrote a few years ago with a student, Krysta Tabuchi. Iâm using it here to illustrate the journey of Vocal Power.nnLong ago, a wood carver named Matsugoro found himself gazing at The Tall One. Standing proud and almighty, this tree cast the longest shadow in the village. Because of its indomitable presence throughout hundreds of years, it became the hub of this village. With a sigh, he stared at it everyday while carting his wares to sell on the streets.
What has people feel empowered? What has people make things happen?nnChoice. We become conscious of the options that are available to us, we pick something, and then we act upon that choice.nnIt's simple, but it's not easy. Are you with me? In a search for happiness, many people look for it in other people and not within ourselves. Many people feel that things like money, a better job, better relationships..etc will make them happy. That means you have to trust, love, and care for yourself just as you do the people you consider to be close to you. nnFollowing are steps that you can incorporate into your life

Though not always apparent, we always have a choice about the direction we take in life. We choose whether we will have a positive or negative attitude. We choose with whom we will spend time. We choose what we will do to make a living. Though we may not always be happy with our choices, we always have a choice.nnYears ago my father did some work for Glen W. What are your dreams? nnAre you in a place in your life where part of it feels limited or exhausting? If so, it is the time for you to begin manifesting your dreams and desires. Especially in the western world millions of people of average intelligence and education started with nothing and were able to create successful lives. In terms of success, background and education are not deciding factors. Your ability to continuously focus your mind on positive thoughts, however, is the key factor for success. You’d think that after skiing for over 46 years I’d stop being afraid when I hit a rough spot. But no, skiing in Utah I noticed the old feeling loomed over me like a dense cloud when I hit some difficult terrain. Why I’d put up with this feeling for so long I can’t explain. My pattern was to try to ignore it and ski anyway, knowing it would go away once I got down the mountain. I guess I felt that getting down though in fear was an accomplishment ̵
Rule #1: Turn away when he looks at you. Rule #2: When he turns his head, it's your time to look at him. But whatever you do, never stare him in the eyes -- he'll think you're challenging him. And that's something you don't want to do! No, I'm not talking about dealing with a psychopath. I'm talking about having an everyday communication with a gorilla capable of tossing you into a tree. I was taught the techniques of proper gorilla communication during a trip to Africa 20
When I was fifteen, I was bored with my life. I no longer wanted to be the nice guy who was always polite and followed instructions. So, I decided to shake things up and changed my hair to look cool. I also bought a used leather jacket and started acting a little flippant. A few days later, my uncle Chick dropped by to pick up my father to go bowling. He noticed the different me and said, “I see you’re making some changes, Bobby. What’s great about feeling restless is that i

When negativity knocks at your door, do you recognize it and send it away? Or do you invite it in for dinner, or worse, to stay with you as long as it likes—possibly for your lifetime? First, be clear that being the manager of negativity in your life isn’t about the fact you have negative thoughts or feelings—you will. It isn’t about eliminating negative thoughts and feelings so you never experience them again—that’s not realistic.

Thought mastery is so important to an individual’s success in life. However, most people are not fully empowering themselves with this incredible edge because they are not ready to commit to the mental make over required to achieve this unbelievable wisdom known as thought mastery. People are afraid to make changes once they have become comfortable in their routines. “Patience is necessary, and one cannot reap immediately where one has sown.” ~ Soren Kierkegaard So many people equate successful leadership as the act of achieving results. Having patience can help you achieve results because it is the ability to tolerate frustration that can come about through having to wait or delay what you do.
“Integrity is not so much a value in itself; it is rather the value that guarantees all the other values. “ Anonymous Your core values govern the way you live and the way you respond to life. They govern the way you react to situations that present themselves. Your core values help to guide your decision making. They govern the way you react to your friends and to your non-friends. We are in harmony when we act in alignment with our core values. We can consciously act outside of our values. This brings on dissonance because our true values are still there at our core.

Fear is nothing more than a state of mind. YOU allow it to manifest into a concrete entity. How does this affect your actions and thoughts as you expand your horizons? Why does this stop you from moving towards your dreams/visions? Let’s take a closer look at this stealer of your dreams. "Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood." Marie Curie First and Foremost, I know you all understand that F.E.A.R. is nothing more tha False Evidence Appearing Real. So knowing this, why does fear have such an impact on you?
I have been talking a lot lately with women who are telling me that they are working hard, quite often achieving their goals, and yet still not feeling successful, accomplished, or good about what they are doing. A typical story goes like this: You decide that you want to accomplish a big project, for example, writing your book. You work on it for six months. You create your action plan, you meet all of your mini-goals or milestones, and you finally finish your book. You have a completed manuscript! And yet, you don't feel all that accomplished for putting the final edits on it.
Take a moment to ask yourself: What would be the best thing you could do for yourself, right now, given the incredibly uncertain and stressful times you are facing? What would best prepare you for whatever your life, the economy or other circumstances, might throw at you? If you watch, read or listen to the media today it’s bad news piled upon more bad news. As a result, most people are stressed and worried. Most people. Not all people.
“The only real valuable thing is intuition.” - Albert Einstein Everyone was born with the magical power of intuition. Intuition is a clear flow of information that is available to you that is aligned with your authenticity, highest path and purpose. Intuition is one of the most amazing resources at your disposal. Yet so many people don't tap into it let alone rely upon it.
Over the years, I have noticed that some of the most common, most painful, and most challenging blocks stem from thinking patterns. Often, it's not our outside circumstances, our luck, our families or our businesses that keep us stuck.
Speak with anyone today and they will tell you that having witnessed the world go through financial and many natural crisis, the ability to earn more money has become imperative for reasons of keeping up with the bills, security to back up an initial source of income, contributing to society at large and even giving back to those who are less fortunate or have been stricken by a natural disaster. I know that most people (including myself) will raise their hand up if an opportunity came about to earn more money.
